Chapter 14

Andrew Carter also said, “That’s right. Even from this far away, we can feel that murderous aura. It shows that those people have killed countless times. Maybe they’re death warriors raised by some families, people who specialize in killing.”

The group discussed and decided to take a detour on their way back.

But before they had walked more than a dozen steps, they heard the sound of something slicing through the air behind them. Those people had discovered them and gave chase, quickly surrounding them.

These people were split into two factions: one dressed in black, the other in gray. They all shared one thing in common—a chilling murderous aura radiated from each of them. Their eyes were cold, their faces expressionless; one look and you could tell they were cold-blooded types.

The last to arrive were two young men. One was tall, but his looks were nothing to boast about. If you had to describe him, four words would suffice: shifty-eyed and sneaky—he looked just like a rat spirit. The other was average-looking but extremely chubby, a real short and round fellow. Everyone struggled not to laugh out loud; yet here these two clowns were, trying to act cool and compete for a woman’s attention. No wonder the girl with the surname Li wouldn’t choose either of them. Judging by these two’s appearances, the girl being pursued probably wasn’t much of a beauty either, but she was nowhere to be seen.

The tall young man said coldly, “Who are you? Why are you here?”

Someone among the riffraff replied, “None of your damn business. Do we have to tell you what we’re doing?”

“Boom!”

Everyone burst out laughing.

Ryan Cooper immediately thought, This is bad—this is no place for banter. Both of these groups looked like trouble, especially the two young leaders, who exuded a sinister vibe. They were clearly no good, and even he felt an urge to beat them up. But on his side, apart from the three brothers of the The Carter Family, the rest were just a ragtag bunch. How could they possibly match up to the other side?

“Damn it, where did this punk come from, daring to talk to our young master like that? Looking for death.” A burly man in black shouted as he charged at the riffraff.

Ryan Cooper quickly stopped him and said, “Please wait, big brother. My friend here grew up eating glue—he’s not too bright and doesn’t know how to talk. We all call him ‘Dumb Two.’ You gentlemen are all impressive and clearly destined for great things. Why stoop to the level of a fool?”

Ryan Cooper cursed inwardly, Damn, I can’t believe I just said something so disgusting.

The riffraff was extremely frustrated.

“Sigh, if you want to talk about pitiful, those two pig-headed freaks over there are the most pitiful. They were abandoned in the forest at birth and raised by a wild boar. It wasn’t until they were teenagers that an old hunter from the town found them, ending their inhuman life of running on all fours through the woods. Actually, the main reason we came to this forest this time was to accompany these two pig-headed freaks to visit the old mother boar who raised them.”

Henry Cooper and Andrew Cooper cursed inwardly, “Ryan Cooper, you’re the real pig-head, damn it. Just because we ‘accidentally greeted’ your butt with our feet during the fight earlier. Damn, just wait and see.” They wanted to lash out but managed to hold back.

“Haha…”

The others burst out laughing, and even the riffraff on their own side couldn’t help but snicker.

The short, chubby one said, “Pig-head freak, you lived with wild boars for over ten years, you must speak pig language. Say a few words for everyone to hear.”

Ryan Cooper thought, This is bad. He had only wanted to crack a joke and get closer to these people, but he hadn’t expected them to push things so far. Who were the The Carter Brothers? They were the sons of The Carter Family’s current head, Jason Carter. How could they tolerate such humiliation?

The most hot-tempered, Henry Carter, shouted angrily, “Damn you, you short and fat bastard! I’ll steam you, boil you alive, stew you raw—damn it, you’re really asking for it!”

Andrew Carter also said, “You’re really asking for it.”

The aura the two brothers gave off startled everyone present.

Ryan Cooper knew there was no way this would end peacefully today.

Just then, a voice as melodious as celestial music rang out, “Gentlemen, please calm your anger for now.”

A young woman in white floated over, her eyes like autumn water, her bones like jade, as if a fairy from the ninth heaven had descended to earth. She approached gracefully, her beauty unparalleled, dreamlike and ethereal. All the beauty in the world paled in comparison to her stunning face.

Time seemed to stand still. Both sides stared wide-eyed, the only sound was heavy breathing.

Ryan Cooper was also momentarily dazed, thinking to himself: How could there be such a beautiful woman in this world? One glance could topple a city, another could topple a nation. No wonder those two ugly guys were fighting to the death. If I could marry such a beauty, I’d have no regrets in life. Look at those two—if they could win her, where’s the justice in the world? A toad wanting to eat swan meat—dream on! If anyone’s going to win her, it should be me. Suddenly, another pretty face flashed through his mind—Emily Carter—and a pang of pain struck his heart.

Ryan Cooper pinched his thigh hard and snapped back to reality. Looking at the people beside him—classic lechers, all of them, staring as if under a spell. Even the The Carter Brothers had lustful glints in their eyes, and those two ugly young men were practically drooling.

Damn, disgusting.

Ryan Cooper calmed his excitement before daring to look directly at the Li family girl again.
