Chapter 2

After all, of course his parents had high hopes for this little shop, even saying that if he didn’t achieve anything in the future, he could inherit it. But ever since his parents passed away, he hadn’t opened it even once, and now he was about to sublet it. Brian Cooper felt a bit agitated, reaching out to push the photo even farther away.

Lying on the bed, he glanced at the darkening sky outside the window, closed his eyes to clear his mind, apparently planning to just sleep through the night.

“Beep beep, host’s mental state stable, suitable for binding, binding initiated, binding complete.”

A strange electronic voice suddenly sounded in his mind. Brian Cooper opened his eyes; his face was still expressionless, but his eyes were full of surprise.

“System?” Brian Cooper couldn’t help but mutter softly.

“Host, I am here.” A serious, cold electronic voice responded in Brian Cooper’s mind.

“Huh?” Now he was truly stunned.

“What the heck is this?” Brian Cooper began to look around at everything in the room, trying to find the source of the voice, or anything different from yesterday.

Of course, in the end, aside from the lunchbox left over from lunch still obediently lying in the trash can, there was nothing new in the room.

“No need to search, host. This system is bound to the back of your head…” As soon as the electronic voice mentioned the back of his head, Brian Cooper moved with lightning speed, reaching to feel the back of his head, carefully checking several times, only to find that there was nothing there—not even a bump.

The cold electronic voice continued, “By means invisible to the naked eye, microscope, or any other method, this system is the God of Cooking System. The host meets the requirements. The first mission will now be activated.”

“Wait, wait, what system?” Brian Cooper, realizing the search was fruitless, sat calmly back on his bed and asked.

“The God of Cooking System. To conserve energy, this system’s explanations will appear as text in your mind. Just focus to view them.” The cold electronic voice disappeared completely.

[Mission]……

Chapter Two: The First Mission

There was no time to check what the mission was, or anything else. Brian Cooper first excitedly stood up and walked around the room twice, only to realize how silly that was, then sat back down, fiddling with his phone, turning it on and off so much that the phone could barely take it.

Countless thoughts flashed through his mind, but they could all be summed up in one sentence: “God of Cooking System? Am I about to reach the peak of my life?”

You have to know, this little shop was the result of his parents’ decades of hard work. But after less than two years, they died in a traffic accident while restocking supplies. That year, he was a junior in college. Suddenly going from having both parents to being an orphan, he had an emotional breakdown and couldn’t focus on his studies, so he had to take a leave of absence. A year later, he barely managed to get his diploma.

In this bustling city, with such a degree, it was impossible to find a good job. In the end, he could only work as a kitchen helper in a big restaurant. At first, he wanted to learn cooking well and continue his father’s dream, but it turned out that even cooking required talent.

After two years, he was still just average. Coincidentally, someone took a liking to this shabby shop. Disappointment was one reason, and wanting to escape the shadow of his parents’ death was another. That’s why Brian Cooper decided to quit his job and go somewhere else to start a new life.

Could this system be his turning point and hope? Thinking of this, Brian Cooper clicked on the initial mission with an indescribable feeling.

[Mission] Own a shop of your own

(Mission hint: As a future God of Cooking, how can you not even have your own shop? Young man, go for it.)

“What kind of hint is that? What’s with this hint, is the system messing with me?” Brian Cooper, feeling excited, clicked on the mission and immediately saw the words in parentheses, unable to resist complaining.

“A shop of my own? Looks like it’s fate.” Looking at the mission, Brian Cooper felt a bit emotional.

Maybe this was also his parents’ wish, not wanting him to leave.

All sorts of thoughts finally turned into determination. Brian Cooper picked up the phone on the table, swiped to the contacts, found Emily Thompson, hesitated for a moment, and dialed.

After three rings, the call was answered:

“Hello, this is Emily Thompson.” A light, gentle female voice came from the other end.

“Um… hello, I’m Brian Cooper, the owner of the shop at 14 Taoxi Road.”

Brian Cooper had only met this female customer who wanted to rent the shop once. She had delicate features, her long hair neatly tied into a bun, and wore a smart business suit. To be honest, he didn’t even know why she wanted to rent the place without even looking inside, and she didn’t even haggle over the price. Now that he was about to back out, he couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed.
