Samuel Carter said, “Uncle, is Ryan Smith brother-in-law doing well?”
Eric Cooper was long used to him calling Ryan Smith that way, and smiled, “You little rascal, you’ll have to change how you address him in the future. You can’t call him brother-in-law anymore.”
Samuel Carter scratched his head and said, “Other than Ryan Smith brother-in-law, I don’t acknowledge anyone else.”
Eric Cooper just smiled.
Andrew Carter said, “Uncle, is Ryan Smith alright?”
Eric Cooper laughed, “It’s not like you don’t know his temper—when he’s angry, he eats more than ever. Right now, he’s feasting in the kitchen.”
The three brothers, upon hearing this, hurried toward the kitchen. As they entered, they saw Ryan Cooper devouring food and drink; more than half of a sumptuous meal had already been eaten by him alone, and a jar of wine was nearly empty.
All that food was enough for three people, yet he had packed it all into his own stomach. The three of them were secretly amazed.
They quietly watched him finish his meal.
Henry Carter said, “Ryan Smith, I really don’t know what to say. At home, we never had a chance to talk to our sister alone.”
Ryan Cooper said, “No need to say anything more. If any of you three dare say anything to her, I’ll be furious.”
The three truly hoped that Emily Carter could marry Ryan Cooper, but this kind of thing had happened.
The four of them fell silent for a moment.
Just then, a servant came in to report, “Young master, Miss Carter is waiting for you in your room.”
The three Carter brothers were overjoyed. Samuel Carter said, “Brother-in-law, my sister has changed her mind. Go quickly!”
Ryan Cooper stood up and said, “She’s come to lay it all out with me.” With that, he turned and strode out.
“Big brother, second brother, should we go too?”
The two brothers exchanged a glance and said in unison, “We’d better head home first.”
The most unforgettable thing in a person’s life is their first love. The feeling of first love is like looking at flowers through the mist, or gazing at the moon reflected in water—hazy, yet refreshing and intoxicating.
In the room, Ryan Cooper once again saw the graceful figure he had missed for two years. She was still dressed in emerald green, her beautiful face now tinged with weariness.
“Ryan Smith gege…”
Emily Carter suddenly threw herself into Ryan Cooper’s arms.
Ryan Cooper stood there motionless, letting her press herself against his chest.
Tears streamed from Emily Carter’s eyes. “Ryan Smith gege, I know I’ve wronged you. I shouldn’t have fallen in love with two people at the same time, sob…”
Big teardrops fell onto Ryan Cooper’s chest, soaking his collar.
“You don’t know how much I’ve missed you these past two years, and just then Mr. Smith entered my life. And, and he’s done so much for me. I found so many of your qualities in him—the same unyielding spirit, the same resilience. I started to treat him as you, to comfort my longing, but the deeper I got, the more I couldn’t escape, and in the end, I loved him just as I love you. Sob… My heart hurts so much, sob…”
Ryan Cooper let her pour out her heart, let her cry, standing there silently, not saying a word.
When love has been split in two, can it still be called love?
“Ryan Smith gege, say something, hit me if you want.” Emily Carter’s face was streaked with tears.
Ryan Cooper slowly pushed her away from his chest and said, “So it’s because he’s like me that you like him?”
“He has ideals, ambition, he wants to make a name for himself in the martial world, he wants to accomplish something on the continent…” Staring at Ryan Cooper’s indifferent face, Emily Carter’s voice trailed off.
Ryan Cooper mocked himself inwardly: Ideals, ambition. And me? Just a hooligan, a brawler.
Emily Carter looked at him in fear. “Ryan Smith gege, please forgive me, don’t be like this. Give me some time, I’ll forget about Mr. Smith.”
Ryan Cooper was completely disappointed. Even now, she was still thinking about that Mr. Smith.
“Yue’er, you don’t need to blame yourself. Back then, we were still young, we didn’t really understand what love was. Love isn’t just a promise, it’s also a responsibility, and it needs two hearts to always be together.
You don’t need to be hung up on past vows. You were young then, you didn’t understand true love. And I can’t bring you any happiness. Grandfather said I’m a battle soul defying the heavens; in this life, I live for martial arts, born for battle, my life will be filled with conflict. My peaceful life now is just the calm before the storm. Once I step into the martial world, there will be no turning back.
Go back to your Mr. Smith. Even though I only saw him once, I could feel that he truly loves you, and he can bring you happiness. Go on, I wish you both a long and happy life together.”
Emily Carter was already sobbing uncontrollably. “Sob… No, Ryan Smith gege, I never want to leave you.”
Ryan Cooper once again pushed her away from his chest, supported her as they walked out of the room, and then to the main gate.
The servants of the The Cooper Family looked in astonishment at the expressionless Ryan Cooper and the weeping Emily Carter, all of them clueless as to what had happened.
Ryan Cooper escorted Emily Carter all the way to the gate of the The Carter Family before stopping.
Emily Carter’s face was covered in tears. “Ryan Smith gege, I will never leave you.”
Ryan Cooper said nothing.
