Chapter 3

Although in one's own home, family members may have some minor faults, and sometimes there are quarrels and fights, it's still home after all...

...

...

Outside the window, in a room directly facing the living room window of Brian Carter's home, the space had been set up as a simple studio.

A short-haired woman in a casual suit was observing Brian Carter's room through a telescope.

Through the lens of the telescope, one could see that in the empty room, Brian Carter was sitting alone on a chair eating. Clearly, he was the only one sitting there, but the room seemed to be experiencing an earthquake—tables and chairs were overturned, the chandelier swayed constantly, and from time to time, white flower-shaped cracks appeared on the window glass, as if something was hitting it.

"The telekinesis of Observer No. 13 of the psychic mutation has appeared."

Beside her, two young men in smart work attire—one was calculating rapidly, the other was taking notes.

"Does he have the potential to be recruited?"

"How big is the potential threat?"

"What exactly is his ability?"

The short-haired woman shook her head and said, "It's still unclear. He's not like other psychic mutants who show strong mutation forms early on, such as being able to enter others' dreams or unintentionally releasing psychic plagues, etc. He seems very normal, goes to and from work every day just fine, and can even handle his job very well, but his mind occasionally becomes disordered."

"Sounds like he has a lot of potential and is easy to guide."

Behind them, a man with a somewhat stern face said, "Have you tried letting a Dreamweaver enter his dream for evaluation?"

"Yes!"

The short-haired woman in the red suit nodded slightly and said, "But after that Dreamweaver entered his dream, they never came out again."

Chapter Two: Corner Café

Even during the day, the office was lit with a harsh white light.

One partition after another divided most of the office into little cubicles. In the center of each cubicle was an offline desktop computer and a telephone. Everyone was busy, walking back and forth—some typing, some making calls, some exchanging documents. Brian Carter's workstation was right in the middle, with a "Best Employee" banner hanging on the partition.

The busy work of the morning had already been handled. Brian Carter straightened up and massaged his temples.

After staying in this kind of environment for a long time, one always felt stifled and oppressed, not to mention there were always so many trivial things to deal with.

"Brother Lu, are you busy right now?"

A voice sounded beside Brian Carter. Brian Carter looked up and saw it was the new young guy in the office, William Grant. He was well-dressed, with neat short hair and a sunny disposition, but at this moment he wore a troubled expression and said, "The director asked me to organize this batch of documents, but no matter how I try, I just can't get them sorted out. Time is running out. Brother Lu, could you... could you teach me?"

"Sure."

Brian Carter agreed with a smile. "I happen to be free right now."

"Thank you, Brother Lu! You're really the best!"

The sunny young man looked grateful and hurried over to Brian Carter's desk. One taught, the other learned.

From the surrounding cubicles, many dissatisfied glances were cast over, along with some very low whispers.

"It's already exhausting to do your own work, and you still have to teach others."

"Everyone has the same job. Aren't you afraid that if you teach others, you'll get kicked out yourself?"

"..."

Under many dissatisfied gazes, Brian Carter helped William Grant organize the documents and waved his hand in response to the other's thanks.

Even though everyone was tense in this oppressive office atmosphere, Brian Carter always had his own principles in doing things. If he could help someone, he would. The Red Moon incident changed the world, but one still had to have character.

"Brian Carter, come over here, The Director wants to see you!"

Someone called out from afar.

"Coming!"

Brian Carter put down his coffee and got up to walk to The Director's office. There, he saw the director, so fat that his cheeks drooped on both sides, and on the sofa opposite sat a short-haired woman in a well-fitted suit and sunglasses.

"Xiao Lu, here's a document. Please deliver it to the corner café on Qingjiang Road for me!"

The Director didn't waste words and pointed at the file folder on the desk.

Delivering documents should be done by the admin or errands team, not by him.

But Brian Carter didn't refuse, nodding, "Okay."

Then he picked up the file, nodded to both The Director and the short-haired woman on the sofa, and left.

As soon as he left the room, The Director immediately put on a smiling face and eagerly said to the short-haired woman, "Chief Brooks, the matter you mentioned has been taken care of. Rest assured, I won't ask more or think more. It's just about that project you mentioned earlier..."

"Don't worry, that project will not be given to you!"

The short-haired woman stood up, gently pulled down her sunglasses, and spoke in a very gentle voice.

The Director was stunned for a moment, thinking he had misheard, and then at that moment, he saw the woman's pupils.

Her pupils seemed to be spinning, faintly red, as if they had turned into two red moons.
