Julia Bennett choked for a moment—she really had no way to deal with Chris Brooks now. When the 137 bus arrived, she didn’t wait for Chris Brooks and just got on first.
Chris Brooks slowly carried all the luggage onto the bus, only then noticing that Julia Bennett had saved him a seat as well. However, there were several reserved-looking male college students standing nearby, all seemingly wanting to sit next to Julia Bennett.
Julia Bennett stared nervously at the door, and when she saw Chris Brooks get on, she quickly waved her little hand and called out excitedly, “Little Brooks, come over here.”
Chris Brooks thought to himself, these virgins are way too timid. He swaggered over and sat down. This clear “territorial” move immediately extinguished the hopes of those restless college guys, and they quickly dispersed.
“Little Brooks, are all college guys this desperate?”
Julia Bennett asked in a low voice.
“Of course not. I’m not like that.”
Chris Brooks retorted righteously.
“Okay, I believe you, but can you take your hand off my shoulder first?”
Julia Bennett said with a distressed look.
……
Chapter 12: Room 303 Has Something Special
Earlier, when Chris Brooks sat down, he “accidentally” put his hand on Julia Bennett’s shoulder. In that instant, he could clearly feel Julia Bennett’s soft body suddenly stiffen.
But at the time, there was a group of reserved male college students around, so Julia Bennett just turned her head and didn’t say anything.
Now that everyone had left, Julia Bennett felt the gesture was too intimate, so she reminded Chris Brooks to mind his manners.
“Sigh, why can’t I control this hand of mine?”
Chris Brooks replied with a grin, but even a fool could see he did it on purpose.
Julia Bennett sighed inwardly. Ever since she rejected Chris Brooks’s confession last time, he’d been taking advantage of her—verbally, physically, and of course, mentally.
By rights, she should be angry, but she felt that would be too dramatic. After all, they were classmates and friends, and now fellow townsfolk in a strange place.
“At least he’s liked me for three years. Might as well just let it go.”
Julia Bennett turned to glance at Chris Brooks. His features were sharp, his gaze playful and rebellious. Chris Brooks had always been like this since high school, though he used to be much more polite to Julia Bennett.
Chris Brooks didn’t notice Julia Bennett’s look. He gazed at the city, both familiar and strange, his mind filled with memories.
“So many years have passed. Who would’ve thought I’d be back? Girls at the Finance College, is everyone doing well?”
……
It took about an hour to get from Jianye Train Station to Jiangling University Town. Most incoming freshmen from out of town had never ridden a bus for so long and felt nauseous from all the jostling.
After getting off, Julia Bennett didn’t look too well either. Chris Brooks thought to himself, this damn driver hasn’t changed a bit—driving the bus like a low-flying plane.
Donghai University and the Finance College were separated by only a 30-meter-wide road, so they were truly neighbors.
“It’s just that I can’t say it out loud, let her know, I’ll always care for you, and make you smile…”
At that moment, Julia Bennett’s phone suddenly rang. Hearing the song “Can’t Say It” made Chris Brooks feel nostalgic. From 2000 to 2010, the Chinese music scene was truly a battleground of legends, with countless timeless classics.
But he was just feeling sentimental—Chris Brooks was tone-deaf and would never do something like copying lyrics.
The call was from David Harris. Even after arriving at school, this guy hadn’t forgotten his goddess and called just to check in.
Julia Bennett politely exchanged a few words and was about to hang up, but David Harris kept repeating, “Take good care of yourself, I’ll come find you once I’m settled, don’t get tanned,” and other such nonsense.
Chris Brooks was getting annoyed just listening, so he snatched the phone: “Damn, you’re so naggy. I’ll take good care of Julia Bennett.”
With that, he hung up. Although Julia Bennett didn’t really want to deal with David Harris either, they were still classmates, and Chris Brooks hadn’t even asked before hanging up.
“How could you do that?”
Julia Bennett still hoped to reason with the current Chris Brooks.
Chris Brooks glanced at the bags on the ground. “Are you coming or not? If not, I’m heading back to my own school.”
Julia Bennett really did have a lot of luggage—no way a girl could carry it all. She glared at Chris Brooks a few times but ended up giving in first.
“Little Brooks, let’s make up.”
Chris Brooks was taken aback. “What do you mean, make up?”
“I mean, let’s get along like we used to, okay?”
Julia Bennett said, aggrieved.
Chris Brooks understood. He thought, yeah right—back then I was chasing you, of course I was all nice and gentle. Now that I’m not, making up would just make things awkward for me.
But though he thought this, he replied with a roguish smile, “Sure, just be my girlfriend.”
“Little Brooks, I don’t want to… at least not before I graduate.”
Julia Bennett started her usual routine, but Chris Brooks immediately cut her off: “OK, then let’s not talk anymore. I’ll carry your luggage to your dorm, then head back.”
Chris Brooks slung all the bags over his shoulders and walked into Donghai University. His attitude now was just as cold as it had been at the bus station at noon—so heartless that Julia Bennett felt like crying.
