Chapter 8

At this moment, in the pitch-black forest at the edge of the base, 13 put down his gun and said, “‘The Eye’ is gone. Now, let’s begin the mission. 1, don’t forget what you promised me...” With that, 13 stood his sniper rifle upright against his back, leaned forward, and dashed toward the base’s towering steel-wire fence.

After leaving the forest, 13 was seen wearing a black, tight-fitting combat suit, with both hands, feet, and chest covered in gleaming metallic armor. 13 had changed into a high-collared combat suit, the fabric covering everything below the nose, and the holographic protective helmet on his head fit seamlessly with the collar. The helmet’s excellent air filtration system solved the problem of gas attacks. Now, not a single inch of 13’s skin was exposed to the air. Already slim and small (standing only 1.75 meters tall and weighing 59 kilograms), 13 looked even more streamlined in this gear. The most unforgettable feature was the four cameras on either side of the helmet (two vertically aligned on each side), emitting a terrifying red glow in the darkness. As 13 sprinted, they trailed long streaks of light behind him.

In the blink of an eye, 13 was about to crash into the fence, which was 100 meters from the forest. Suddenly, he twisted his body, drew a specially made 25-centimeter combat knife from under his back armor, and slashed at the fence. Normally, even steel pliers would struggle to cut through the fence, but under the rotational force generated by 13’s powerful momentum, it became as soft as jelly. 13 leapt through the opening and, accompanied by the blaring alarm, ran toward the base’s armory.

“1, why did you agree to let 13 carry out the mission alone?” 24 looked at 1 and asked.

“Because 13 also promised me something.”

“If he dies using SEED, we’re not responsible. But if the enemy kills him while we’re still alive, you know what will happen to us, right? If ‘Grandpa Nie’ gets angry...” 36’s cold words were cut off by 1.

“That’s enough. Do you really think 13 in the ‘White Tiger’ suit would be taken out by those TW soldiers?” 1 looked at 36 and asked.

“Fine, even if 13 isn’t in immediate danger, what if those ‘Divine Punishment’ guys show up? David Clark might not know how powerful the M-country’s powered armor is, but we, who have the same kind of protective armor, know exactly what those guys are capable of, don’t we?” 36 retorted.

“There won’t be any problems.” 24 looked in the direction 13 was running and said, “Because he’s 13. You haven’t forgotten what happened during the ‘graduation exam,’ have you? Don’t we all have the same thoughts as Commander Clark in our hearts? 13 is ‘invincible’...”

“No matter what, let’s observe 13’s performance for now. If any of those ‘Divine Punishment’ guys really show up, we’ll step in.” 1 said in a commanding tone.

By now, 13 was already less than 100 meters from the armory. The guards spotted 13 and, trembling, raised their guns and shouted, “Stop! Who goes there? Come any closer and I’ll—” Before he could finish, 13 had already drawn a modified GLOCK12 (a pistol, shaped like the one used by terrorists in CS, with a 20-round magazine, and after modification, can accurately hit a flying fly within 100 meters—of course, only in the hands of a special agent) from under his chest armor and ended the guard’s life. 13 suddenly stopped running, holstered the modified 12, and took out the COOL—FIRE, aiming it directly at the armory’s steel door.

“Attention, intruder! You are surrounded. Drop your weapon and surrender! Otherwise, in five seconds, we’ll open fire!” 13 looked around and found that 7, 8 hundred fully armed soldiers had surrounded him.

“I came because I knew you’d set an ambush. This makes things much easier.” 13 didn’t lower his weapon and muttered softly, “I really wish I could die quietly like you, but now is not the time. It’s a bit sad, isn’t it?” With that, he gently squeezed the trigger. The high-velocity armor-piercing round silently pierced the armory’s one-centimeter-thick steel door.

“Boom...” The massive explosion sounded especially jarring in the stillness of the night. The soaring flames were enough to attract every moth in the world to their doom.

13 finally lowered his gun, turned around, and looked at the officer who had just been shouting into the mic, saying, “It hasn’t even been five seconds yet. Does that mean you’re not going to kill me?”

The officer, stunned by the explosion, looked at 13 standing in the firelight, and, terrified, fell to the ground, shouting incoherently, “Kill him! Kill him!”

“Open fire!” The officer, sitting on the ground, shouted hoarsely.

The soldiers instinctively pulled their triggers, their actions driven by their bodies’ natural response to fear.

13 crouched down, and the moment gunfire erupted all around, he vanished from the square.

“Where is he?” The soldiers searched frantically like headless chickens.

Suddenly, a soldier pointed to the sky in panic and blurted out, “He... he’s up there!” Before he could finish, a rapidly thrown knife struck him in the head, killing him instantly.

Before the knife even hit the ground, 13 caught it with his left hand, spun sideways, and slashed the throat of another soldier who was looking up.

“He’s in the crowd!” Instantly, the tight encirclement fell into chaos. 13 didn’t use his gun, but gripped his combat knife in a reverse grip with one hand. Wherever he went, there were shouts, screams, and gunfire, all testifying to the terror of 13.

“Rocket launcher! Use the rocket launcher and blow him to pieces!” The officer’s voice was already hoarse.

13 paused and looked at a soldier in the distance shouldering a launcher. The soldier, terrified by the four glowing red ‘eyes’ of 13, pressed the launch button before he could even lock on.

13 drew the modified 12 again and fired a shot, the explosion producing thick clouds of smoke.
