Chapter 6

She didn’t even have to think to know it was definitely Brian Ford daydreaming again.

The classmates who had come out to watch the commotion were already laughing uproariously.

Olivia Smith looked at the extremely nervous Emily Carter and the still somewhat confused Brian Ford, and she also understood what had happened. Although her face was still a bit red, her kind heart had already started to excuse Brian Ford for his mistake: “It’s… fine, I know he didn’t do it on purpose.”

Not to mention Emily Carter, even Brian Ford himself found it a bit unbelievable: if it had been any other girl who was so abruptly approached by a boy, she would definitely have shouted, “Pervert!” Unexpectedly, Olivia Smith not only wasn’t angry, but even spoke up for him. Could it be that she actually likes me?

Brian Ford started daydreaming again.

But then Olivia Smith covered her mouth and said with a laugh, as if pouring a bucket of cold water over his head: “Brian Ford, you’re quite famous.” As soon as she said this, the onlookers burst into another round of laughter.

Of course, Brian Ford knew exactly what he was famous for. His daydream ended, and he stood there with his head down, silent.

At this moment, Olivia Smith turned and asked Emily Carter, “I’m here to find your class’s sports committee member for a meeting in the PE office. Is he here?”

Hearing the school beauty call, the sports committee member Ethan Brooks, who had been watching the fun in the crowd, immediately stood up straight and proud: “I’m here, I’m here.”

“Okay, let’s go.” Amid the envious gazes of others, Ethan Brooks went downstairs with Olivia Smith. At this moment, everyone’s attention was drawn to the school beauty, and no one paid any attention to Brian Ford.

Only Emily Carter looked at Olivia Smith’s departing figure, then at her own childhood friend. “Let’s go, let’s get back, what are you standing here for?” She pulled Brian Ford back to the classroom.

Watching Olivia Smith leave, David Clark returned and took the opportunity to undermine his rival’s confidence: “Don’t be silly, a toad can never eat swan meat!”

Brian Ford shot him a glare but said nothing.

How could he not know his own worth? It’s just that every time he thought of Olivia Smith’s every smile and frown, he couldn’t control his racing heartbeat.

Even a loser and an idiot has the right to dream, right? Enough thinking… back to dreaming.

“Ah! Brian Ford, you’ve fallen asleep again!” Emily Carter shouted angrily.

Brian Ford weakly waved his hand, as if shooing away a fly, trying to drive away Emily Carter’s nagging by his ear. He wanted to sleep, and didn’t want anyone to disturb him. Only in his dreams could he go on a date with Olivia Smith.

Emily Carter looked at Brian Ford slumped over the desk, listless, and her tightly furrowed brows relaxed helplessly. She really didn’t know what to do with her childhood playmate. Oh well, let him be!

Chapter 002: The Tenant Who Fell from the Sky

Brian Ford stood at his own front door, took out his key, and prepared to unlock it. Over there, Emily Carter had already opened her own door and said to Brian Ford, “Come eat at my place, my mom made braised pork today!”

Brian Ford looked up, already fantasizing about whether braised pork or instant noodles was more tempting.

Obviously, braised pork was tastier. Brian Ford swallowed hard.

Hearing this sound, Emily Carter knew exactly what Brian Ford would choose. Without another word, she grabbed Brian Ford’s hand and pulled him inside.

“Mom! Little Brian is here for dinner, set an extra place!”

When there were no outsiders, Emily Carter always liked to call Brian Ford by his nickname, “Little Brian.” But ever since watching the movie “Gorgeous” starring Jackie Chan and Shu Qi, Brian Ford had firmly objected to this nickname. Because Emily Carter had seen it too, she would always imitate Shu Qi’s tone, pouting and calling, “Little Brian, Little Brian,” just like calling that dolphin.

“Objection! Don’t call me that!” Brian Ford said as he took off his shoes.

“Objection overruled!” Emily Carter put on her slippers and went straight into her room.

“Hehe, Little Brian is here too!” Auntie came out of the kitchen, wiping her hands, and greeted Brian Ford with a smile.

“Hello, Auntie Li. I’m here for another free meal today,” he said with his head down. Emily Carter’s mother’s surname was Li.

Brian Ford’s parents were never home; they were always busy abroad, so Brian Ford spent most of the year living alone. Many times, he ate at his neighbor Emily Carter’s house. The two families were very close, so even if he freeloaded, it was never a problem. But as he got older, Brian Ford realized it wasn’t good to keep doing this, so he gradually came less often.

Entering Emily Carter’s room, Emily Carter was all smiles. “Why don’t you dare protest to my mom?”

“None of your business!” Brian Ford glared at Emily Carter, then pulled up a chair to sit at the desk, flipping through the books on Emily Carter’s desk—all sorts of study guides.

Sometimes Brian Ford wondered, how come, even though they grew up together, Emily Carter was so smart, while he couldn’t do anything right? Logically, both his parents were outstanding talents, senior engineers abroad who managed foreigners, so why was he, their son, so useless?

Brian Ford flipped to Emily Carter’s homework.

“All done? That’s great, let me copy it tonight…” Before he could finish, Emily Carter snatched it away.

“We agreed I’d tutor you, don’t even think about slacking off!”

Brian Ford made a face at Emily Carter, then went to the bookshelf to look for books.

“Dinner’s ready, you two little rascals!” Emily Carter’s father had just come home and called out in a booming voice.
