Chapter 20

At this moment, David Clark had already killed one of the two generals blocking the road ahead and was currently fighting Steven Bolton with his sword. Ethan Brooks, with sharp eyes, noticed a spear abandoned on the ground—it seemed to be the one David Clark originally used. The spear tip must have been bent, making it useless for killing enemies, so it was discarded. Just then, several Cao soldiers charged over. Ethan Brooks quickly swung his trident-blade, driving these Cao soldiers back, then chased after the leading general ahead, cut him down with a single stroke, and snatched the spear from his hand. This general died an unjust death; originally, Ethan Brooks was on horseback with two others, and after running for so long, they couldn’t move fast. Unfortunately, this general was surrounded by many foot soldiers and couldn’t escape quickly, which allowed Ethan Brooks to catch up and kill him.

After seizing the spear, Ethan Brooks ran toward David Clark with a blade in one hand and the spear in the other. When he caught up, he saw David Clark slice off one of Steven Bolton’s arms with a sword, then turn and stab him to death. He praised, “Excellent skills!”

David Clark turned and saw it was Ethan Brooks, then glanced at the blood covering Ethan Brooks, and said, “Andrew, your skills are not bad either!” He then took the spear Ethan Brooks handed over and continued forward.

Meanwhile, the two of them fought their way forward. From encountering Eric Bolton, to Ethan Brooks slaying two generals with a single stroke, to David Clark charging ahead with unstoppable might—all these scenes were witnessed by Charles Miller, who was observing the battlefield from a high vantage point. From the mountain, Charles Miller saw the two of them charging back and forth as if no one could stop them, and urgently asked his attendants, “Who are those two generals down there?” The accompanying officers looked left and right, but none could answer. The distance was too great, and both David Clark and Ethan Brooks were covered in blood—even those who knew them couldn’t recognize them at this moment. Victor Miller had no choice but to gallop down the mountain, rush into the battle, and shout loudly, “State your names, warriors of the army!”

David Clark and Ethan Brooks were in the midst of battle. David Clark was unfazed, but Ethan Brooks was distracted by the shout and was stabbed in the waist by a spear. Fortunately, the wound was not deep, or it would have left a gaping hole. Seeing this, David Clark immediately said, “Andrew, don’t get distracted!” He then killed the soldier who had stabbed Ethan Brooks and forced back the surrounding enemies, then shouted into the distance, “We serve under Lord Liu—David Clark, William Clark, and Ethan Brooks, Andrew Brooks!” After shouting, he focused on fighting, ignoring Victor Miller no matter how much he called out. Seeing that the two ignored him, Victor Miller quickly rode back to report to Charles Miller.

Upon hearing the report, Charles Miller sighed, “These two are truly tiger generals! Capture them alive!” He then ordered his men not to use hidden arrows, but to take them alive.

By now, the two were deeply surrounded. Ethan Brooks felt his trident-blade growing heavier, his arm gradually losing all feeling. His left hand was even worse—cold and numb, barely able to move. The arrow wound on his shoulder was now completely numb; he had no idea how the wound was faring.

After another round of fighting, Ethan Brooks began to feel his head growing dizzy, knowing it was due to excessive blood loss. He forced himself to stay conscious, but his swings grew slower. His reactions were no longer as sharp as before, and in this short time, he had received three more wounds. Fortunately, he still knew to protect his life, dodging at critical moments—these slight dodges turned many fatal attacks into minor wounds.

David Clark, seeing this from the front, could only worry helplessly, unable to do much. He could only whirl his spear desperately, fighting his way forward while keeping an eye on Ethan Brooks. If he saw Ethan Brooks faltering, he would turn back to help. But this only made their advance slower.

Both David Clark and Ethan Brooks thought to themselves, “Are we really going to die here today?” Just then, David Clark suddenly felt the pressure ease; the sea of Cao soldiers ahead was gone. He realized they had broken through the encirclement and immediately shouted to Ethan Brooks behind him, “Andrew, keep up! We’ve broken through!”

By now, Ethan Brooks was already dazed, his mind growing unclear. Hearing David Clark’s shout, he instinctively urged his horse forward. Though his mind was foggy, he still remembered to stick close to David Clark, so he didn’t fall behind. The two of them spurred their horses, charging out of the main formation. Down the slope was Dangyang Bridge, but just then, two more enemy units appeared at the foot of the hill. The two leading generals, one wielding an axe and the other a halberd, shouted at David Clark and Ethan Brooks, “Dismount and surrender! Spare yourselves from death!”

A loud shout drew David Clark’s attention, but his horse didn’t slow down in the slightest, and he gripped his spear even tighter. Looking back, he saw Ethan Brooks’s face growing paler, his whole body slumped over the horse, as if a gust of wind could blow him off. “Andrew! Hold on a little longer! We’re almost out!”
