Three feet above your head, there are gods
Fear not what others know, but what you yourself know
I know
Whatever the gods can see, I can see too. So-called gods are nothing more than...
Chapter 1: What Is This That I See
Jianghai City.
The afterglow of the sunset gradually faded, and the streetlights had just come on. On the seventh floor of the Jianghai University Entrepreneurship Building, David Thompson, who had been unconscious for an unknown amount of time, instinctively groped around the bedside.
He finally found his phone, but even after several attempts, he couldn't muster the strength to pick it up.
Just those few movements to grab the phone left him gasping for breath, as if he had just recovered from a serious illness.
What happened to me?
For a moment, David Thompson was confused. He had always been in great health; otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to do extreme sports or go on frequent outdoor adventures. His physical fitness was definitely among the best at school.
Although it had been almost a year since graduation and he had been busy with company matters, and hadn't traveled or challenged himself recently, it shouldn't be possible that just one night of drinking would leave him like this.
After all, he was a top student who had just graduated from the Inspection University not long ago.
Taking deep breaths to recover a bit, David Thompson finally picked up his phone. The battery was already in the red, only five percent left. You should know, David Thompson's phone had a long standby time, and there was an extra battery built into the phone case.
With light use, it could last three or four days without issue...
"September... eighth?"
David Thompson stared at the date on his phone, bewildered. His memory was still stuck on September fifth, when he had drinks with a junior manager from a travel website and came back... After coming back...
In a daze, it seemed like...
Suddenly, David Thompson remembered that his roommate—who was also his business partner and best friend—seemed to have come back. What did he say?
David Thompson tried desperately to recall, but couldn't remember what that guy had said. The more he tried, the more his head throbbed...
He fumbled to plug in his phone to charge, then lay quietly for a while. Before he knew it, he drifted off again, not sure if he was asleep or had passed out.
But when he woke up again, he felt a bit better. David Thompson immediately forced himself to get up. He knew he couldn't go on like this; he had to eat something right away. If that didn't help, he'd have to go to the hospital.
Sure enough, when he reached for his phone again, it was fully charged. He realized that his dazed sleep had lasted several hours, showing just how weak his body was.
Fortunately, he had plenty of chocolate, energy bars, and similar things in his room.
He ate for over half an hour. Looking at the pile of wrappers on the floor—enough to feed seven or eight athletes after intense training—David Thompson was shocked at himself. What was wrong with his body?
Even now, he only felt half full, and still a bit weak.
He hurried to the mirror and found that he had lost a lot of weight—like someone bedridden for months after a serious illness. His clothes were much looser, his height unchanged, but he must have lost dozens of pounds.
He still didn't know what was wrong with his body, but eating only chocolate, energy bars, and compressed biscuits was torture. Now that he felt a bit better, David Thompson got up and went downstairs.
Just walking down from the seventh floor left him drenched in sweat. On the way, a few underclassmen from the entrepreneurship building saw him and thought he was sick.
Luckily, there weren't any close acquaintances around, or they would have dragged him to the hospital immediately.
These two seven-story walk-up buildings were provided by Jianghai University a few years ago for students starting their own businesses. They could use them to register companies and start their own ventures.
You could get two or three years of free rent here, plus some support.
David Thompson was a student at the nearby Jianghai Inspection University, and Brian Carter was from Jianghai University. The two met because they both liked traveling. In their junior year, they started a travel company here. Both loved travel and adventure, and saw potential in the RV travel market. Of course, they couldn't afford to buy a lot of RVs, but they could connect with people who owned them—after all, many people hardly used their RVs after buying them.
They made use of other people's idle RVs to run an RV travel rental business, and also cooperated with other RV travel companies to help connect business.
Although they didn't make the company big or strong, over the past two years, David Thompson and Brian Carter earned enough to cover their tuition and living expenses. Things were looking good, and they had dreamed of a big leap and major development after graduation. For this, David Thompson even gave up taking the inspection exam.
Who would have thought that Brian Carter turned out to be unreliable? He hadn't seen him more than a few times in the past year.
With the travel industry in a slump lately, the company was struggling. David Thompson was even considering taking the inspection exam and getting a government job.
This was the outermost area by the north gate of Jianghai University, with a snack street at the entrance. With his mind in a mess, David Thompson started eating.
Jianghai University had over thirty thousand students, plus teachers and family housing nearby. Over time, many different commercial areas had sprung up around the university, and the snack street was one of them.
It was the busiest time now. As David Thompson walked along, he grabbed a few portions of whatever food he saw.
