The Blue-robed Hermit tapped the courtyard wall with his toes, as light as a swallow. While still in midair, his right hand swung the horsetail whisk, sweeping toward Grace Bennett. Almost instantly, Grace Bennett suddenly turned around and threw five throwing darts, each tracing a different arc as they shot toward The Blue-robed Hermit.
The Blue-robed Hermit's brows twitched, and the murderous intent in his eyes grew even stronger.
……
Bang!
A figure crashed through the courtyard wall, sending shards of stone flying. He landed on the stone path like a pile of mud, his limbs twisted unnaturally, a truly chilling sight.
William Harper withdrew his right leg, which had been suspended in midair, and looked coldly at the corpse before him.
Tonight was his first time killing someone, but he felt no discomfort, for he had witnessed many people of The Harper Estate die tragically, some even his own kin. Hatred had already taken over his mind.
He had already slain thirty-seven men in black, the weakest among them still a second-rate expert, and three of them were top masters.
Many of his clansmen and servants had witnessed his performance, but The Harper Estate was still in grave danger, and no one had time to marvel at his strength. In his eyes, there was only the task of killing the enemy.
He leapt toward the main hall, where his parents were. All along the way, he fought his way toward the hall, fearing something might happen to his parents.
With the skills of a martial arts legend, William Harper could kill all the men in black along the way without even using his inner energy. He had been saving his true energy, ending his enemies' lives with the most ruthless moves.
Before long—
William Harper reached the area around the main hall. There were at least five hundred servants here, surrounding the entire courtyard so tightly that not even water could seep through. Already, there were more than a dozen corpses of men in black.
William Harper hurried over, travel-worn but his white clothes unstained by blood. The servants all recognized him and made way.
He made his way to the front of the main hall and, seeing that his parents were safe, William Harper breathed a sigh of relief.
“Wang’er, come here quickly, it’s dangerous outside!”
William Harper’s mother, Miller, saw him and hurriedly waved and called out.
Edward Harper, seeing his son unharmed, also breathed a sigh of relief. Just as he was about to speak, a huge rumbling sound suddenly came from the west, and everyone turned their heads to look.
William Harper also turned to look. A burst of golden light shone on his face, and his pupils dilated.
If even he was so shocked, let alone the others—everyone was dumbfounded, as if they had seen a ghost.
From the west, a dazzling golden light rose between the buildings. Suspended beneath that golden light was a figure, holding the golden light aloft, his back to the bright moon. With William Harper’s extraordinary eyesight, he could make out the person’s true form.
It was a The Blue-robed Hermit, standing on one foot atop a wooden sword, right hand holding a horsetail whisk, left hand raised high above his head. In his palm was a yellow talisman, constantly emitting golden light, brilliant and dazzling.
“What is that?”
“How is it possible? How can a person be in midair?”
“It’s a ghost! A ghost is going to destroy my The Harper Estate!”
“It must be a trick. Even the greatest martial arts master couldn’t stand in the air like that!”
“If it’s just a trick, then why have so many masters attacked The Harper Estate tonight?”
The people of The Harper Estate all around were exclaiming in shock, a nameless terror spreading. Even the servants holding weapons were frightened; some had already knelt down, kowtowing and praying.
William Harper immediately strode toward The Blue-robed Hermit. This scene was seen by Miller.
“Wang’er, what are you doing?”
Miller called out, drawing many people’s attention to William Harper. Without looking back, William Harper simply raised the sword in his hand, leapt up like a great roc spreading its wings, soared several zhang high, landed on a distant rooftop, and dashed forward. Many members of the The Harper Family stared wide-eyed at this sight.
Third Young Master Fang Jin exclaimed in astonishment, “Fifth Brother, Wang’er’s lightness skill is incredible! Even Eldest Brother couldn’t jump that high.”
Edward Harper was stunned, staring at William Harper’s departing figure, unable to recover for a long time.
The family head, Samuel Harper, who was being supported, stared fixedly at The Blue-robed Hermit, his gaze not drawn away by William Harper. His face was uglier than ever before. He slowly uttered three words, only he could hear:
“Immortal cultivator!”
……
In the ruined courtyard, Grace Bennett, her hair slightly disheveled, looked up at the lofty The Blue-robed Hermit. She wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth; her left arm was clearly dislocated and hung limply.
“Little girl, what a domineering poison. This is by no means something an ordinary person could concoct. Which sect are you from? Could it be Qingchan Valley?” The Blue-robed Hermit looked down from above at Grace Bennett, asking coldly.
Grace Bennett frowned deeply and replied coldly, “What other treasures are you hiding on you?”
At these words, a vicious glint flashed in The Blue-robed Hermit’s pupils, his killing intent irrepressible. He snorted coldly, “If you won’t say, so be it. Go die!”
He suddenly pointed the yellow talisman in his hand at Grace Bennett, and countless golden rays shot out from the talisman like a torrential downpour, attacking Grace Bennett. Grace Bennett immediately leapt aside, but those golden rays were even faster.
After dodging several times, she could already feel the limits of this body.
“I didn’t expect him to have two decent magic tools. It seems his identity is not so simple.”
Grace Bennett’s heart sank. Was she going to have to use that move?
Just as she was about to be struck, an arm wrapped around her shoulders, and a powerful force pulled her out of the way of the golden rays. The golden rays struck the ground, piercing through the courtyard wall, stone slabs, and tree trunks—utterly fierce.
