Chapter 10

However, the pretty girl next to Emily Lincoln looked at me curiously, reached out her hand and smiled, saying, “You must be the David Thompson that 婉儿 always talks about, right? She’s told me everything. I’m her roommate, May Easton. Nice to meet you!”

I reached out to shake her hand, nodded, and smiled, “Hello, Easton.”

“How old are you, David?” May Easton suddenly asked.

I shuddered, “Twenty-one…”

“You don’t look it, though, do you?” She grinned mischievously, tilting her head as she continued to look at me.

I clenched my fist, “Fine, twenty-three then…”

“No way, you must be here to drop your kid off at school…”

May Easton was about to tease me further, but Emily Lincoln laughed and said, “Alright, Little May, stop teasing him. What’s so fun about picking on this quiet guy? Let’s hurry up and eat, get ready early. The Destiny server opens tomorrow at noon, and we have to go for the top spot on the level rankings!”

May Easton giggled, “Okay, but I really think David Thompson is quite interesting…”

I gave an awkward smile, “You flatter me, Easton. So, which restaurant are we going to?”

“Number 1!”

“Alright.”

……

The two pretty girls walked ahead, chatting animatedly about the school, their faces glowing with laughter and joy. Emily Lincoln finally showed a radiant smile, and as I watched from the side, I couldn’t help but think to myself how beautiful she looked when she smiled.

At Restaurant No. 1, at a four-person table, Emily Lincoln and May Easton sat across from me, while I sat alone on one side. The two girls ordered Western food, while I got two servings of egg fried rice and a bowl of crab roe soup. Since Emily Lincoln took out a golden card to pay for the meal, well, as a bodyguard, tagging along for a free meal was truly a happy thing. As for my monthly salary, I could save it up and hopefully buy three helmets soon, so that Little Wolf, Old K, and Fox could join the game and we could rebuild the Zhanlong Studio and reach new heights!

Ahem, actually, Zhanlong Studio never really had any glory to begin with…

“David~” May Easton looked at me and said with a smile, “I heard from Emily that you also have a gaming helmet, and you’ll be accompanying her in Destiny, right?”

I nodded, “Yeah, mine is helmet number 000747, a pretty early number.”

Emily Lincoln pouted, “My dad had someone line up all night to get that number, of course it’s early. The helmet was originally meant as a gift for someone else, but they bought their own, so you got lucky!”

May Easton smiled and asked, “David, have you played games before?”

I did a quick calculation and said, “Back in 2014, didn’t a new game come out called Conquest with 27% realism? I played Conquest.”

“Oh?” May Easton widened her beautiful eyes and smiled, “I played Conquest too! What was your name in the game, and what was your ranking on the Battle.net server?”

I said proudly, “Forget the ID, I can barely remember it myself. My Battle.net ranking was 3,970,000!”

May Easton burst out laughing, “As far as I know, there were only about 5 million active players in all of Conquest, so you were in the lower-middle tier?”

I nodded, “Pretty much…”

A look of despair appeared on Emily Lincoln’s beautiful face. “Uh, so… the VIP helmet I gave you is basically wasted? What a pity…”

May Easton gently bumped Emily Lincoln’s shoulder with a smile and said, “Everyone has their pride, you know. Don’t say that… So, David, since we’ll be playing Destiny together, what’s your plan? There are five races and nine classes—what are you thinking of picking?”

I was at a loss, “Uh, I haven’t looked at the game info yet.”

Emily Lincoln was exasperated, “You haven’t even read the info, and you still had the nerve to accept my helmet…”

I squinted at my beautiful employer and smiled, “It’s no big deal. Once I’m in the game, I’ll see the options and know what to pick. Easton, why don’t you tell me about the races and classes?”

May Easton was definitely a hardcore gamer, and she listed them off like treasures: “The five races are Human, Wind Elf, Barbarian, Undead, and Moon Spirit. Barbarians have the highest strength growth, Wind Elves have the highest ranged attack growth, Moon Spirits are best at endurance battles, Undead get +15% melee attack growth and are the most sneaky, and Humans are the most balanced, suitable for any class.”

I nodded, “What about the classes?”

May Easton blinked and smiled, “The nine classes are Swordsman, Spirit Mage, Berserker, Knight, Assassin, Wandering Healer, Gunner, Archer, and Monk. As the names suggest, since you’ve played games before, you should know their characteristics. By the way, I haven’t asked—which race and class do you want to pick?”

I took a deep breath and said, “Simple, I want to pick a support class, preferably one that can heal… the Wandering Healer, right? Is that the so-called ‘milk’ class?”

May Easton giggled, “Yep, the Wandering Healer is the only healing class, so it’ll definitely be in high demand. I thought you’d pick Swordsman, Knight, or Berserker. I heard the cocky guys in our class are all going for those violent classes.”

Then, May Easton gave Emily Lincoln a mischievous look and said, “Emily, a man who’s willing to pick Wandering Healer for you—you should just marry him…”
