The man in black’s lines were rather funny, but his expression was stiff and his voice cold and harsh. Coupled with his burly figure and the gleaming silver pistol, there wasn’t the slightest hint of a joke. William Carter and Emily Foster, who stood not far away, both wore looks of astonishment, having no idea what the man in black intended to do. Even someone as relatively mature as William Carter didn’t know how to react.
Seeing this, the man in black didn’t say much more. He raised the silver Desert Eagle in his hand and aimed it at his own temple, then gave William Carter a cold smile. William Carter and Emily Foster were both dumbfounded at this seemingly familiar scene. Was this guy really going to imitate Fire Cloud Evil God?
“Bang…” The deafening gunshot burst from the muzzle. Standing so close, William Carter could even vaguely see a thin flash of fire spitting from the barrel. The man in black seemed unable to withstand the shock of the gunshot either, his head giving a slight jolt. Yet his right hand made no move at all, remaining relaxed at his side.
Seeing that it wasn’t the expected bullet-catching scene, both William Carter and Emily Foster felt a mix of disappointment and relief—thankfully, this world wasn’t quite so crazy and absurd. The man in black gave a disdainful snort, then slowly raised his right hand and plucked a fingernail-sized piece of copper from his bulging temple.
The man in black’s movements were slow and clear, and William Carter, standing nearby, saw the entire process of the copper piece being removed. That piece, embedded in the man’s temple, was clearly a flattened bullet, and during the whole process, the man in black shouldn’t have had any chance to pull a trick. The man in black slowly extended his palm toward William Carter, and in the golden sunlight, a flattened, fingernail-sized copper bullet sat quietly between his thick index and middle fingers.
William Carter’s gaze was involuntarily drawn to that tiny piece of copper. In his eyes, it was a bizarre existence that overturned all common sense and logic. William Carter stared at it with intense focus and seriousness. A little farther away, Emily Foster didn’t understand why William Carter was so out of sorts, and couldn’t help but take a few steps closer. When she saw the small copper piece between the man in black’s fingers, she too was stunned.
“Is this a bullet?” To call it a copper piece wasn’t quite accurate; to be precise, there was a bit of silvery gray wrapped inside the copper. Because of her distinguished background, Emily Foster recognized it as a rare steel-core armor-piercing round. These bullets have extremely strong penetration and are mostly used by rifles against light armor or distant targets. The fact that this man’s pistol was loaded with armor-piercing rounds was truly perverse.
Even more perverse was that he had actually taken a shot to the head and shrugged it off. If this wasn’t a magic trick, then this guy was like a Terminator T800 robot. Even though Emily Foster had seen her share of extraordinary people, she had never heard of such a master, and for a moment she just stared blankly at the flattened bullet.
“Hey, so, what do you think? Am I qualified to be your master?” After a long silence, the man in black chuckled and spoke. William Carter looked up in confusion and said, “Be my master?” What the man in black had just done completely shattered William Carter’s understanding of the world over the past eighteen years. Although he’d read all kinds of sci-fi and fantasy novels, when such an unbelievable scene unfolded before his eyes, the rational calm he prided himself on suddenly lost its footing in reality.
When something that overturns common sense happens, most people fall into a brief state of logical confusion. The more rational a person is, the harder it is to accept such a violation of reason. Although William Carter had been tormented by strange nightmares since childhood and had developed an incredibly strong will, this only made him doubt the reality of everything before him even more. William Carter felt his mind was a chaotic mess, and could only stare blankly at the man in black.
“This is a magic trick, right?” Emily Foster couldn’t help but ask. As if hearing some absurd joke, the man in black didn’t even bother to refute her, just curled his lip in disdain.
The man in black’s disdain seemed to provoke Emily Foster. She bit her rosy lip with her pearly white teeth, her beautiful eyes glaring at the man in black in defiance. “A Desert Eagle wouldn’t leave no shell casings. It must be a fake gun…” Hearing this, William Carter couldn’t help but react—she was right. He was so close that if a shell casing had popped out, he couldn’t possibly have missed it. Was this guy a fraud?
“Heh…” The man in black sneered. “With that little bit of knowledge, you’re just making a fool of yourself…” “Bang bang…” As he spoke, the man in black flicked his gun and fired a shot each at William Carter and Emily Foster. “Ah…” Not expecting the man in black to suddenly shoot at them, William Carter and Emily Foster both instinctively cried out and tried to dodge, but the man in black was so fast that by the time they reacted, he had already finished shooting.
Seeing the slightly frightened looks in William Carter and Emily Foster’s eyes, the man in black glanced at their feet and chuckled, “No need to be nervous, I was just testing the gun…” William Carter and Emily Foster looked down and saw that each of their lightweight running shoes now had a bullet hole.
The man in black’s shots were incredibly precise, hitting the arch of each person’s foot. So while their shoes now had holes, their feet weren’t harmed in the slightest—the bullets had just grazed their skin, and both of them could feel the burning sensation from the bullets’ high speed.
