William Carter, although wanting to show goodwill to 088, could not tolerate the other’s nonsense, especially delivered so rudely.
As the chief instructor of the underground base, William Carter held the power of life and death within the base.
Even if 088 had survived hellish training, in front of him, he was nothing more than an insignificant pawn. He had no right to act so presumptuously.
William Carter’s aged face darkened, his drooping, triangular old eyes fixed intently on 088.
088 wasn’t particularly capable, but he was one of the few clever people in the base. For 088 to act so brazenly, there had to be a reason.
William Carter was cunning and sly. Though he shouted loudly, inwardly he was calmly observing 088.
088 smiled slightly. “Unfazed by change, unangered by insult, deep and calm—teacher, your eighty years of cultivating composure are truly impressive. You’re a great example for your disciples.”
William Carter said nothing. The more arrogant 088 became, the more suspicious he felt.
088 was just a lowly level-three warrior—what gave him the confidence to challenge a level-seven expert like himself?
William Carter extended his sixth sense; there was no one else in the room, not even any sign of people outside.
Could there be a bomb hidden in the room? Did 088 want to die together with him?
William Carter felt that, given 088’s personality, he wouldn’t do something so extreme and desperate. Besides, 088 had no way to get his hands on a powerful bomb.
“Teacher must be wondering why I’d suddenly seek death and provoke you.”
William Carter’s puzzled yet cautious demeanor made 088 smile even more. “Teacher, I already told you. I was reborn, so I want to change my fate and live differently.”
“Oh? Where did you reincarnate from?”
At this, William Carter became even more composed. He ignored 088’s mockery and instead asked for details.
“I was reborn from a hundred years in the future. Strictly speaking, I’m even older than you, teacher.”
088 sighed as he spoke. “It’s a pity I couldn’t bring back all my great power. Tsk tsk…”
“Reborn from a hundred years in the future?”
A complex look flashed in William Carter’s old eyes. He wanted to seize 088 right now, but he also wanted to hear what other nonsense the other could come up with.
He asked, “088, what is it like a hundred years from now?”
“My name isn’t 088. That’s just a boring number you all gave me. My name is Henry Clark.”
Henry Clark corrected William Carter, then said unhurriedly, “A hundred years from now, countless races in the galaxy are at war, and humanity is on the verge of extinction. It’s all tears, really.”
Henry Clark then said with some relief, “Luckily, I was reborn and got to live again. No matter how bad things get, I get to live another hundred years. Fate has not treated me poorly.”
“I see…”
William Carter seemed about to ask something else, but suddenly spread his arms, source power erupting around him. His thin, aged body lunged like a hunting eagle, fiercely pouncing straight at Henry Clark.
Chapter Two: Godslayer
On Pegasus Star, source power cultivation is divided into ten levels. Reaching level seven already makes one a formidable expert.
Though William Carter was over eighty, with source power driving him, he instantly surpassed the limits of the human body.
His eagle-like lunge was even faster than a fired arrow.
William Carter wanted to capture him alive. He didn’t know what madness 088 was up to, but he had to get answers.
Just as William Carter pounced, Henry Clark sidestepped, narrowly avoiding the attack and retreating to the corner of the room.
The room was only a dozen or so square meters; with Henry Clark in the corner, there was nowhere left to retreat.
After landing, William Carter turned lightly but didn’t rush to attack again.
Though he hadn’t used his full strength in that lunge, with the other’s abilities, he shouldn’t have been able to dodge it.
William Carter knew these young people’s cultivation levels all too well.
Though they had all survived brutal hellish training, their true cultivation was only level three or four. The hell training was more about tempering their minds.
Of course, at seventeen or eighteen, level-three source power already counted as genius—enough to dominate their peers.
But compared to a level-seven expert like him, the gap was enormous.
Among the disciples in the base, Henry Clark ranked last. For Henry Clark to dodge his eagle strike was far beyond William Carter’s expectations.
Moreover, the source power fluctuations around Henry Clark were faint, clearly not exceeding level three. He had only managed to evade by anticipating in advance and making the best possible response.
There was no complex technique involved—judgment was key.
William Carter looked Henry Clark up and down. “Didn’t expect you had such skills. I really underestimated you before.”
Henry Clark shook his head slightly. “You didn’t underestimate me. It’s just that, having been reborn, my hundred years of insight and experience far surpass yours. Dodging that strike wasn’t hard.”
“I’m starting to believe you really were reborn. I’ll capture you and extract all the memories from your mind, to see what the next hundred years are really like!”
William Carter narrowed his old eyes and gave a sinister smile. Whether Henry Clark was telling the truth or not, as long as he caught him, he could find out everything.
Henry Clark also smiled. “Teacher, you’re still as decisive and ruthless as ever.”
He shook his head again. “Unfortunately, I’m destined to win this round today.”
William Carter didn’t know what Henry Clark was planning. His gaze sharpened, just as he was about to strike, Henry Clark raised his hand to signal, “Don’t rush. Teacher, put away your Green Silk Sword and your triple-edged flying dart for now, and don’t be so quick to unleash your Gale Source Power Technique.”
