Occasionally, the primordial beasts that wanted to attack didn’t even have time to make a move before Kevin Walker had already gone far away.
Putting everything else aside, after more than three months of fierce battles, the average small beast was no longer much of a threat to Kevin Walker. Of course, precisely because of this, Kevin Walker was even more cautious, knowing that any carelessness could cost his life.
Arriving outside the base, Kevin Walker was no longer like he was over three months ago—he had no particular feelings, no sentimentality, and quickly moved the stones blocking the entrance one by one.
But as soon as he entered the already damaged construction base, Kevin Walker was stunned. It seemed that another earthquake or similar event had occurred, and several bottomless cracks had been torn open inside the base.
Originally, this wasn’t a big deal. Kevin Walker checked and found that the rooms housing the tour group and soldiers were still fine. What truly left Kevin Walker speechless and saddened was that the food storage room was right at the crack, and all the food stored in the base was gone.
Now, Kevin Walker wouldn’t starve to death, but his dream of improving his quality of life was shattered.
Just as he was lamenting his broken dream, Kevin Walker suddenly noticed that beneath several large cracks, there seemed to be faint traces of some structures. There was actually another level more than ten meters below the construction base.
Kevin Walker was quite surprised: “Huh... what’s this, there’s actually another level down there...”
Although there was a huge crack below, Kevin Walker found a good spot and jumped straight down, easily landing at an angle below.
What seemed like a simple leap was actually the result of months of training for Kevin Walker; anyone with less experience wouldn’t dare try it, since if anything went wrong, the crack below was bottomless.
After a careful inspection, he found that this place was actually quite large. Inside, there was a fitness area, and the largest section was an armory, clearly used when the large-scale military first came to clear out the primordial beasts. At this point, the armory was obviously already emptied.
After searching around, only a battle room caught Kevin Walker’s attention, because inside the battle room there were two separate machines—huge pods, and inside them thousands of things resembling massage needles. Kevin Walker knew these were neural source connection sensors; these were actually two virtual battle network pods.
The virtual battle network, originally called the Atlantis Virtual Network, was developed after the Atlantis civilization discovered neural source connection technology. The completely 100% realistic virtual games and virtual lives that people once imagined still didn’t exist; those were ideas for peacetime, when such things would be used for games and entertainment.
Human neural source analysis is not that simple, especially since the two mainframes humans now rely on are both relics from the Atlantis civilization. With humanity entering the Primordial Era, danger and opportunity coexist, so the technology was repurposed into a battle network.
At first, it was meant for soldiers to train inside. Starting five years ago, it gradually opened up so that ordinary cultivators could also enter to train and spar.
Previously, Kevin Walker hadn’t started cultivating and wasn’t qualified to use the virtual battle network. Now, things were different. Most importantly...
Circling the two virtual battle network pods, Kevin Walker grew more and more excited the more he thought about it.
“Virtual battle network! Once connected, doesn’t that mean I can contact Earth, contact the military, tell them there are still survivors on Mars, tell them to come rescue me...”
This was his hope for communicating with the outside world. Circling the virtual battle network pods a few times, Kevin Walker immediately began inspecting them. The base’s original power system had been destroyed, but fortunately, the military base had backup solid energy blocks.
However, there weren’t many usable solid energy blocks left, but that wasn’t the main issue. The key problem was that both virtual battle network pods were already damaged. Kevin Walker checked and found that one core seemed intact, and some of the external parts could probably be swapped.
In the days that followed, Kevin Walker put his academic prowess to use, carefully dismantling the two pods bit by bit, piecing together all the usable parts from both.
The hardest part of the virtual network battle pod was the neural connection sensor. As long as it could connect, the core conversion would be handled by the two Atlantis mainframes—something humans still couldn’t replicate.
As for the other aspects, they weren’t actually that difficult; even more than thirty years ago, before the Primordial Era, humans had already begun to touch on this technology.
Even so, with such high-precision equipment and without enough tools or complete professional knowledge, Kevin Walker could only carefully explore and repair it bit by bit.
Throwing himself into the repairs, whenever he was tired or hungry, Kevin Walker would go into the forest to hunt and fight for a while.
During this time, Little Tyler woke up twice. Each time, he would scold Kevin Walker for neglecting his proper duties before continuing his own cultivation.
Kevin Walker couldn’t even be bothered to explain anymore. Sleeping, fixing machines, fighting, eating—none of it delayed his cultivation of the Kunlun Technique that Little Tyler talked about, right? Besides, he wasn’t a primordial beast; he was human. He needed to find a way to contact Earth, contact the military, and get out of here. How was that neglecting his proper duties?
For a full thirty-seven days—over a month—when he finally saw the virtual network battle pod power up, Kevin Walker jumped up and shouted excitedly, “Yeah! Woohoo, it’s fixed... Haha, haha, it’s fixed...”
