Chapter 8

Mark Benson touched his left wrist. A dark, flat ring was tightly fastened to the “Dragon General” bracer, fitting perfectly. If you didn’t look closely, you’d think it was originally a component of the “Dragon General” itself. This was something left to him by that gluttonous beast.

However, it seemed that guy had done something else to him. He kept feeling that something was off, but couldn’t pinpoint the reason.

“Hurry up and brush your teeth, wash your face, and eat breakfast!”

Even though they were in another world, the twin star intelligence agent younger sister Grace Thompson, just like her older sister, was calm and composed, accepting her fate as if she had already resigned herself to never returning to their original world.

No wonder they were both elite members of the “Night” Special Operations Intelligence Team. No matter where these twin sisters went, they could quickly adapt.

For the two of them, even though Mark Benson had another mysterious identity—perhaps with reasons that couldn’t be explained or a story too complicated to tell, causing him to keep this astonishing secret—at present, Colonel Mark Benson was still completely trustworthy and an indispensable member of their small three-person team.

At night, the three took turns keeping watch, tending the fire to ward off wild beasts and guarding against nocturnal predators.

The last shift belonged to the twin star younger sister Grace Thompson, so naturally, she was the one to wake Mark Benson. Even though she had twisted her ankle, that didn’t mean the Type 95 automatic rifle in her hands had turned into a mere stick.

These twin sisters were quite self-reliant, not the type to depend entirely on men. As soon as Mark Benson woke up, he saw the twin star older sister Emily Thompson had already prepared breakfast.

Since they were still unfamiliar with the local plants, the only breakfast they could make was a porridge of compressed biscuits and some leftover roasted meat from the night before.

Fortunately, the compass the sisters brought and the “Dragon General”’s magnetic field sensing module both worked normally. They picked a random direction and started moving forward.

Because special forces could only carry limited supplies, the medicine applied to Grace Thompson’s ankle had to rely on primitive herbs gathered from the forest.

At least these leaves and tubers had some medicinal effect; at the very least, the pain wasn’t as bad as before, but walking was still a problem.

“Tendons and bones take a hundred days to heal.” Although there was no fracture, in the absence of special medicine...

“You big liar, I don’t need your help. My sister and I can walk.”

She cut a branch to use as a crutch, and Grace Thompson stubbornly insisted on walking by herself for four days. Her sister Emily Thompson could only help support her from time to time.

Clearly, this girl harbored a deep grudge against the person who had tricked her and caused her such embarrassment in the team. Even the waters of the Three Rivers, Four Seas, Five Lakes, and Six Marshes would not be enough to wash it away.

Mark Benson could only exchange a helpless glance with the twin star older sister Emily Thompson and shrug. With his strength, carrying this little girl was almost as easy as picking up a chick.

But precisely because Grace Thompson insisted on not letting others help, not only did she make things hard for herself, but she also greatly slowed down the group’s progress.

Even now, there was still no sign of leaving this forest. It was as if this dense plain forest was endless, with no end in sight.

“Roar...”

“What was that sound?”

Emily Thompson suddenly stopped, and in an instant, the automatic rifle on her back was in her hands.

They had encountered plenty of fierce beasts in this forest, but fortunately, they had Mark Benson, an even fiercer man, with them.

All those terrifying beasts had become breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and sometimes even a midnight snack.

Although they were in an unfamiliar forest, at least with such a powerful protector, there was no need to be constantly on edge. Their journey felt more like an aimless, endless adventure.

“It’s a dragon!”

Mark Benson also stopped, quickly leaping up a nearby tree to look into the distant sky.

Chapter 0006: Flying Dragon

“A dragon? Could it be your dragon?”

Emily Thompson was startled, immediately thinking of the giant beast that had fought alongside Mark Benson on Socotra Island—a veritable killing machine on the battlefield, still unforgettable to this day.

“No, judging by the sound, it should be a small wind-type flying dragon, not a member of the giant dragon clan.”

Perched in the treetop, Mark Benson shook his head, then jumped down and gave the sisters a concealed hand signal.

No one knew whether the newcomer was friend or foe, so it was better to be cautious.

Hiding under the thick, leafy tree, Mark Benson softly chanted an incantation, and a light mirror the size of a dinner plate suddenly appeared in front of him.

“Huh? What’s that?!”

Leaning on her crutch under the tree, Grace Thompson saw this scene and, for a moment, even forgot her grudge against this big liar, her curiosity piqued.

This spell was simply amazing—it could easily spy into any corner. If paired with lip-reading or laser eavesdropping technology, wouldn’t it be the best surveillance method?

“Light Mirror Spell, first-level spell!”

Mark Benson didn’t explain much, instead focusing his mind and continuing to control this simple first-level spell with his mental power.

As the older sister, Emily Thompson didn’t show her curiosity as openly as her younger sister. She simply observed the floating, half-illusory, half-solid light mirror in silence.
