Chapter 15

“Brother, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?” Hearing the sound from Nancy Stewart, Emily Stewart, who had just hung up the phone, hurried over. “Big Brother Carter will be here soon, he’s bringing some food. I’m not going home, I’ll stay here and look after you.”

“It’s nothing, I’m just a bit thirsty. Little sister, could you pour me a glass of water?” Nancy Stewart tried to cover up his moment of lost composure. He still didn’t know if that repair value was real or not—if he said anything, his sister might really think he was losing his mind.

After taking a sip of water, Nancy Stewart signaled that he wanted to rest, and had Emily Stewart turn off the light again. Being a patient had its perks—just say “I’m tired,” and you could immediately enjoy some peace and quiet.

“Should I give it a try?” Nancy Stewart thought to himself. After all, he was basically a wreck right now. If he could recover, that would be best; if not, it didn’t seem like he had much to lose.

“Repair body functions!” Nancy Stewart said in his mind.

[Repairing body functions will deduct 20 repair points. Proceed with repair?] The words in his mind changed.

“Confirm repair!” Nancy Stewart gritted his teeth. Whether it was real or not would be clear after this.

As soon as Nancy Stewart silently confirmed the repair in his mind, he suddenly felt a wave of dizziness, as if his whole body was soaking in warm water. An unprecedented sense of comfort enveloped Nancy Stewart, and in a daze, he actually fell asleep.

He didn’t know how long he slept, but when Nancy Stewart woke up again, daylight was already streaming in from outside. Besides his sister, David Carter was also in the hospital room. The two were talking, and David Carter seemed to be comforting Emily Stewart.

“Mr. Carter, you’re here.” As soon as Nancy Stewart spoke, he startled himself. Last time he woke up, his voice was still hoarse and low, but now his words were full of energy, not at all like a sick patient. Even the burns on his back didn’t seem to hurt as much.

“Bro, you’re finally awake! You scared me to death.” Hearing Nancy Stewart’s voice, David Carter hurried to the bedside. Seeing Nancy Stewart propping himself up as if to get up, David Carter quickly pressed him down. “Don’t move, really, don’t move. I’ll go get the doctor right now.”

“How long did I sleep this time?” Nancy Stewart looked at his sister. Right now, he just felt an empty ache in his stomach. He glanced at the bedside and said, “Little sister, hurry and get me something to eat.”

“Don’t rush, brother. Wait until the doctor comes to check on you.” Emily Stewart shook her head and said, “You slept for more than ten hours. They did another check-up on you this morning, and the doctor said you’re recovering really well.”

“Nonsense, how could I not be?”

Hearing this, Nancy Stewart gave a bitter smile in his heart. Other than feeling hungry and some pain in his back, the rest of his body felt great. His mind was clear, and his strength had returned. He might not be able to run five kilometers just yet, but getting out of bed and walking around like a normal person would be no problem at all.

The doctor arrived quickly and gave Nancy Stewart an ECG. The results showed that Nancy Stewart’s heart rate was very healthy.

This amazed the doctor. Normally, after being in a coma for so long, a patient should be very weak, with a much slower heartbeat and possibly arrhythmia. But none of these typical symptoms appeared in Nancy Stewart.

“The patient is still quite weak. He can eat now, but only liquid foods, and not too much at once. Later, we’ll do a brain CT scan…” The doctor finally gave his conclusion, though he was a bit puzzled. Judging by Nancy Stewart’s complexion, he didn’t look like someone who’d been in a coma for over twenty days—he looked more like a well-rested, robust young man.

“Good thing I didn’t get up.” Nancy Stewart’s mind was very clear. He knew his recovery was probably due to those 20 repair points in his mind, but there was no way to explain that. If he told the truth, he’d probably end up in the psych ward for a mental evaluation instead of getting a brain CT.

“Mr. Carter, I really owe you this time.” After the doctor left, Nancy Stewart looked gratefully at David Carter. He and his sister had no relatives in Luochuan City. If it weren’t for David Carter stepping in, he wouldn’t even know where to get the money for his medical bills.

“What are you saying? Isn’t this what a big brother should do?”

David Carter waved his hand and said, “The electrical wiring in your neighborhood is a huge hazard. Some of those wires are so old they’re falling apart. Those departments are just playing with people’s lives. If you ask me, they’re getting off easy. Bro, don’t worry about anything. Just stay in the hospital and recover. If you run out of money, I’ll go get it for you. Damn it, this time I’ll make sure they pay for what they’ve done.”

“Mr. Carter, that’s enough. Once I recover, I’ll get discharged. Staying in the hospital is uncomfortable anyway. Hey, little sister, bring me the porridge.”

Nancy Stewart felt a bit guilty. He didn’t have the confidence David Carter did. If they really investigated, Nancy Stewart would actually bear a lot of responsibility. The distribution box was just an object—if he hadn’t slipped and crashed into it, none of this would have happened.

“Still, you should wait until you’re fully recovered before leaving the hospital.”
