Chapter 10

Samuel Bennett looked at the two people who were utterly entranced, feeling secretly pleased with himself. “This time, I directly used a hundred thousand points to comprehensively enhance William Carter’s physical attributes, especially to prevent him from dying unexpectedly. I focused on strengthening his heart, brain, lungs, and internal organs, raising William Carter’s survivability to an almost monstrous level. Unfortunately, after cross-dimensional transmission and my own transformation, half of the points are lost for nothing. Moreover, I used the power of the Blood God Soul Transference Spell to directly engrave the supreme Vajra King Technique into his sea of consciousness. I’ve certainly put enough effort into this backup plan. And, I also used the Blood God Bewitchment Technique to give that little girl enough suggestion. Heh, kid, I’ve even arranged your entire future for you—just enjoy it…”

“Bang, bang…” No one knew how much time had passed before William Carter was startled awake from a state of emptiness by the thunderous sound of gunfire.

Chapter 4: Power and Responsibility

The air was filled with hundreds of scents: the fresh fragrance of grass and trees, the subtle aroma of wildflowers, the earthy dampness from morning dew evaporating, the smoky dust of the city, and more. Now fully awake, William Carter could distinguish all these complex scents effortlessly, without even trying. Among them, the faint burnt smell of gunpowder and the increasingly strong scent of blood made William Carter sense the presence of death.

At the same moment, as William Carter’s thoughts turned, the vast majority of useless information was filtered out. The image of a frightened and panicked Emily Foster simultaneously appeared in William Carter’s mind. Although William Carter hadn’t turned around, he could easily pinpoint Emily Foster’s location and condition just by her breathing and heartbeat.

Because of her fear, Emily Foster’s breathing was rapid, her heart rate over 120, and her sweat glands were wide open, with her palms and back secreting large amounts of sweat. Mixed with her own subtle fragrance, it created a strange yet wonderful scent that made William Carter feel an irresistible urge to hold her in his arms and comfort her.

However, in the next instant, the utterly unnoticeable presence of Samuel Bennett made William Carter’s heart turn cold. No breathing, no heartbeat, no body temperature, no normal signs of life at all. Yet, a mass of blazing blood-red light, like a crimson sun, pulsed within him. Though the blood light was gentle and pure to the extreme, it radiated an endless aura of terror. Even with all six senses shut off, William Carter could not escape the shroud of that blood light.

William Carter knew he had truly become powerful, but the stronger he became, the more he realized how irresistible Samuel Bennett was. This terrible feeling made the sudden gain of great power seem much less wonderful.

William Carter slowly stood up, and as he turned, he saw Emily Foster staring blankly down the hillside, her face pale. Following her gaze, he saw two imperial police officers lying prone on the slope more than twenty meters away, large pools of blood spreading beneath them, glaringly bright in the sunlight. With a single glance, William Carter could tell the two were dead beyond any hope. Judging by the bullet holes in the backs of their black police vests, William Carter easily deduced the cause of death: gunshots to the heart.

Although Emily Foster was no stranger to the world, she was still a young girl. Seeing two police officers killed so casually, she couldn’t help but be shocked by the brutality of the scene. William Carter walked over to Emily Foster and said softly, “It’s all right.” Seeing the gentleness in William Carter’s eyes warmed Emily Foster’s heart, and she slowly unclenched her tightly held hands. After a moment’s hesitation, she set aside her shyness and reached out to grasp William Carter’s hand.

William Carter’s hand was cool and steady, and as Emily Foster held it, she seemed to draw a reassuring strength from it. The light gradually returned to her bright eyes, and her tense muscles and emotions relaxed. Feeling Emily Foster’s warm, soft, and slightly damp hand, William Carter couldn’t help but feel a flutter in his heart. Although this level of physical contact was nothing much, the meaning behind it was entirely different.

Even though he knew Emily Foster was only instinctively seeking support and companionship in a moment of danger, the joy in his heart was impossible to suppress. As for the two dead police officers, William Carter felt nothing at all. By nature, he was deep and cold, and in his dreams he had seen plenty of blood and gore, so the scene before him didn’t bother him in the slightest. And to have Emily Foster hold his hand—no matter if another twenty police officers died, William Carter wouldn’t even frown. As for his own safety, that went without saying. After all the trouble that person had gone through, there was no way he would kill him so easily.

Samuel Bennett watched coldly, gaining a deeper understanding of his convenient disciple’s character. “Able to remain calm in danger, unshaken by blood, though easily swayed by women—well, that’s a common flaw of youth. With a newly remade body, he might just accomplish something great. Pity I’ve already arranged his path…” Although Samuel Bennett felt a bit sentimental about William Carter’s fate, it didn’t affect his determination to carry out his plan.

With that, Samuel Bennett spoke: “Disciple, I’m leaving now. I originally came for this little girl, but since she’s your friend, I’ll let her go. The Vajra King Technique holds endless mysteries; you must practice diligently and never slack off. This is extremely important—do not take it lightly. When we meet again in the future, if your progress in the Vajra King Technique disappoints me, don’t blame your master for dealing with you harshly.”

Hearing Samuel Bennett say this, both William Carter and Emily Foster felt a wave of relief. Emily Foster had witnessed Samuel Bennett’s ruthless methods firsthand and was truly a bit afraid of him. Seeing that he was willing to let her go, it was as if a massive weight had been lifted from her heart, leaving her feeling indescribably light and happy.
