Chapter 12

He was the kind of person with a naturally keen sense, always able to sense danger in advance.

It was precisely because of this talent that David Miller was able to become the chief person in charge of Beiyang Prefecture.

Although Beiyang Prefecture was vast and sparsely populated, and remained in a low-temperature environment all year round, it was still a large state with abundant resources of all kinds.

As the chief in charge of the Blood God Society here, David Miller lived quite comfortably.

The Beikun Base was a project assigned from above, originally intended to test the effects of using Ling Clan genes.

But after several years, the project leader in charge simply disappeared without a trace.

Yet, a huge amount of funds and resources had already been invested in Beikun Base, and David Miller was afraid that the higher-ups would investigate the outcome, so he could only keep the base running.

After more than ten years of hard work, only a few dozen young assassins had been trained.

To be honest, David Miller felt this business was a huge loss.

At least several billion had been invested in the entire Beikun Base—enough to hire a small fleet.

The young assassins had great potential for growth, but the cycle was just too long, and the returns were hard to guarantee.

Still, the assassins who had already been trained couldn’t be wasted.

As the person in charge, David Miller still had to find ways to squeeze value out of these people.

But he had absolutely no interest in dealing with the people at the base, so he left everything to William Carter to handle.

When the security captain, Vulture, brought people to see him, it struck him as a bit odd.

Vulture was supposed to report to William Carter; what was he doing coming to him over the chain of command?

David Miller didn’t mind meeting Vulture, but the unease in his heart made him feel very uncomfortable.

He hesitated for a moment and didn’t respond to Vulture, but instead contacted William Carter.

What surprised David Miller was that William Carter didn’t respond at all. He opened his virtual light screen on his personal terminal and searched for William Carter using his own permissions, but couldn’t locate William Carter.

David Miller felt even worse. What was going on?

He touched the black ring on the ring finger of his left hand. What danger could there be in this completely sealed base?

David Miller looked at Henry Clark on the virtual light screen, lost in thought.

He actually remembered this trainee, because the other was so handsome that anyone who saw him once would never forget.

Henry Clark had such a super high level of attractiveness—born to be a lady-killer.

But this kid was wearing sunglasses, and his eyes were closed. What was that about?

David Miller had done too many bad things and was especially vigilant. He sensed danger in advance again, noticed something was off in the details, and immediately became even more alert.

Even through the alloy door, the closed-eyed Henry Clark sensed the subtle change in David Miller’s state.

Six-Winged Celestial Cicada, number one in sensitivity.

With his eyes closed, Henry Clark’s perception as a Six-Winged Celestial Cicada became even sharper.

Seated in his chair, David Miller had already straightened his posture, his internal source power quickly gathering and circulating, and his face showed a bit more suspicion.

He was clearly in a state of high alert.

David Miller truly lived up to his role as the head of Beiyang Prefecture—exceptionally vigilant.

In fact, Henry Clark was very familiar with David Miller; in his previous life, he had followed David Miller for several years.

It was because David Miller forced him into servitude that he finally rebelled. In that very battle, Grace Hill died saving him.

By the timeline, this had happened seventy or eighty years ago.

Thinking of all this, Henry Clark felt as if it were a dream.

However, now that he had been reborn, he was determined to take control of his own fate and would never allow the tragedy of his previous life to happen again.

Since David Miller was already suspicious, there was no way they could sneak in easily anymore. Henry Clark knew he couldn’t stay silent, so he tilted his head slightly and said in a deep voice, “9673, open the door. I have urgent business with you.”

David Miller looked shocked. “Who are you?”

9673 was his secret code name in the Blood God Society, known only to his direct superiors in his own line.

Even William Carter couldn’t possibly know his code name. Henry Clark was just a lowly trainee—how could he know this secret code?

“No need to be nervous. I’m an observer for the Ling Clan Gene Screening Project, reporting directly to Dr. Samuel Harris. My organization sequence is 9031.”

Henry Clark calmly reported his Blood God Society sequence number and position.

Dr. Samuel Harris was the head of the Ling Clan Gene Project. It was precisely because something happened to Samuel Harris that the project was abandoned halfway.

All of this was top secret information—only David Miller in the entire base knew about it.

Having been reborn, Henry Clark knew everything about the base inside out, leaving David Miller completely bewildered.

After all, the Beikun underground base was a fully sealed facility; David Miller had no way to contact the outside directly.

Even if he suspected Henry Clark’s identity, David Miller had no way to verify it.

The Blood God Society had a strict hierarchy. The sequence number Henry Clark reported was ahead of David Miller’s.

Under normal circumstances, David Miller would have to obey Henry Clark’s orders.

Of course, in this sealed base, David Miller was still the boss. And being cunning and suspicious, he could easily choose not to obey orders.

After much deliberation, David Miller ultimately didn’t dare act rashly. He knew well how terrifying the organization was—he had to figure out the situation before making a decision.

With a beep, the alloy door slid smoothly open to both sides. The armed robots guarding the door also stepped back two paces, making way.

Grace Hill followed Henry Clark into the office. Hearing the alloy door slowly close behind her, she breathed a sigh of relief: they had finally made it in.
