Book One: The Human World, Volume One
Prologue
2046, third month of the lunar calendar, Jingzhe (the Waking of Insects).
A golden radiance suddenly flares, and a bright full moon slowly rises, like a dazzling blaze of ten thousand flames, burning away the surrounding darkness.
A woman leisurely emerges from the darkness, her soft black robe flowing like waves, revealing a pair of flawless, snow-white bare feet.
"You have finally appeared, the greatest sage in the universe." The woman speaks to the bright moon, her voice cold and emotionless, yet filled with a strange, magnetic allure that intoxicates and bewilders.
The moon begins to ripple like water, a slender crack appearing at its center, slowly widening, as if a mouth is opening, emitting a bewitching light: "Who is it that has awakened me from my slumber?"
"It is I, Grace Carter, someone who wishes to change the world."
Brilliant light flickers in the woman's sea-blue eyes. A drop of crimson blood splashes from her fingertip. She gracefully spreads her arms, silver hair flying, like a legendary, stunning goddess, drifting toward the full moon.
Chapter One: The Cursed Shall Die
2046, Hong Kong.
This is a magical, elfin hand. Pale, slender fingers dance at dizzying speed across the black and white piano keys, sending out powerful, moving notes like bursting fireworks, passing through the colorful lights, surging with passion among the twisting bodies of men and women at the Blue Moon Bar at one in the morning.
The other hand is also busy, caressing the thigh of the beautiful woman leaning against the piano—the stunning bar owner, Alice—tapping a rhythm lightly on her silky skin.
Alice is dressed in a low-cut, tight red top, a black lace miniskirt hugging her shapely hips, her sexy lips half-parted, lazily watching the young man at the piano, his left hand playing, his right hand not idle either.
Suddenly, Alice bites the young man's ear and calls out sweetly, "Ethan, don't leave tonight, okay?"
The young man lifts his head and smiles, shaking it gently. He is handsome, dressed in luxury, his skin pale, with a delicate, almost feminine softness.
A trace of disappointment flashes across Alice's face. She pouts, "I was overestimating myself. How could the famous second son of the Feng family, one of Hong Kong's four great families, Ethan Brooks, ever fancy an ordinary bar owner like me?"
Ethan Brooks frowns slightly and sighs, "Alice, you know I've never thought our Feng family is anything special. The so-called four great families are just triad organizations."
Alice shakes her head. "Who cares if it's the underworld or not? As long as there's money and power, that's all that matters. If it weren't for your reputation, Ethan Brooks, my Blue Moon Bar would have closed down long ago."
"My reputation is useless. I never get involved in family affairs, and I have no interest in all that fighting and killing."
"I heard your older brother, Henry Brooks, is already quite famous in the underworld. Don't blame me for warning you—even though he's your father's adopted son, who knows, maybe one day the Feng family's business will be swallowed up by this outsider."
Ethan Brooks pats Alice's shapely hip, unconcerned. "Don't talk nonsense. Although my brother and I don't always see eye to eye, we've always had a good relationship. Besides, I've never cared about the family's business. Only music is my life."
Alice lets out a long sigh. Ethan Brooks plays a stream of beautiful notes on the keys. "I'm going to compete in the Chopin Piano Competition in Poland next month. How could I have time for such boring things?"
Alice's eyes are sultry as she presses her ample chest against his arm, her voice coy. "Is keeping me company also a boring thing? I'm really lonely, you know."
With a loud bang, the bar's door is violently kicked open. More than a dozen men in black suits rush in, all looking anxious and flustered. "Second Young Master, something terrible has happened!"
Ethan Brooks is slightly startled. "What happened?"
The leading man wipes the sweat from his forehead, stammering, "The master... the master has passed away!"
"What?"
Ethan Brooks's whole body trembles. The spinning lights on the ceiling cast over his face, leaving not a trace of color.
The Feng residence is a luxurious villa in Clear Water Bay, backed by mountains and facing the sea, exuding grandeur. The villa is surrounded by bodyguards in black suits, patrolling back and forth.
