Chapter 5

Henry Clark was startled himself—was that it? In his view, he had just finished the preparatory stage of hypnosis, and the big guy had already collapsed headfirst onto the ground. That was way too cooperative. He still didn’t understand that all mages possessed superhuman perception; the more outstanding the mage, the stronger their sensitivity to the outside world. Only in this way could they communicate with the elements at any time and summon them for battle. The true meaning of hypnosis was to use the caster’s psychological suggestion to guide the subject’s perception into the spiritual world. The more delicate and sensitive a person’s perception, the easier they were to hypnotize.

Behind him, all the villagers’ mouths hung open in shock. Mr. Todd had already become a bloody mess, but ignoring the cracked skin all over his body, he carefully walked up to the necromancer. After confirming that he had completely fallen into an unbreakable slumber, he jumped up, grinning from ear to ear, and hugged the young man, exclaiming in delight, “My god… kid, you… sir… you actually put a grand necromancer into eternal sleep!!” After saying this, the wise and worldly Lord Todd suddenly remembered something, swallowed hard, and said in a tone full of astonishment and disbelief, “This… this is a mental attack! Heavens, praise our god, Lord Achilles, so you are a master of mental magic!”

Mental magic stood out as a unique system among the many magical disciplines. Its casting did not require the aid of elemental power; instead, the mage used an immensely powerful soul to launch attacks directly on the spiritual level. Because mental magic was swift and its attacks were completely unpredictable, it was recognized by the continent’s mages as the king of all magic. However, in this plane, the mental magic sequence had disappeared for thousands of years, and people’s understanding of it came only from legends and stories.

Henry Clark curled his lips and thought to himself, “Damn, this is hypnosis! Standard deep-suggestion hypnosis!” He hadn’t seen any records of ‘mental magic’ in the books, so he casually said, “Heh, mental magic! Sounds pretty good!”

Without thinking, Mr. Todd fawned, “Of course, mental magic is the king of all magic! You can easily defeat high-level mages—could it be… my god! You are a Grand Seer!”

Mental mages, upon reaching the saintly rank, were uniformly called Grand Seers and regarded as those closest to the gods in the world!

Henry Clark was momentarily stunned. Todd continued with a chuckle, “I once heard that mental magic has long been lost, because mental mages don’t rely on master-apprentice inheritance, but are chosen by the gods to inherit the magic. Only those favored by the gods can become mental mages!”

Henry Clark wasn’t focused on this; he was still carefully considering how to deal with the ‘Wu Family Kiln lackey’ snoring on the ground before him. He replied absentmindedly, “Oh, favored by the gods? So how can you tell if someone is favored by the gods?”

Todd glanced at Henry Clark a bit awkwardly. Seeing he wasn’t displeased, he continued, “Well… I’ve heard that all god-favored Grand Seers have one trait: they often say things that others think are nonsense, but in the end, it turns out everything they said comes true. So in ancient times, countries would search everywhere for such people—those who seriously said things that only madmen would say!” At the same time, Todd suddenly realized: Henry Clark had spent the past year in the village talking about divine dogs and three-eyed gods—so he was a Grand Seer!

Henry Clark was also jolted—Todd’s description matched the symptoms of delusional schizophrenia as defined on Earth! Henry Clark thought in a daze: So I… am a Grand Seer?

He didn’t have time to think further when suddenly the villagers crowded around. Though the simple villagers didn’t understand the process, they all knew this outsider youth had saved the lives of everyone in the village. They cheered loudly, “Achilles, Achilles…” For the first time in his life, Henry Clark was regarded as a hero by a group of non-psychiatric patients. He felt incredibly happy and became even more convinced in his heart that he was an upright person, a pure person, someone free from lowly interests.

Walter Reed was tightly bound by the villagers while still asleep and thrown into the cellar of Henry Clark’s house. As for the zombies created by the necromancer, they stood motionless in the open space like a bunch of wooden stakes.

According to the customs of Razor Continent, since Walter Reed was Henry Clark’s captive, everything belonging to Walter Reed was Henry Clark’s spoils of war. Mr. Todd used up all the bandages in the village just to barely wrap up all his wounds, and now, looking like a fat mummy, he accompanied Henry Clark to inspect Walter Reed’s belongings.

Henry Clark was holding up a jet-black crystal ball, examining it over and over with great interest. He had never seen anything like it on Earth—black and shiny, cold to the touch, with a dark red aura restlessly swirling inside. Henry Clark turned to the sheriff: “Lord Todd, what exactly is this thing?”

The mummy-like lord shook his head. To him, mages were powerful and mysterious beings, and anything related to them was beyond the understanding and imagination of ordinary people.
