Chapter 18

Chris Brooks was very familiar with Donghai University, and he led Julia Bennett through the enrollment procedures without a hitch. Julia Bennett quietly followed behind, and finally Chris Brooks stopped in front of the girls’ dormitory building.

“I’ll help you carry your luggage upstairs, and that’ll fulfill my promise to Uncle Bennett, so your dad and my dad won’t have anything to complain about.”

Julia Bennett wanted to say something, but when she looked at the “heartless, unfeeling, unreasonable troublemaker” that was Chris Brooks, she just pouted and headed upstairs.

“Tch, throwing a little tantrum now.”

Chris Brooks sneered.

Since it was registration time, men were allowed in the girls’ dorms. After signing in, Chris Brooks noticed that Julia Bennett was dawdling ahead.

“Julia Bennett.”

Chris Brooks called out.

“What do you want!”

Julia Bennett turned around fiercely, ready to make Chris Brooks apologize no matter what he said.

“You’re heading toward the public restroom. The dorm is this way. So clueless.”

Chris Brooks looked thoroughly disgusted.

“Ah, ah, okay.”

Julia Bennett could only return, on the verge of tears, and felt too embarrassed to demand an apology.

When they opened the door to room 303 of the girls’ dorm, several girls had already moved in. They were all quite friendly, helping with the luggage and introducing themselves to each other.

“Are you Rongyu’s boyfriend?”

A sweet-looking girl with little tiger teeth asked Chris Brooks.

The other roommates were curious too, since everyone else had been dropped off by their parents, but Julia Bennett was brought by a boy.

Usually, that kind of relationship could only mean boyfriend and girlfriend.

Julia Bennett was about to deny it—she was determined to focus on her studies and didn’t want her roommates to think she was dating.

But Chris Brooks reacted even more strongly, waving his hands: “Don’t misunderstand, don’t misunderstand! Julia Bennett and I are high school classmates. Her dad had something come up and asked me to help out, that’s all.”

Seeing how seriously Chris Brooks was explaining, Julia Bennett felt a strange pang of sadness. She pretended to lower her head and organize her things, listening to Chris Brooks chat with the roommates.

“So, which school are you from?”

The girl with the little tiger teeth continued.

“I’m from the School of Finance, right across the hall,” Chris Brooks replied.

When they heard the name of the finance school, some of the roommates lost interest. Compared to Donghai University, the finance school was much less prestigious. They were still stuck in the mindset that everything depended on entrance exam scores.

But the girl with the little tiger teeth didn’t mind at all. She smiled and said, “My name is Emily Clark, I’m from Jianye. What’s your name?”

“My name is James Brooks.”

Even though Emily Clark was a local, Chris Brooks showed no sign of nervousness, and even put on a bit of a show.

“Nonsense, who would name their kid that?”

The girl with the little tiger teeth didn’t believe him and turned to ask Julia Bennett, “Rongyu, what’s your classmate’s name?”

“Him? Chris Brooks.”

Julia Bennett rolled her eyes as she spoke.

“You really are a mischievous kid.”

Emily Clark had rosy cheeks and big, lively eyes that darted around as she spoke. She was only about 1.63 meters tall, but her skin was very fair, like freshly peeled water chestnuts, and when she talked, she showed two rows of cute little teeth.

“I really am called that.”

Chris Brooks explained earnestly, “Han Sheng sounds almost the same as the English word ‘handsome.’ ‘Handsome’ means good-looking, so calling me James Brooks isn’t wrong.”

“Hahaha.”

This time not only Emily Clark laughed, but the other roommates joined in too. Only Julia Bennett felt even sadder inside—Chris Brooks used to only try to make her laugh.

“James Brooks, you’re so smooth. Be honest, have you dated a lot of girls?” Emily Clark asked with a smile.

Chris Brooks shook his head. “At my age, there are very few women who can move my heart anymore.”

He glanced around the girls’ dorm and continued, “You’re the 104th, 105th, 106th, 107th, and 108th.”

“Pfft, you really know how to flatter.”

Emily Clark’s eyes curved with laughter, and the girls in the dorm all giggled. Everyone likes to be complimented.

Julia Bennett counted in her head—there were exactly five people. Chris Brooks had deliberately left her out.

Watching Chris Brooks “flirting” with her roommates, Julia Bennett suddenly felt like her man was cheating on her. She couldn’t hold it in any longer. Taking a deep breath, she walked over and tried to sound calm: “Han Sheng, thank you for helping me with my luggage. You should hurry back and register.”

Chris Brooks nodded. He was planning to leave anyway, but just then Emily Clark came over with a piece of paper: “This is our dorm phone number. Handsome, you can call us.”

“No need.”

Julia Bennett glanced at it and directly refused for Chris Brooks: “If Chris Brooks wants to call, he can only look for me. He knows my cell number.”

Now things got a little awkward. Any girl who could get into Donghai University was bound to be proud.

Emily Clark’s eyes darted around, and she walked up and stuffed the paper into Chris Brooks’s hand, then hopped away.

Julia Bennett looked at Chris Brooks, her eyes slightly red.

Chris Brooks smiled to himself—this 303 dorm had some interesting people.
