Chapter 7

Steven Scott glanced somewhat strangely at Xuantian Sect, who was still able to laugh, then continued, “There was a serious internal conflict within the Holy Demon Hall. Taking advantage of the moment when Richard Quinn was gravely injured after his battle with the Patriarch, the Vice Hall Master Charles Goodwin actually killed him, attempting to seize power for himself. Senior Brother Eric Longman somehow got wind of this news and immediately informed many of our Linmen Sword Sect elders. So, a group of us stormed the Holy Demon Hall together. While the Hall was weakened by infighting, at the main altar on the First Sacred Peak, we finally killed the greatest enemy of the Linmen Sword Sect—the demon who caused our sect’s destruction—in one decisive blow…”

At this point, his tone paused slightly. “The only regret is about Uncle Master Olivia Lincoln. Until her death, it seemed Uncle Master Olivia Lincoln was unwilling to believe that David Foster had truly fallen and become a demon. So much so that, at the very moment when Sect Master Samuel Lincoln struck down David Foster, she actually used her own life to block the next sword for David Foster…”

“Miss Olivia Lincoln, she actually did that for such a demon…”

“This David Foster truly deserved to die a thousand deaths. It’s one thing for him to die, but to drag Miss Olivia Lincoln down with him—I really feel it was not worth it for her…”

“These are all things of the past. As for what happened on the Sacred Peak, there’s never been a clear account. We shouldn’t judge rashly. At that time, who could really say what was right or wrong… Besides, this was also Uncle Master Olivia Lincoln’s own choice.”

“Her own choice?”

Emily Grant was puzzled and looked toward Hannah Grant.

But Hannah Grant only shook her head slightly.

“What is love in this world, that it makes people pledge life and death to each other?”

Chapter Four: No Separation

Night fell.

With Hannah Grant and Steven Scott, both at least ninth-rank martial artists, escorting them, Brian Carter and the others were able to enjoy a rare, relatively relaxed night.

They even dared to light a campfire outside while resting, driving away a bit of the chill in this land where the temperature difference between day and night was extreme.

After eating a little something, all the passengers in the carriage went to rest.

Yet, even in this relatively safe area of a wilderness full of unknown magical beasts, everyone still felt on edge. Not to mention the young men and women like Emily Grant and William Mason who were leaving the city for the first time—even Hannah Grant, who ranked among the top ten outer disciples of the Linmen Sword Sect, kept her eyes closed but her mind alert, always paying attention to every movement outside. At the slightest sign of trouble, she could immediately snap out of her meditative state and enter full combat readiness.

Looking around…

In the entire small camp, the only one sleeping soundly was the man in green named Xuantian Sect.

Unable to fall asleep for a long time, Emily Grant secretly glanced at him more than once, feeling rather unsettled in her heart, wondering how he could sleep so peacefully in such a desolate wilderness.

“This young master Xuantian Sect really has nerves of steel, far beyond what ordinary people can match.”

Hannah Grant looked at Xuantian Sect, whose breathing was steady and who seemed completely unconcerned about any danger, and spoke softly, her tone carrying a hint of something unusual.

She really didn’t know whether to call him thick-skinned or just incredibly skilled and fearless.

“To be able to sleep in the wilderness like this, I really don’t know how someone like him has survived until now.”

Already feeling a bit unbalanced, Emily Grant muttered quietly at this moment.

Meanwhile, the guards traveling with Brian Carter exchanged glances, secretly amazed at Xuantian Sect’s courage, but also couldn’t help but feel a bit suspicious: “Can a martial artist with not even the most basic sense of vigilance really become someone qualified to roam the wilderness?”

The night passed quickly.

During this time, aside from a seventh-rank magical beast wandering nearby, nothing dangerous happened. After all, they were close to the territory of the First Sword Sect, Linmen Sword Sect, so the threat level from magical beasts was much lower than elsewhere.

As for that seventh-rank magical beast…

There was no need for Hannah Grant to act; just Steven Scott, Brian Carter, and the others were more than enough to kill it.

The only thing that left the guards feeling a bit disgruntled was that the arrival of the seventh-rank magical beast had alarmed the whole camp, yet Xuantian Sect didn’t even seem to open his eyes, as if he were dead to the world.

This reaction made the guards who hadn’t collected a travel fee from Xuantian Sect consider bringing up the matter again. If it weren’t for Brian Carter holding them back, they probably would have already demanded payment from Xuantian Sect.

“Master Xuantian Sect, did you sleep well last night?”

Hannah Grant was clearly intrigued by this man with the unusual name and what was undoubtedly a treasured sword. A whole night hadn’t lessened her interest; if anything, it had only grown stronger.

“Hmph, he slept so soundly last night he didn’t even notice the magical beast’s arrival. He must have slept very comfortably. Poor big brothers, the guards, lost half a night’s sleep because of it.”

Before Xuantian Sect could reply, Emily Grant had already answered with some dissatisfaction.
