Chapter 15

Currently, the one in charge is Sarah Harper. Although Edward Harper feels somewhat uneasy, he still chooses to trust Sarah Harper.

Both parties immediately discussed the details further. Since there was a precondition that the sale could not be made to Jinyu Restaurant, the Harper family was only responsible for helping Chen Building find a buyer and negotiating, but did not have the authority to sign a contract on behalf of Chen Building. The final decision still rested with Helen Brooks. Normally, brokers would sell according to the employer’s terms and price, and they would have the authority to sign contracts.

After a detailed discussion, both parties finally signed an employment contract.

After chatting for a while longer, Helen Brooks got up to take his leave. But just as he reached the door, Brian Grant suddenly passed by.

“Eh? We have a guest!”

The contract had just been signed, and this harbinger of trouble appeared. Edward Harper immediately had a bad feeling, but since he was his son-in-law, he could only say, “Aren’t you going to greet Uncle Brooks?”

Brian Grant entered the room and bowed, saying, “Nephew greets Uncle Brooks.”

“No need for formalities, no need.”

Seeing Brian Grant arrive, Helen Brooks felt relieved and turned to Edward Harper, saying, “Brother, since your legs aren’t well, there’s no need to see me out. Your worthy nephew can walk me out.”

Edward Harper was not entirely at ease, but it was reasonable for Brian Grant to escort him, so he smiled and nodded, “Thank you for your understanding, Brother Brooks. My son-in-law and William Harper, you two go and see Brother Brooks out for me.”

Helen Brooks waved his hand, “No need for all that trouble, your nephew can walk me out.”

With that, he strode out.

Edward Harper hesitated for a moment before waving for Brian Grant to go, but still quietly reminded him, “Don’t say anything inappropriate.”

“I understand.” Brian Grant nodded, then followed him out.

When they reached the front courtyard, Helen Brooks glanced around and said in a low voice, “Nephew, there’s something I really don’t understand. Since you’re so capable, why do you keep hiding it? If you have the ability, won’t all the Harper family’s assets be yours?”

Brian Grant looked him straight in the eye and said calmly, “I just want to make easy money, not the hard-earned kind that requires me to watch over the shop every day. Look at my father-in-law—he’s worked himself sick.”

Helen Brooks was stunned for a moment, feeling an indescribable discomfort inside. So all the money I made before was the hard-earned kind!

Times have changed!

Brian Grant then asked, “How did your negotiations go?”

“All settled. Oh, all according to your requirements.”

Helen Brooks paused, then added, “But your wife is truly decisive—she agreed right away.”

Brian Grant replied calmly, “It’s only called decisiveness if you make money. If you don’t, it’s called being impulsive.” As he spoke, he suddenly glanced sideways at Helen Brooks, and said with a straight face, “It’s useless.”

“Yes, yes.”

Helen Brooks couldn’t help but wipe his sweat. Talking to this guy was really uncomfortable—every word was barbed, with no respect for elders or care for the young. He quickly changed the subject, “Oh, the clothes you wanted, I’ve already prepared them.”

Brian Grant gave a sound of acknowledgment and said, “Next, all you need to do is stay at the shop, because in a few days, there will be many customers coming, so you need to be fully prepared. We’re at the door now, take care.”

“Ah... I—”

Helen Brooks wanted to chat more with Brian Grant, but before he could finish, the guy turned and left, leaving him dumbfounded, standing at the gate, his thoughts and hair both a bit disheveled.

A bit too arrogant!

“Sarah, why did you agree so quickly just now, without even thinking it over?”

As soon as Helen Brooks left, Edward Harper immediately said to Sarah Harper, “You should know that the most likely buyer for Chen Building right now is Jinyu Restaurant. That George Reed is determined to get it. If we can’t sell to Jinyu Restaurant, this deal will be very hard to complete. Besides... besides, no restaurant has ever sold its kitchen and restaurant separately. If you rashly take on this deal and fail, people will laugh at us. Our Harper family’s reputation is already not what it used to be. At a time like this, we should be even more cautious.”

Just as Brian Grant said earlier, decisiveness is based on success. If you can’t succeed, it’s just impulsiveness. Clearly, Edward Harper thought Sarah Harper was being a bit impulsive.

Sarah Harper replied, “Father, I didn’t agree on impulse. In fact, even if Helen Brooks hadn’t come today, I was planning to send William Harper to Chen Building to discuss with him.”

“Oh?”

Edward Harper frowned slightly, looking at his daughter in confusion.

Sarah Harper said, “Recently, the Bennett family has been targeting us everywhere, sparing no expense. This has gone beyond business competition—the Bennett family wants to completely destroy us. We can’t just sit and wait for death. Given the current situation, Jinyu Restaurant has already chosen the Bennett family. If we can represent Chen Building, then we’ll have the initiative.”

At this point, she paused briefly. “Actually, I already had the steward approach Yunxiao Restaurant before, but the results weren’t ideal. So I had the same concerns as you—even if we could represent Chen Building, how could we close the deal? If Helen Brooks hadn’t proposed the plan to split the sale, I would never have dared to agree so easily.”

Edward Harper asked in confusion, “What do you mean by that?”
