“Brother, what you said isn’t right,” Brian Cooper whispered. Didn’t everyone eat meat together? How come with you it’s just following you to drink soup? “Besides, we don’t even have any meat at home right now…”
“Oh,” Jason Carter nodded and changed his wording to Miss Emily: “From now on, if I have a bowl of soup to drink, you’ll have a bowl to wash!”
Brian Cooper: “???”
“Pfft!” The Shopkeeper, who was drinking water nearby, spat it out in one go.
However, Emily Thompson didn’t mind: “Alright, then I’ll wash your bowls and do your laundry from now on.”
When she said this, she didn’t even consider whether there’d be enough water—she just agreed first.
The Shopkeeper smacked his lips as he watched Jason Carter and the other two leave. He turned to the The Young Clerk in the shop and said, “Don’t mess with him, you hear me?”
As soon as Jason Carter and the others stepped outside, they suddenly heard a cry: “Doctor, please, I beg you, save my husband! If we lose him, our family really won’t survive.”
At the entrance of the clinic, a middle-aged woman was kneeling on the ground, kowtowing to the only doctor in town. But the doctor sneered, “No money, no treatment.”
“If you save him, our whole family will be forever grateful for your great kindness,” the woman sobbed. “When The Old Doctor was still here, he was a kind and good man. You’re his son, so you must be kind too, right?”
“My father’s kindness was his own business!”
With that, the doctor turned and shut the clinic door. Next to the woman, a man lay on the ground, blood still flowing from his abdomen.
Jason Carter didn’t step forward, nor did he try to play the good Samaritan. In fact, he could tell that the man had already stopped breathing.
He simply watched the scene and calmly said, “Brian, remember everything you see here. This is reality.”
Chapter 14: Deception
The sky hadn’t completely darkened yet, but dark clouds were already drifting in from the distant horizon.
“Acid rain is coming, let’s hurry home,” Jason Carter said expressionlessly. The woman was still crying and shouting, but no one paid them any attention.
The man’s wound didn’t look like an accident; Jason Carter could easily tell it was a knife wound. So it definitely wasn’t an injury from the factory, but rather he’d been killed in a fight.
Back in their own shack, the acid rain came quickly and left just as fast.
Brian Cooper sat on the bed and suddenly said, “Brother, you want people’s sincere gratitude, right? It’s pretty easy for a doctor to get that. When The Old Doctor was still around, everyone was grateful to him. But I don’t think you should be a doctor. First, doctors often end up in tough situations. Second, you don’t know any medical skills…”
Jason Carter turned to look at Brian Cooper with a blank expression: “Then what kind of nonsense are you spouting!”
Wait a minute!
Suddenly, Jason Carter realized he might have overlooked something. Even though he didn’t know medicine, he could learn!
He still hadn’t used the two skill learning charts the palace in his mind had rewarded him. If he just used one, wouldn’t he be able to learn the doctor’s medical skills?
Then he could treat people, or, if nothing else, if he or Brian Cooper got sick, he could treat them himself.
When The Old Doctor was still around, he often went out to gather herbs. Back then, The Old Doctor would joke with people, saying that although the wild beasts had gotten fiercer, the medicinal herbs had also become more potent.
So, relying on his ability to identify herbs and his excellent medical skills, The Old Doctor really did cure a lot of people, and the herbs he gathered were sold cheaply.
Of course, Jason Carter wasn’t some kind of saint. He just thought that if he had such medical skills, he could handle emergencies! And make money!
After all, most of the side effects Brian Cooper suffered after making wishes were just colds, fevers, headaches, and such. He didn’t want Brian Cooper to suffer backlash from wishing, but sometimes, what if circumstances forced their hand?
“I want to be a doctor!” Jason Carter said, his eyes showing a determined look.
“Brother, are you alright?” Brian Cooper was dumbfounded. “You don’t know any medicine! Don’t end up killing someone. We may not save people, but we don’t harm them either…”
Jason Carter lightly smacked the back of Brian Cooper’s head: “You sure talk a lot. When have I ever gone out of my way to hurt anyone?”
At this point, Jason Carter was already making plans. If he became a doctor, he’d definitely be able to make money, and that would mean a stable income.
People in this town got hurt all the time, so medical treatment was a real necessity.
He decided to act right away. The next morning, as soon as Jason Carter woke up, he skipped school, stuffed two bites of black bread in his mouth, and went to squat at the clinic door, waiting for it to open.
But the clinic was as stubborn as ever. Jason Carter waited all the way until noon, and it still hadn’t opened…
By the afternoon, when the clock in the refuge fortress struck two, the The Young Doctor finally opened the door lazily, stretching as he came out to bask in the sun. But before he could finish stretching, he was startled by Jason Carter squatting at the door.
“Are you here to see a doctor? Did you bring money?” the doctor asked.
The doctor didn’t even bother to ask what was wrong with Jason Carter; he only cared about money.
Jason Carter grinned and said, “I’m not here for treatment, go about your business.”
The doctor was baffled. If you’re not here for treatment, what are you squatting at my door for?
