After the little beggar happily left with the food, Brian Grant wandered around near Liang Garden for a while, casually bought some snacks, and enjoyed them while admiring the beautiful scenery of Liang Garden. He couldn't help but feel emotional: In the past, I was always flying around, only thinking about how to make more money, never considering stopping for a moment to appreciate the scenery along the way. Sigh... I really don't know whether I've gained more or lost more.
After wandering for half a day, Brian Grant saw that it was about time, so he quietly headed to Chen Building.
But he didn't go directly to Chen Building; instead, he went to the residence behind it.
After announcing himself, Brian Grant entered the main hall, where he saw an elderly man with black and white hair, slightly plump, sitting inside.
This old man was none other than the owner of Chen Building, Helen Brooks.
Brian Grant stepped forward, cupped his hands, and said, "I apologize for this presumptuous visit and any disturbance I may have caused, and I ask for your forgiveness, Mr. Brooks."
Helen Brooks merely waved his hand casually, his gaze full of hostility.
Brian Grant thanked him and then sat down.
Helen Brooks glanced sideways and said, "If you were sent by that brat George Reed, then you needn't waste your breath." Clearly, he had already received word that George Reed had changed tactics and planned to enlist the help of a broker to acquire his Chen Building.
Brian Grant smiled and said, "I heard that you already intend to sell the shop. Since that's the case, does it matter to whom you sell it?"
Helen Brooks's eyes widened in anger as he said, "I would sell to anyone but that despicable George Reed."
Brian Grant chuckled, "It seems you still hold a grudge over the incident when George Reed framed Chen Building with inferior wine."
Helen Brooks snorted, "As long as you know."
Brian Grant said, "But what if Jinyu Building is willing to offer ten thousand taels?"
"Even for ten thousand taels, I wouldn't..." Helen Brooks stopped mid-sentence, suddenly closed his mouth, and then leaned in, "How much did you just say?"
"Ten thousand taels."
Brian Grant raised a finger and enunciated each word clearly.
Helen Brooks was stunned for a moment, then immediately laughed, "They say the Kou family's son-in-law doesn't know business, and it seems to be true. That George Reed may be despicable, but I have to admit, he's very shrewd. How could he possibly offer ten thousand taels? You must have misheard after drinking too much."
He certainly knew the value of Chen Building; it was definitely not worth twenty thousand taels. That would be double the price—how could that be possible?
Brian Grant smiled slightly, "There's no need to say all that, I just have one question: ten thousand taels—will you sell or not?"
Helen Brooks frowned and glanced at Brian Grant, "If Jinyu Building is willing to pay ten thousand taels, of course I'll sell."
Brian Grant shrugged, "There you go."
Helen Brooks grew even more suspicious, "But how could Jinyu Building possibly be willing to pay ten thousand taels?"
Brian Grant chuckled, "Whether they're willing or not doesn't matter. What matters is that I want to sell it to them for ten thousand taels."
"What do you mean by that?" Helen Brooks was getting more and more confused.
Brian Grant said, "Let's keep it simple. I'll help you sell it for ten thousand taels, but I want a commission of two thousand taels."
"Two thousand taels?"
Helen Brooks suddenly stood up, "You're daydreaming!"
According to broker rules, the agent usually takes a three percent cut, which is already quite a lot. But two thousand taels is twenty percent—unheard of in the brokerage business!
Brian Grant smiled, "Would you really rather make a few thousand taels less than let me earn these two thousand taels?"
This price was indeed a bit hard for Helen Brooks to swallow. He glanced at Brian Grant, sat back down, and asked, "Who exactly are you here for?"
He had, of course, heard of Brian Grant's reputation. If Brian Grant was serious, then he must have someone backing him.
But Brian Grant replied, "Myself."
"The Kou family?"
"No."
Brian Grant shook his head, "Me, Brian Grant."
Helen Brooks looked at Brian Grant with deep suspicion.
Brian Grant smiled, "Sir, in business, it's all about the money. Just tell me—do you accept these terms or not? Does it really matter who I'm here for?"
Helen Brooks thought for a moment, "That may be so, but I still need to know who I'm working with."
Brian Grant said helplessly, "Didn't I already answer? You're working with me, Brian Grant."
Helen Brooks said, "To be frank, your reputation among brokers isn't very good!"
"That's because the money is too little."
Brian Grant shook his head, then said seriously, "I'm not interested in any deal with a commission less than a thousand taels."
Helen Brooks couldn't help but laugh and get angry, "Whether you have the skills or not, you sure have a big mouth. Have you ever seen a broker take a thousand taels in commission?"
Brian Grant gave a wry smile, "I suppose that's why my reputation isn't great. When I see such tiny commissions, I feel it's a waste of my time. Only by deliberately messing up the deal will the Kou family stop sending me on errands every day."
"Is that so?"
"If you think I'm just boasting, we can sign a wager contract."
"A wager contract?"
"That's right. If I help you sell it for ten thousand taels, you pay me five hundred taels on top of the two thousand taels commission, for a total of two thousand five hundred taels. If I fail, I'll pay you five hundred taels."
