Seeing her younger sister about to be devoured by the wolf pack, the usually composed and unflappable elder sister Emily Thompson, who could remain calm even in the most perilous missions, could no longer keep her cool. She let out a piercing scream, her face nearly contorted with anguish, wishing she could take her sister’s place in death.
Although she often indulged her younger sister and sometimes had to discipline her, the bond between the Gemini sisters was so deep that outsiders could hardly comprehend it.
The Type 95 automatic rifle in her hands switched to full auto, spitting out fierce tongues of fire, but it was like a drop in the ocean.
Even special heavy bullets had to hit vital spots to kill or seriously injure these thick-skinned giant wolves. The firepower of a single automatic rifle was far from enough.
While a few of their companions pounced on the girl who had fallen to the ground, the other Three-striped Ice Fang Wolves seized the opportunity to lunge at the tree where Emily Thompson was.
Suddenly, a rapid chanting sound came from the distance, as if someone was reciting a mysterious and profound incantation.
The chanting was approaching quickly.
Chapter 0003: Spell Shield
Boom!~
After closing her eyes in despair, Grace Thompson suddenly heard a heavy thud and wails in her ears. Other than smelling a strong stench of blood, she didn’t feel the pain of sharp claws tearing into her body.
Immediately after, she heard her sister cry out in surprise.
She opened her eyes in confusion, her eyes widening in disbelief.
At some unknown moment, a membrane of light had appeared in front of Grace Thompson, stopping just a few centimeters from her. It was now slowly retreating, stopping at just over a foot away, perfectly separating her from the giant wolves.
This membrane of light caught Grace Thompson’s gaze. On its faintly glowing white surface, many strange patterns were outlined, as if containing some profound truth.
What on earth was this thing?
Grace Thompson simply couldn’t explain what she was witnessing with her own knowledge.
Just a moment ago, several giant wolves had clearly slammed into this membrane and were bounced back by the recoil. They struggled to get up, letting out a series of fearful whimpers, eyeing the membrane with terror and unease, not daring to pounce again and suffer for it.
With another round of cracking sounds and the tree trunk shaking, the tree where Emily Thompson was finally couldn’t withstand the wolves’ assault and slowly toppled over.
“Ah!~”
Focused entirely on her sister, Emily Thompson forgot to grab the trunk to steady herself and was accidentally thrown off.
As she screamed, about to crash hard to the ground, the surrounding wolves let out savage howls, and one giant wolf suddenly lunged at her.
Boom! A black shadow shot over from the distance, slamming fiercely into the Three-striped Ice Fang Wolf.
With a terrifying crack of breaking bones, the unlucky wolf didn’t even have time to cushion the blow. It flew out like a rag doll, landing far away in the forest, never to make a sound again.
The black shadow, its momentum undiminished, rushed over, stretched out its arms, and caught the falling Emily Thompson securely. With a solid stance, he absorbed all the impact with ease.
As if suddenly frightened, the other giant wolves reflexively tucked their tails and fled dozens of meters away, letting out a series of panicked howls. The ferocity and cruelty they had shown moments before while hunting had completely vanished.
Held in a warm, strong embrace, Emily Thompson stared dumbfounded at the person holding her in a textbook-perfect princess carry. A pair of strong hands firmly supported her behind her knees and under her arms.
A blush slowly crept up her cheeks. Even though it was covered by military camouflage paint, Emily Thompson knew she must be blushing fiercely. She had never been held by a man like this before, but for some reason, a deep sense of security and reassurance welled up inside her.
It seemed that as long as this man was by her side, the danger posed by these giant wolves instantly dropped to the level of Chihuahuas.
“Hello, Major Emily Thompson.”
“Hello, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Benson. C-could you put me down?”
“As you wish!”
The man who had appeared at the most critical moment like a war god now acted like a gentleman. Carrying her a few steps, he gently set Emily Thompson down beside her sister Grace Thompson.
With a wave of his hand, that magical membrane of light suddenly expanded, like an overturned bowl, enveloping both her and her sister.
It was this very shield that had protected Grace Thompson in an instant, saving her from the wolves’ attack.
Even if they were slow to react, the twin sisters now understood that this astonishingly strong shield must be mysteriously connected to Lieutenant Colonel Mark Benson. Not long ago, they had just discovered his enormous secret, only to unexpectedly arrive in this world.
Who would have thought that an ace fighter pilot, who just moments before was dogfighting in the skies, would the next moment be clad in flamboyant heavy armor, riding a giant dragon that had appeared out of nowhere, turning the tide of battle and slaughtering enemies everywhere? His callsign “Dragon Knight” was not just a codename, but he was a true Dragon Knight.
A group of low-level magical beasts, numbering less than a hundred, naturally didn’t concern Mark Benson. He drew the special survival knife from his leg and made a ready stance toward the Three-striped Ice Fang Wolf pack.
