Chapter 10

The opponent’s character didn’t even have time to make a move and immediately prepared to defend, but when William Clark’s character leaped in front of him, he didn’t throw a punch or a kick—he just landed directly. But at that moment, William Clark’s left hand gave a quick shake, his right hand tapped, and in the game, his character had already grabbed the opponent for a powerful slam. Before the opponent could get up, he leaped into the air, landed, and grabbed the opponent for another slam. Again and again, the opponent didn’t even have a chance to fight back and was directly taken out by William Clark.

“KO!” As the machine let out a loud sound, the area in front of the arcade cabinet instantly fell silent. People who played this game had seen perfect victories before, but never one so clean, so absolute, leaving the opponent with no chance to respond—this had never happened until now.

Not only were the students from Fourth High School stunned, but the three from Second High School were also dumbfounded, completely unaware that the game could even be played like this.

“Yifei…” Brian Cooper swallowed hard, his eyes full of admiration. “You… you really are a master.”

“Just average, third in the world!” William Clark chuckled. It really felt great to shock others like this. In his previous life, no one had ever looked at him this way; he was always the one looking at others with such eyes.

The second round had already begun. The opponent was prepared this time, but somehow William Clark rushed in close again in just a few moves, then unleashed another string of slams. No matter how the opponent worked the joystick or mashed the buttons, he just couldn’t dodge William Clark’s attacks.

And William Clark just played with a calm and relaxed air, moving the joystick unhurriedly and pressing the buttons at just the right moments to grab and slam the opponent every time.

In the third round, it was still the same moves, but the opponent was already completely powerless to resist. This style of play was suffocating, and his fighting spirit was utterly crushed.

“We won! We won!” Jason Reed and Brian Cooper both shouted excitedly. William Clark had finally helped them vent the frustration they’d been holding in.

“Want to go again?” William Clark asked David Parker, the chubby guy, with a beaming smile.

David Parker opened his mouth but said nothing. He had seen William Clark’s playstyle clearly just now and felt that no matter which character he picked, he probably couldn’t break William Clark’s chain-throw technique.

At this point, Jason Reed also felt full of confidence. He snorted coldly and said, “Exactly! You’d better go back to Second High and show off there. Remember, this is Fourth High, not a place for you to run wild.”

The three from the other side all looked extremely embarrassed, but knowing they had no chance of winning if they kept playing, they quickly slunk away without even a parting word.

A group of Fourth High students were all in high spirits. To have a competition break out while playing games was a rare event back then, unlike later on when e-sports became a large-scale team activity.

William Clark was also being looked at like a hero by everyone, and he couldn’t help but feel a little elated. Still, having lived for over thirty years, he managed to keep his composure and smiled, “Alright, we’ve vented our anger. Let’s go.”

At this point, William Clark’s words clearly carried some weight. Brian Cooper and Jason Reed both followed him out. Jason Reed was even more direct, saying, “William Clark, I really admire you. This time you didn’t let me lose face. I owe you one. If you ever need anything, just come to me. I can’t promise anything elsewhere, but at Fourth High, as long as you mention my name, I’d like to see who dares mess with you.”

William Clark smiled and said, “Heh, you’re too polite. We’re all classmates at Fourth High. We can’t let others look down on us.”

Jason Reed gave William Clark a hard slap on the shoulder and said, “Well said! I’m definitely making you my friend. I have something to do today, so I’ll head off first. When we have time, let’s get together again.”

A thought stirred in William Clark’s heart. The fact that Jason Reed had gotten into several fights in high school without being expelled clearly meant his family had some influence. Now that he’d been reborn, he was determined to accomplish something. Without help, even with more than ten years of extra experience, things would still be tough. Jason Reed was actually a pretty good ally. If he could make use of him and his family’s connections, it would definitely be a big help.

With years of experience, he already knew how important connections were to a person’s success. Naturally, he had to be selective in making friends. Friends like Brian Cooper, who were loyal to the core, he would never give up on even if they couldn’t help him. But friends like Jason Reed, he definitely had to make as well.

Back in his unreformed high school days, he had wanted to be friends with Jason Reed, but mostly because of Jason Reed’s toughness. It was a matter of pride to follow him around. Now, that kind of vanity was long gone, and he made friends with a much cooler head.

Chapter 008 Sweet Secret Crush

All the way, Brian Cooper looked at William Clark with eyes full of worship, making William Clark break out in goosebumps. He quickly took the initiative to teach him a few combo techniques, and after Brian Cooper memorized them, he ran off to the arcade laughing.
