Chapter 16

"Because... because..." Henry Clark's question seemed extremely difficult for Little Daisy, as her big eyes showed a troubled expression. After a long while, she finally answered with a look of sudden realization, "Because this servant feels that the Prince is not nearly as bad as the rumors say, and... and the food you made yesterday was really delicious!"

At first, when Henry Clark heard Little Daisy's first reason, he was deeply moved, because it was a pure little girl giving her honest impression of him. But when he heard the second reason, he almost burst out laughing. He hadn't expected that the sweet and sour pork he made yesterday had been eaten by Little Daisy, and that it had even become her standard for judging whether someone was good or bad. It seemed that the reason Little Daisy had taken the initiative to talk to him today was definitely thanks to that plate of sweet and sour pork.

"Little Daisy, do you want to try the soap?" Henry Clark suddenly held out the soap in his hand to Little Daisy and said. This simple and adorable little girl was indeed very likable. Looking at her, Henry Clark couldn't help but think of the students he had taught in his previous life. He wondered how they were doing now, and whether they had a new teacher to continue teaching them.

"Ah~ Me?" Little Daisy opened her eyes wide, her face full of disbelief.

"It's just a bar of soap. If you like it, you can have it. I can make more myself anyway, so it's no big deal!" Henry Clark said generously. Although he had studied painting, he had learned about saponification reactions back in high school, so as long as he had oil and lye, he could make as much soap as he wanted.

"No, no... I can't... This gift is too precious, this servant can't accept it!" Little Daisy hurriedly declined. Soap beans were expensive, and only Henry Clark and Emily Foster in the entire residence were allowed to use them. Moreover, this creamy white soap was far better than the black soap beans, so Little Daisy naturally didn't dare to accept it.

"Just take it, it's a reward from me, the Prince!" Henry Clark said as he stuffed the soap into Little Daisy's hand. Although his status had changed to that of a prince, in his heart he was still the volunteer teacher from the future. Seeing how hard Little Daisy had served him for a month, it was only right to give her something. Besides, soap wasn't anything valuable.

Hearing that it was a reward from the Prince, Little Daisy no longer dared to refuse. She took the soap with both hands, held it under her little nose and sniffed it, then showed a beaming smile, just like the smile Henry Clark's students had when they won first place in exams and received prizes in his previous life. This made Henry Clark sigh again in his heart, thinking he would probably never see those lovely students again in this life.

After washing up, Henry Clark dawdled his way to the dining hall. The daily green vegetables and tofu had already given him a psychological shadow, but he couldn't skip meals, and he didn't want Emily Foster to look down on him, so he could only force himself to eat every day. Little Daisy, who understood Henry Clark's thoughts very well, walked beside him, secretly laughing at his pained expression, and occasionally took out the soap hidden in her sleeve to sniff it.

To Henry Clark's surprise, when he arrived at the dining hall, he found that Emily Foster wasn't there. He breathed a sigh of relief, picked up his bowl and finished his millet porridge. As for the remaining vegetables and tofu, he didn't even want to look at them. As long as Emily Foster wasn't around, no one in the whole residence dared to control him.

After putting down his bowl, Henry Clark quickly left the dining hall as if escaping. What he didn't know was that after he left, Little Daisy looked at the leftover vegetables and tofu with a regretful expression, then sat down and finished all the food herself.

After leaving the dining hall, Henry Clark didn't return to his bedroom. He had been cooped up there every day for the past month and was already bored out of his mind. Although it was still raining today, the rain wasn't heavy, and since he hadn't seen Emily Foster at breakfast, he was in a good mood, so he wandered around the residence.

When Henry Clark reached the northeast corner of the inner residence, he saw a rather large courtyard. There seemed to be voices coming from inside, along with some animal roars, which made Henry Clark very curious, so he walked toward the courtyard.

Chapter 8: The Beast Garden and Battle Aura

In front of him was a large courtyard, with many iron cages inside, holding tigers, leopards, and other fierce beasts. The roars he had heard earlier had come from these animals. As soon as Henry Clark entered, he smelled an unpleasant odor, much like the smell in modern zoos.

On an open space at the entrance of the courtyard, Emily Foster was talking with several maids and old women. Not far from them, outside one of the cages, a fellow with a head full of little braids was holding a small animal and crying softly. The little animal in his arms was also whimpering from time to time, as if in great pain.

Henry Clark knew that some nobles in ancient times liked to keep fierce beasts. For example, Tang dynasty nobles liked to keep leopards, and Song dynasty nobles were probably similar. This place, which looked like a private zoo, was most likely where Henry Clark kept his beasts. He hadn't expected the former Henry Clark to have such a hobby. But to keep so many animals—there were four or five tigers alone—the daily expenses must have been considerable. And this was just one corner of Henry Clark's extravagant lifestyle. No wonder he had to borrow so much money outside.
