Chapter 19

Brian Brooks saw Charles Bennett and couldn’t help but curse. William Harris raised a finger to his lips, signaling Brian Brooks to be quiet, and whispered, “Watch!”

Just as he finished speaking, another seven cultivators rushed in. By now, there were quite a lot of people: the six cultivators in front, plus Charles Bennett’s group of three, and the seven new arrivals—sixteen people in total.

And that’s not even counting William Harris’s group of three. In fact, there were still some cultivators watching from the woods outside the square—not every cultivator was so impulsive.

The attacks from the six cultivators also eased up, since there were too many people now. They were only attacking from outside the red pillars.

All sorts of attacks rained down, but the scorpion’s body seemed to have been reinforced with something; no matter how they hit it, they couldn’t break through its defenses. Their strength simply wasn’t enough.

And since the scorpion couldn’t stray too far from the red pillars, this gave everyone a bit of a sense of safety—as long as they didn’t rush into the area within the red pillars, they were safe.

Charles Bennett observed for a while and found that the danger wasn’t great. He also felt he could kill the scorpion, so he stepped into the square.

Brian Brooks stared hard at Charles Bennett and whispered, “Boss Jin, that bastard Charles Bennett went in. If you weren’t lying to me, doesn’t that mean he’s already fallen into the formation?”

William Harris nodded and said, “You’re right.”

Brian Brooks asked, “Can we trigger the formation and set it off early?”

William Harris gave Brian Brooks a surprised look. This guy actually wanted to set someone up too—what a strange feeling! Brian Brooks always gave the impression of being rough and straightforward, not someone who used his head much. Who would have thought he had this side to him?

“Can’t be done!”

Brian Brooks said regretfully, “What a pity…”

William Harris laughed, “Nothing to regret. Let’s go! Staying any longer is just a waste of time!”

Now every second counted—the more people who came in, the more chaotic it would get.

Brian Brooks looked back at Charles Bennett in the distance, then left a bit unwillingly. He really wanted to see what Charles Bennett looked like trapped in the formation, but William Harris wouldn’t allow it, and he didn’t dare to charge in alone.

Grace Morgan followed William Harris without hesitation. She knew very well that this excitement wasn’t worth watching.

The three of them quickly withdrew from the woods, as if they had never been there at all.

Charles Bennett slowly approached the red pillars, circling around the outside without any intention of making a move. He watched as a dozen cultivators attacked enthusiastically. The two cultivators he brought with him stood by his side after he entered.

Someone shouted, “Either fight together or get out of the way!”

Charles Bennett didn’t respond. He slowly backed away, showing no intention of moving forward—though he was still in the square, which was quite large.

The chubby guy next to him said, “Boss, why should we give way?”

Charles Bennett smiled, “Heh, your boss can’t bear to fight for it. It’s not easy for anyone, so let’s give way if we can. I don’t mind.”

The chubby guy was very moved and said, “Boss, there’s never been a master like you in the cultivation world! So considerate to your juniors.”

The guy with the braid chimed in, “Yeah, boss, you’re really a good person!”

Finally, a cultivator said, “These scattered attacks can’t shake this scorpion at all. Let’s focus our attacks together!”

A dozen cultivators focused their attacks, which was quite terrifying. Even Charles Bennett straightened up and watched intently. He had no intention of making a move—he was just thinking about how to take advantage of the situation, so he stayed in the square to watch.

The other cultivators didn’t pay him any mind. After all, there were only three of them—what trouble could they cause?

“Boom!”

This strike hit the red pillars about halfway, as the scorpion darted around, constantly letting out ear-piercing screeches that made everyone’s nerves fray.

Someone shouted, “This won’t work! Someone needs to give orders so we can attack together!”

“I’ll do it! I’ll do it!”

A cultivator shouted loudly, “I’ll command—everyone focus your attacks on the scorpion’s head!”

Good!

Everyone followed the orders!

With someone taking the lead, others responded. Everyone coveted the spirit pill on the jade table, but only by killing the scorpion could they reach the table and try to break the restriction on it. Killing the scorpion required everyone’s combined effort.

Someone turned to Charles Bennett and said, “You guys join in too—attack together, or you won’t get a share of the spirit pill later!”

Charles Bennett smiled and said, “We’re just watching, not interested in the spirit pill.”

How could he make a move? If he did, his strength would be exposed immediately. With so many cannon fodder in front, why should he step up? He could just wait and snatch it later—it would be easy.

Immediately, someone in the group said, “Forget it, we have enough people. One more person just means splitting the loot further.”

This made them a temporary community of shared interests. Although this little group was fragile, it didn’t stop them from launching their attack.

“Crack!”

With a screech, the scorpion suddenly lunged out a large section of its body. Its raised tail, like a whip, lashed downward.

A shrill scream rang out and was abruptly cut off. The scorpion’s tail, tipped with a black poisonous barb, pierced straight through a cultivator’s skull from top to bottom. The tip of the tail even protruded from his chest, glinting with a chilling, deadly light.
