Chapter 9

But Ryan Bennett hadn’t expected that neither side seemed intent on fighting; with just a few words, the tense, sword-drawn atmosphere was completely defused! He couldn’t help but feel quite disappointed, but for now, all he could do was wait in silence.

When Logan mentioned having a drink, Gale also smiled and said:

“I know a bar with some great drinks. How about we go tomorrow night? My treat.”

Logan burst out laughing:

“It’s a deal, then.”

As he spoke, he raised his fist and gave a mock punch in this direction.

This fist-bump is a common gesture among Black people, and seemed quite ordinary.

But at the very instant Logan swung his fist, he suddenly opened his hand, and from his palm dropped something the size of a ping-pong ball. Before it even hit the ground, it exploded with a blinding flash!

A flashbang!

Ryan Bennett instantly felt a stabbing pain in his eyes, everything turning into a field of blinding white. Instinctively, he raised his hands to cover his eyes, but even so, tears streamed down uncontrollably.

That wasn’t the worst of it—at the same time Logan launched his attack, Gale, who had just been insisting on “treating everyone,” suddenly bent down and hurled the blue-and-white five-pointed star shield in his hand, which looked like a toy!

The moment the shield left his hand, it created the illusion that what was thrown wasn’t a shield at all, but a truck weighing thousands of pounds, roaring straight at them.

This small shield shot out like a level-twelve hurricane, the massive wind pressure pushing aside debris, corpses, wooden crates, and even vehicles on both sides!

But facing the oncoming shield, Logan grinned savagely, not dodging or retreating. Instead, he raised his hands and charged forward!

He slammed both hands down hard, pressing them onto the edge of the blue-and-white star shield. Instantly, a sizzling sound came from Logan’s hands, smoke rising, and the air filled with the pungent stench of burning flesh.

It was as if he were pressing down not on a shield, but on a red-hot steel ingot.

And that wasn’t all—Logan began to change at an incredible speed. Hair started growing all over his body, his skin turned green and rough, his bare muscles swelled rapidly, his jaw jutted out, and two fangs grew from his lower gums! His entire body expanded by more than half, transforming from a normal person into a giant over two meters tall in an instant!

This was Logan’s proud ability: Beast Transformation! Instantly activating the orc bloodline within, causing his combat power to surge!

However, even after completing his beast transformation, he still couldn’t withstand the immense force from the shield. Logan’s thick arms blocked the shield for less than a second before being knocked aside, his whole body shoved backward, and then the shield slammed solidly into his chest!

Half of Logan’s chest immediately caved in, blood spurted from his mouth, and his burly body was sent flying five or six meters, crashing heavily into the windshield of a Lincoln Navigator.

The windshield shattered with a crack, and the impact was so great that the vehicle was pushed back more than two meters, the tires leaving two half-meter-long black skid marks on the concrete dock. The air was filled with the smell of burning, and the car alarm immediately started blaring, “WOO WOO.”

After delivering this blow, the blue-and-white star shield rebounded, tracing an arc through the air before returning to Gale’s hand. But even though he’d landed a hit, Gale’s face looked grim, as a clear crack had appeared on the shield’s surface. It seemed that while this thing was powerful, using it came at a cost.

Thornton then immediately opened fire on Logan!

His gun was clearly modified, with tremendous recoil, requiring both hands to hold. After firing, his hands would jerk upward to absorb the force, but the gunshot itself wasn’t loud—its muffled boom seemed to shake your insides.

After being shot, Logan was knocked another half meter sideways off the car, rolling off the hood and taking a lot of glass shards with him.

The flashbang Logan had thrown seemed to have no effect on the other two at all. As the saying goes, one misstep leads to another, and this mistake undoubtedly cost Logan dearly.

Chapter 6: Frustration

The only good news was that after rolling off the hood, Logan ended up in a blind spot for shooting, so if Thornton wanted to finish him off, he’d have to change position.

However, after firing the first shot, Thornton was already on the move. He jogged a couple of steps, pressed his hand on the nearby railing, and leapt lightly into the air.

With that push and jump, he actually soared over a meter high, and while still airborne, he was already aiming his gun, ready to fire again as soon as he landed.
