Chapter 10

As soon as he saw Sarah Harper carrying Ryan Carter on her back, he felt as disgusted as if he had swallowed a fly, wishing he could blast that fool into pieces.

“We went to Medicine Mountain to look for some herbs. On the way, we saw someone attacking Ryan Carter. He was injured, so we brought him back first…” Sarah Harper had never called Brian Foster “big brother.” She gave a simple explanation and was about to pass by Brian Foster and his group, not intending to say another word.

“How interesting. Who would bother to attack a fool?” Brian Foster said with a dark face, raising his voice: “You look like you’re struggling to carry him. Let me help you take this fool back!”

With that, without waiting for Sarah Harper to respond, Brian Foster flashed over to her side and, without asking, reached out to pull Ryan Carter.

With his eyes closed, Ryan Carter sneered inwardly. When Brian Foster made his move, he even leaned into him with a bit of extra force.

“Ugh—ah!”

After Brian Foster got Ryan Carter onto himself, he immediately let out a miserable scream.

He had never expected Ryan Carter to be so heavy. It felt as if a mountain had suddenly crashed down on him. Caught off guard, Brian Foster fell so hard he was dizzy, his fine clothes covered in dust, looking utterly disheveled.

Kevin Foster and the martial artists nearby, all arranged by Matthew Foster, knew Brian Foster’s skills. They had been grinning, ready to watch a joke, but now they suddenly fell silent.

“No need for your help.” Sarah Harper, quick and sharp, hurriedly picked Ryan Carter back up while Brian Foster was still dazed. She exchanged a glance with Emily Harper, and the two sisters quickly stepped past the crowd and left.

“Big brother, what was that all about?” After a moment, Kevin Foster asked in astonishment.

Brian Foster finally came to his senses and looked into the distance at the receding figures of Sarah Harper and the Ryan Carter on her back. Suddenly, he shouted, “That fool is ridiculously heavy! He must have something extremely weighty on him! For five years, that fool has been in the Medicine Mountain mine—could he have found something? That must be it! Otherwise, the The Harper Family sisters wouldn’t be so attentive! There must be a treasure on that fool!”

At these words, Kevin Foster and the surrounding martial artists were even more surprised.

Chapter 5: Soul Suppressing Pearl

“Whew!”

Sarah Harper let out a heavy sigh and wearily placed Ryan Carter on the bed, her limpid eyes full of doubt.

This was the stone house where Ryan Carter had lived for years. There were three rooms in total; one empty room had belonged to David Carter, and another was a washroom.

In The Harper Family Town, such stone houses were very common. Most of the martial artists in The Harper Family Town lived in similar houses.

This stone room of Ryan Carter’s had only a stone table, two stone stools, and a wooden bed—nothing else for furniture.

“Big sis, what was up with that Brian Foster just now? I heard that jerk has been running to Ice Rock City a lot lately. Has he worn himself out with wine and women? How could he not even carry this fool?” Emily Harper asked in confusion.

After putting down Ryan Carter, Sarah Harper carefully checked him over. Seeing the green palm print on his chest gradually fade, she placed her slender fingers under his nose for a moment and found his breathing steady and strong. Only then did Sarah Harper relax and say, “He should be fine. The injury on his chest should heal in a couple of days. Let’s go back for now.”

Emily Harper didn’t want to stay here for even a second. Hearing this, she immediately got up, and Sarah Harper followed right after. Just before leaving the stone room, she turned back and took a deep look at the still-unconscious Ryan Carter.

……

A long time later, Ryan Carter suddenly sat up from the bed. After closing all the doors, he returned to the bed.

In the dim room, Ryan Carter’s eyes shone brightly. If you looked closely, it seemed as if streaks of electricity flashed through his pupils, making him look extremely strange and mysterious.

“Zzzzt zzzzt!”

The sound of lightning crackling gradually came from within his body. At this moment, a terrifying aura emanated from him.

Just as the aura reached its peak, a faint ghostly light appeared between his brows, and a pitch-black bead the size of a fava bean emerged from his forehead.

The bead was as black as ink and shone with a ghostly luster. At first glance, it looked as if a third eye had appeared between his brows.

Focusing his mind, Ryan Carter let out a roar in his heart, his expression twisted as he tried to break through the seal inside the bead.

“Boom!”

His spiritual consciousness rushed into the seal, as if slamming into an invisible barrier. His head suddenly throbbed with pain, and his mental strength slackened.

The aura he had painstakingly built up instantly vanished. Exhausted, he leaned against the wall and sighed, “Still no use.”

Two years ago, after being awakened by David Carter, he had tried to break the memory seal of the Soul Suppressing Pearl, but failed just as he did today.

After two years, feeling his strength had greatly increased, he thought he might have a chance to break the seal. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as he hoped, and he failed once again.

During five years of “Heavenly Thunder Tribulation” cultivation, he had long since forged a tenacious will, so he wasn’t too discouraged. He quickly calmed down and began to think carefully about today’s events.

“Who exactly is trying to kill me? My grandfather’s enemy?”

Because ten years of his memories were sealed, and David Carter had never told him much about his identity or background, he had no way to find the answer.

“No matter who it is, it seems that for the foreseeable future, I can’t keep cultivating in a state of emptiness and detachment. Otherwise, if that person strikes again, it might be a fatal blow.”

……

“Is Ryan Carter alright?” In the The Harper Family main hall, the head of the The Harper Family asked his two daughters, with Robert Harper standing by.
