Chapter 6

"I've already removed myself. If I don't avenge my brothers, I swear I'm not human."

Edward Carter's eyes were red, his fists clenched so tightly they made a metallic sound.

"Once I've avenged my brothers, I'll file a report and return to the Great Wall front line. I won't come back unless I'm dead!"

"Who are you calling 'old man' all the time? Who do you think you're calling 'old man'?"

"If I'd known, I would've let you die on the Great Wall back then. I wouldn't have dragged so many brothers down with you. I'll finish you off right now—" Baldy Wood strode quickly to the back of the table, took down the hanging laser pistol.

"Brothers dying on the front lines is their duty. My Wu'an Army hasn't fallen so low that we need to send young men to feed the wolves!"

With the gun pressed to his head, Edward Carter didn't even blink, his eyes wide like a bull's.

"This life was pulled back from the Great Wall by you back then. Now I'm giving it back to you!"

"Giving it back?"

Baldy Wood let out an angry laugh, kicked hard, and sent Edward Carter flying. He slammed the pistol down on the table.

Crack...

The poor iron table finally couldn't take it anymore and completely collapsed.

"Report—" A voice sounded from outside the door.

The adjutant George Thompson carefully opened a crack in the door and peeked into the office.

"What are you looking at? Get in here and speak."

"Reporting, Captain, there's a young man named Samuel Thompson outside, here to see Captain Carter."

"See? Someone's come looking for you. Good job. The military tribunal could execute you three times for this."

"Boss, it's not what you think..." "Shut up!"

Baldy Wood then said to George Thompson, "Bring him to the office."

...

"So young and promising...

So young and promising!"

A broken table, a gun on the floor, a big boot print on Edward Carter, and a shiny bald head like a lightbulb.

This was the first scene Samuel Thompson saw when he entered the office.

"Sigh~ So many years have passed in a blink. When I was your age, I also longed to wield a three-foot blade, fight on the Martial Great Wall, slay monsters across thousands of miles, and be admired by all."

As Baldy Wood spoke, he sized up the changes in Samuel Thompson.

"Time is like a clipper, shaving everyone bald. In you, I see the future of humanity. The ninth generation of humanity has hope."

Samuel Thompson's mouth twitched. The bald captain should really join the Blood God Cult. He was too passionate—if someone else said this, maybe he'd believe it.

Seeing that Samuel Thompson's expression hadn't changed, Baldy Wood knew his words hadn't worked.

Not what he expected.

Aren't young people supposed to have a hero's dream?

Damn, looks like this one's going to be tough.

"Ahem, here's the thing. This was Edward Carter's own idea. I've already scolded him. If you have any complaints, tell me. I'll try to make it up to you."

Hearing this, Samuel Thompson frowned slightly.

What?

Why does it feel like the thirty...

Six hundred thousand I just got is about to fly away?

"Boss, you've got it wrong, it's not you..." Edward Carter said cautiously.

"Shut up! Haven't you caused enough trouble already!"

Baldy Wood glared at Edward Carter.

Threatening a young man to be bait was a fact.

Add up both offenses, and even a Gatling gun firing blue flames would need five minutes to finish the job.

Baldy Wood was truly furious, but when he looked at Samuel Thompson, he forced a smile.

"Young man, let's be straightforward. Give me a clear answer. As long as it's within my power, I'll find a way."

Samuel Thompson pressed his lips together. Sure enough, the three hundred thousand was really about to fly away.

They just agreed not long ago, and now they're changing their minds.

What about integrity?

These days, money is hard to earn.

He looked at Edward Carter and said, "I can only refund 297,970. I'll charge you 1,000 for the post, deduct 1,000 for breach of contract, and 30 for membership. Is that okay?"

As he spoke, he opened his personal account, ready to delete the post he had sent.

His personal account wasn't a membership account; the name could only be changed once a year.

Luckily, it wasn't a big problem.

There were only three friends on the account: his parents and Grandpa White Rabbit.

His first online sales attempt had failed just like that.

"Wait!"

Seeing the image flash on the light screen, Baldy Wood was stunned.

This doesn't look right—why does it seem like mutual...

Chapter 3 Samuel Thompson's Strength

"Edward Carter, where did you get the money!"

"I... I sold my house. I wasn't going to get a chance to live in it anyway."

Finally getting a chance to speak, Edward Carter blurted it all out in one breath.

He'd been in this office for an hour, got scolded for 59 minutes, and hadn't said five sentences.

"I sold it for 1.8 million in total. Gave 1.5 million to the brothers' families, and the remaining 300,000..." Baldy Wood looked at Edward Carter, then at Samuel Thompson.

"You weren't here to complain?"

"Yeah~" Samuel Thompson nodded and said, "The Wu'an Army is outsourcing—does that mean no food or lodging?"

"Do you know why Edward Carter came to you?"

"Yeah~" "Aren't you afraid of dying?"

"My parents are both retired Divine Archer Army warriors. Since I was a child, my dream has been to set foot on the Martial Great Wall, slay the demon race, protect thousands of families, and join the Wu'an..." "Stop, stop, stop!"
