Chapter 4

Auerbach, a well-known Jewish lawyer from Canada, obtained civil law degrees from both Princeton University in the United States and Oxford University in the United Kingdom. After the establishment of diplomatic relations between Canada and China in 1970, he became the second Canadian ambassador to China. In 1987 and 1989, he served as the chief legal clerk to the Chief Justice of the Newfoundland Regional Court in Canada. He was once a lawyer for the Canadian delegation to the United Nations, and before retirement, he worked at Canada’s most prestigious law firm, FAKEN-MATINEAU, also known as 法铭德律师事务所...

Once Auerbach's identity was confirmed, Owen Sutton could rest assured and fly to Canada to claim his inheritance.

This was Owen Sutton's first time flying. Auerbach bought the ticket: from Beijing to Toronto, then a connecting flight to St. John's, the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador Province. The ticket cost ten thousand yuan!

The night was dark, and the weather in the capital was notoriously bad. The starry sky was gloomy, not a single star in sight. On the way, Owen Sutton thought it was going to rain, but William Grant told him this was just typical weather in the capital.

Powerful tungsten-iodine lamps lit up the airport, with planes constantly taking off and landing. Large aircraft were parked on the tarmac, some painted with orange-red cloud patterns—truly beautiful.

The Boeing 777 flying from the capital to Toronto was also painted with cloud patterns, in light blue colors. The fuselage was nearly seventy meters long, with a wingspan of over sixty meters. Its sleek shape made it look full of aesthetic appeal, and the colorful paint glowed dreamily under the night, making Owen Sutton extremely excited.

When boarding, flight attendants guided the passengers. The Air Canada attendants were, of course, blonde, blue-eyed Western women, and Owen Sutton watched them with great interest. When he took his seat, he found it was by the window.

At first, this made him very happy—after takeoff, he could enjoy the spectacular view of the city lights. However, once the plane was airborne, Owen Sutton looked down through the round window, and his expression changed instantly.

It was hard to describe the feeling. As the plane accelerated, Owen Sutton's heart suddenly raced, pounding violently. A strong sense of suffocation filled his chest, making his breathing rapid and his vision darken. Then, a distorted aerial view appeared in his mind, and the food in his stomach surged up his throat. It took all his willpower to suppress the urge to retch.

The plane roared as it began its second ascent. Auerbach took a deep breath, startled. At this point, Owen Sutton was nothing like his energetic self when he first boarded. His face was deathly pale, cold sweat poured down, and he gripped the armrest tightly, looking as if his organs were failing.

Auerbach calmly grasped his wrist, then pressed the call button above his head. Soon, a flight attendant in a sky-blue uniform, black stockings, and high heels hurried over.

“Could you please check on my friend? He seems to be airsick,” Auerbach said with a wry smile.

After glancing at Owen Sutton, the flight attendant quickly left. Not long after, Owen Sutton felt a gentle, slightly cool hand touch his forehead.

“It’s nothing serious. This gentleman is just a bit afraid of heights—it’s quite common,” a soft, pleasant voice said soothingly.

Then, Owen Sutton felt the hand on his forehead move to his palm, and someone said, “Relax, sir. Take a deep breath. Come, breathe deeply with my rhythm. Imagine you’re sitting at your dining table at home, or in your yard, or out in the fields. Your parents are right beside you... Do you see them? They’re smiling at you. Is there anything you want to say? Try talking to your parents for a bit...”

“Mom, I feel sick!” Owen Sutton tried to imagine himself in the fields back home, and when the pleasant voice prompted him to speak, he couldn’t help but blurt this out.

As soon as he spoke, he heard Auerbach laugh.

The flight attendant beside him continued to whisper softly in his ear, comforting him. A faint fragrance drifted into his nose, reminding him of the locust flowers back home during the Dragon Boat Festival.

The same elegance, the same sweetness.

The dizziness and nausea finally began to subside. Owen Sutton swallowed and slowly opened his eyes. He turned his head and suddenly became fully alert, all the negative feelings replaced by amazement.

Sitting in Auerbach's seat was a young woman with beautiful black hair. Her features were as delicate as porcelain, her cherry lips naturally red, and her light blue eyes as clear as the sky after rain. Unlike the rough skin of most Western women, her skin was smooth and lustrous like warm jade, glowing softly under the orange cabin lights.

A perfectly tailored sapphire-blue flight attendant uniform hugged her slender figure, accentuating her graceful curves. Her pretty face wore a sweet smile as she gazed gently at Owen Sutton, making him feel, for a moment, as if a fairy had stepped out of a painting.

“Are you feeling better?” the flight attendant asked with a smile, then gently helped Owen Sutton move to Auerbach's seat. She explained to the latter, “Would you mind switching seats with this gentleman? He’s not suited to sitting by the window.”

Auerbach smiled and said, “My pleasure.”

Once Owen Sutton sat down, the flight attendant nodded gently, straightened her skirt, and stood up. Her long, shapely legs, wrapped in flesh-colored crystal stockings, exuded an ivory-like allure.
