Chapter 4

Tomorrow, Victor Carter will come to kill, and Andrew Carter sat up in his room with his eyes open, his heart full of unwillingness.

Escape? Maybe that was an option—a wise man does not fight a losing battle. But Andrew Carter was not willing!

He sat there in a daze, when suddenly his brows furrowed and he couldn’t help but listen intently. From outside came a faint sound, as if someone was whispering in secret.

At first, Andrew Carter thought it was just a servant passing by outside, but as he listened again, he suddenly felt as if the sound was right by his ear.

He couldn’t help but stand up and press himself against the door, but outside it was suddenly silent, as if the whole world had lost even the slightest sound.

He strained his ears even more, but outside was deathly still!

Something was wrong! Andrew Carter grew alert. Even at night, there should be the sound of wind; the silence outside was just too strange.

Just as his suspicions grew, suddenly countless voices surged up, as if coming from far away, yet also as if whispering right beside his ear.

Each voice was not loud, but the constant rustling was indescribably eerie.

Andrew Carter suddenly flung open the door. Outside, night had fallen; a few night lamps in the manor swayed in the wind, everything quiet as usual.

But in Andrew Carter’s ears, it was not so. Those strange voices grew even louder. The sounds were still not loud, but they were endless, and gradually, these deliberately suppressed voices became like an invisible, boundless ocean.

The mountains echoed, and heaven and earth resounded.

Andrew Carter stared blankly outside. In the moonlight, the distant 镇魂山 looked like a group of giants guarding something.

Those bizarre demonic murmurs came continuously from beyond the sky, from underground, from afar, yet all converged within 镇魂山!

Andrew Carter hesitated, but he could clearly feel that those voices, whispering by his ear as if for ten thousand years, held a fatal allure for him! He still took a step forward, heading toward 镇魂山.

There were also patrolling servants in the manor. Along the way, he encountered three teams of servants, but as Andrew Carter walked past them, not a single one noticed him!

Once, he even walked straight past the servant at the very front carrying a lantern, and the man didn’t see him at all, as if Andrew Carter were invisible.

It was obvious—they not only didn’t see Andrew Carter, but also didn’t hear those strange demonic voices. Why this was so, Andrew Carter found odd, but there was no time to think about it.

He walked on, step by step, following the place where those voices finally converged.

He left the manor and entered 镇魂山.

He had often come to this mountain to play before, but this time, he didn’t even realize that, following those strange demonic murmurs, he had walked down a path he had never taken before.

Unknowingly, he had gone dozens of miles deep into the mountain, and before him appeared a vast and enormous valley. Andrew Carter had never known that there was such a valley within 镇魂山.

At this moment, those whispering demonic voices suddenly became clamorous. Andrew Carter looked up, and saw streaks of pitch-black demonic shadows darting across the night sky above.

Those shadows were thousands of zhang long, hideous and terrifying, making one shudder.

“Dark Sea Demonic Beasts!” he thought in shock. The Dark Sea Demonic Beasts were monsters born in the Dark Sea, not of the demon race. In fact, after the demon race retreated into the Dark Sea, their greatest threat was these very Dark Sea Demonic Beasts.

And to be able to tear through the void and reach deep into the continent, these Dark Sea Demonic Beasts must be the strongest of their kind.

In comparison, these Dark Sea Demonic Beasts were already on par with the supreme powerhouses of the human race!

Yet, these powerful Dark Sea Demonic Beasts were trembling with fear, completely lacking their usual ferocity and viciousness. They gathered from all directions, and upon reaching the center of the valley, obediently landed, shrinking their bodies down to the size of a fist. Thousands of mighty Dark Sea Demonic Beasts crouched on the ground like a group of timid rabbits, bowing repeatedly.

And the object of their worship floated in the void, slowly rotating.

Andrew Carter was startled: it was a pitch-black heart!

As if cast from black iron.

Thick blood vessels ran across the heart, and there seemed to be blood flowing within, but when Andrew Carter looked closely, he was shocked to find that those vessels were actually black dragons coiled around the heart!

At the top of the heart was branded a Taiji diagram. Unlike the usual black-and-white Taiji, this one was ink green and blood red.

Two strange Taiji fish formed this diagram, and the black dragons seemed to be “fighting over” it.

“Thump!” The heart suddenly beat once, and Andrew Carter immediately felt the world spin, the sky above and the earth below shaking together.

The Dark Sea Demonic Beasts trembled in fear.

“Thump!” The heart beat a second time, and a powerful tremor shook heaven and earth. 镇魂山 could barely hold together, as massive rocks thundered down from the peaks.

  “Thump!”

  “Thump!”

  ……

The pitch-black heart beat nine times, 镇魂山 completely collapsed, chaos reigned between heaven and earth, and Andrew Carter could not escape in time.

Suddenly, before his eyes, a brand new world appeared. It was still 镇魂山, but a colossal dark-golden figure, tens of thousands of zhang tall, slowly turned around.

Compared to this figure, the surrounding mountains, thousands of zhang high, were nothing but little mounds at its feet.
