Chapter 2

After a while.

“Sigh, to think that I was once a respected Immortal Lord, yet now, having returned to my youth, I am unable to change my family’s fate. Is Heaven deliberately toying with me…? If only I had gone back just one more month, it wouldn’t be like this…”

William Harper heard Grace Bennett’s sigh, very faint—an ordinary person wouldn’t have caught it at all.

Returned to her youth?

Rebirth?

And… Immortal Lord?

William Harper’s heart trembled. Having been reincarnated for so long, he had heard many legends of immortals and gods, but never of true rebirth. The way the other spoke, so serious—could it be real?

He didn’t dare to gamble. After all, he himself was a reincarnated soul; meeting someone reborn wasn’t so strange.

Whenever he thought of the Fang family being wiped out, his heart felt stifled. His parents in this life treated him extremely well, and so did his uncles. He was very fond of the Fang household and didn’t want to see it destroyed.

After that, Grace Bennett stopped talking to herself, and the room fell into silence. After hesitating for a moment, William Harper forcibly opened the window and jumped inside.

Grace Bennett wasn’t startled by him; she simply sat calmly at the table, looking at him.

She wore a blue dress, her makeup was exquisite, her hair slightly disheveled, yet she still appeared dignified and elegant, maintaining the bearing of a noble lady.

The two stared at each other, and for a moment, the room was enveloped in silence.

“Your skills are impressive—I didn’t notice you at all. Who are you?” Grace Bennett broke the silence and asked.

Upon hearing this, William Harper secretly clenched his right hand inside his sleeve.

Am I really that unnoticeable in the Fang household?

Well, he had indeed kept a low profile for the past sixteen years, far less talented or flamboyant than his brothers.

William Harper said, “My name is William Harper, my father is Edward Harper.”

Grace Bennett narrowed her eyes and asked coldly, “How long have you been here?”

“I heard you visited my uncles, claiming the Fang family faces the threat of annihilation. I came with a ‘better safe than sorry’ mindset, but this is a grave matter, so I couldn’t fully believe it.” William Harper didn’t answer her question, instead steering the conversation toward the threat of extermination.

Grace Bennett frowned. She had intended to drive William Harper away, but considering his skills, he could be a great help.

Even though she was an Immortal Lord in her previous life, now reborn, her body was even weaker than an ordinary mortal’s. With only seven days, there was no way she could avert the massacre of the Fang family on her own.

“Did you overhear anything just now?” Grace Bennett stared at William Harper and asked. She realized she had been careless, but could only blame herself—first, for not knowing enough about the Fang family’s experts in her previous life, and second, for being unsettled after her rebirth.

In her previous life, the Fang family was slaughtered overnight, with only her and a few others escaping. So subconsciously, she believed there were no experts in the Fang household, which was why she spoke to herself in her room, venting her frustrations.

William Harper was silent for a moment, then decided to go all in. After all, this concerned the Fang family’s survival. He said, “You said you’re someone reborn. I’m willing to try believing you. Since you’re an immortal reborn, you must have immortal arts in your mind. I don’t ask you to demonstrate them, but you can teach me just one technique. I have my own way to verify its authenticity. If it’s real, then I’ll believe you and work with you to change the Fang family’s fate. After all, I am a Fang too.”

In his mind, there was a heavenly palace. He discovered it the first time he practiced internal energy. Once he began cultivating internal energy or martial arts, his consciousness would enter the heavenly palace, where he could go without eating or drinking until he had mastered those supreme skills to perfection. Only then could his consciousness leave the palace and return to reality.

No matter how long he spent in the heavenly palace, only an instant would pass in the real world.

This was why he could reach the legendary martial arts realm at the age of sixteen.

Grace Bennett frowned, staring intently at William Harper, a cold glint flickering in her eyes. She didn’t speak immediately.

William Harper wasn’t in a hurry either. He sat down at the table across from her, patiently waiting for her answer.

Sigh, he had planned to quietly master some skills, then roam the martial world and live a carefree life. Who would have thought he’d run into something like this?

William Harper was in a bad mood too, but fortunately, his martial arts allowed him to stay calm.

Outside the window, the setting sun gradually sank, its afterglow as red as blood—a scene of tragic beauty.

Grace Bennett broke the silence and asked, “Why do I need your trust? You’re just a third-generation member, you have no say.”

William Harper replied calmly, “But you have no other options now. If you can gain my trust, I’ll fully support you. The words of one Fang family member might be a joke, but what about two? At the very least, I can persuade my father. This concerns the survival of the family. If you’re not lying, then please trust me.”

After hearing this, Grace Bennett felt it made some sense. At the moment, she really had no other way; she had to get the Fang family to prepare in advance.

“Fine, I truly can’t let go of the Fang family. You’re the only one willing to believe me, so I’ll teach you the Sword Control Technique. The Sword Control Technique is an entry-level spell for cultivators and the threshold between cultivation and martial arts.”

Grace Bennett spoke softly. Upon hearing this, William Harper nodded slightly, feeling nervous inside.

He both hoped it was real and feared it was real.

If it was real, then disaster awaited the Fang family.

But if it was real, then the path of cultivation and the pursuit of immortality would also be real…

If you could cultivate immortality, who would bother with martial arts?

Grace Bennett began to recite the incantation for the Sword Control Technique, and William Harper listened intently.
