Chapter 7

Baldy Wood stopped Samuel Thompson from continuing—he had just heard these words in the video that Edward Carter brought over.

"You've really made up your mind?"

After several minutes of silence, Baldy Wood looked solemnly at Samuel Thompson. Seventy-seven brothers had died in a single day, and not even their remains had been recovered.

When it came to revenge, he was more desperate than anyone.

Edward Carter could act recklessly, but he absolutely could not.

"Mm~" Samuel Thompson didn't hesitate.

Three hundred thousand in hand—if it hadn't arrived, maybe he'd still be wavering.

But now that the three hundred thousand had been received, and he'd already enjoyed the interest for half a day, he was a bit reluctant to hand it back.

Seeing Baldy Wood so serious, his heart skipped a few beats, and he said, "You guys aren't really going to have me fish out the leader of the Blood God Cult, are you?"

"What are you thinking? The leader of the Blood God Cult is as cunning as a fox—how could he be lured out so easily?"

Baldy Wood replied.

"These bastards are hidden too deeply. In Jiangbei City, with over a million people, even someone buying groceries on the street could be one of them.

This time, we finally detected a Blood God Cult gathering, but who would've thought they'd go for mutual destruction, cutting off all leads.

We suspect that the Blood God Cult, which has been dormant for three years, suddenly holding a Blood God Ritual, must be planning something."

"Someone who can become the leader of a city can't be an idiot. It's unlikely they'd act just because of a video, right?"

At this point, Samuel Thompson asked, as he had always thought this method was unreliable.

"Of course. How could an idiot have survived three years under our Wu'an Army's crackdown?"

Baldy Wood continued, "But the reason the Blood God Cult is what it is, is because they're driven by profit, selfish and ruthless—they'll do anything for gain.

They're like rats underground—find one, and you can catch a whole nest.

Even if we can't find the leader, it doesn't matter. We'll dig out and eliminate all his subordinates. A leader without manpower is like a chicken without feathers.

There are nine cities in Jiangnan Province, and each city can only have one person in charge. The others who want to rise are all watching eagerly.

If we can take out this guy's subordinates, the leader, having lost his followers, will have to respond if he doesn't want to be replaced by someone else.

Once he slips up while responding, that's our chance to take his head. What you need to do is act as bait, to draw out the lost leads."

At this point, Baldy Wood added, "Of course, we can't be sure if it'll work, but we have no other options right now, so let's give it a try."

Samuel Thompson finally understood. So Edward Carter's idea was basically to let him act as bait, whether or not there were any fish—just cast a couple of lines and see if anything bites.

"What, you think this plan is stupid?"

Seeing Samuel Thompson's hesitation, Baldy Wood asked, "It's fine, just say it. Everyone outside says our Wu'an Army are all muscleheads—we're used to it."

"No, no."

Samuel Thompson shook his head and forced a fake smile, acting insincerely. With three hundred thousand already in his account earning interest, he had to show respect to the client.

……

"Alright, Samuel will stay in the camp for now. Go arrange his accommodation. I'll have someone make a fake file for Samuel in a bit—if we're going to act, we need to make it convincing."

After the three of them discussed for a while, Baldy Wood had already started calling Samuel Thompson by his given name, dropping the surname.

Once the other two left, Baldy Wood's face fell. He rummaged through the broken table and pulled out an internal phone, tested it, and dialed out.

"Is this the Garrison District Military Law Office? Get me Deputy Director Lane...

'Old comrade... just missing you...' 'Cut the crap~' came the crisp voice from the other end.

"Can the people from the Military Law Office delay their departure a bit~" Baldy Wood didn't waste time and asked directly.

"What are you up to?"

"I'm just asking. One incompetent general can exhaust three armies—over seventy brothers..."

Baldy Wood rubbed his bald head and said, "If it weren't for the fact that Fool Carter spent three years on the Martial Great Wall without coming down, suffering a hundred wounds, I would've shot him myself long ago—wouldn't have needed to trouble you, old pal."

"Just say it, I'm busy!"

"Give me five days. Just five days. After five days, you can take the man away—I won't say another word."

There was a moment of silence on the other end, then: "The Military Law Office will depart in five days. Beep... beep..." Slowly putting down the receiver, Baldy Wood rubbed his big face.

"Sigh, looks like I'll never get that promotion before retirement."

……

The next day.

In a luxurious private room.

The light screen was frozen, two images pulled out—one a big middle finger, the other a dynamic screenshot.

"...

Big trash!"

A man with an ordinary-looking face sat quietly on the sofa.

Beep~ The smartphone rang. The man glanced at it and immediately hung up.

Beep beep beep~ After hanging up, it rang again.

Again and again, he hung up, and again and again, it rang.

Finally, the man answered, revealing a figure with a large black hood covering their head.

"Tsk tsk~ Clark, nicely done. Made the news, and even lost a totem board. Three years in Jiangbei, and you brought our Blood God Cult such a big surprise?"

"You really are ruthless—over a hundred people, and you just threw them away, even handed them over to the Wu'an Army. Aren't you afraid they'll rat you out?"
