With great effort, Emily Harris was carried outside, but after only a few steps, Ben Carter saw several burly, rough-looking men swaggering toward him, their eyes fixed on Emily Harris. Although they tried hard to act nonchalant, Ben Carter instinctively sensed they were coming for him. Sure enough, when he looked more closely, he spotted that playboy in a nearby shop, secretly watching them. It seemed these guys had been sent by him.
Ben Carter felt a wave of helplessness. Although he wasn’t afraid of these men, with Emily Harris in his arms, he didn’t have a third hand free to deal with them.
Just as he was starting to get anxious, a voice came from behind: “Mr. Wen, there’s a taxi over there.”
He turned his head and saw it was the male waiter from the bar. Noticing he was carrying a drunk person and might need help, the waiter had followed him out and flagged down a cab.
Ben Carter quickly said to him, “Alright, help me get her over there!”
With that, the two of them supported Emily Harris and hurried over. The burly men behind, seeing they were about to get in the car, also quickened their pace to catch up. Clearly, their target was set. The waiter, noticing the ill intentions of those men, also sped up.
Just as they got Emily Harris into the car and Ben Carter was about to get in himself, one of the burly men came up, placed a hand on Ben Carter’s shoulder, and said gruffly, “Kid, someone wants to see you. Come with us!”
As he spoke, several men surrounded him.
The waiter, seeing someone was causing trouble for Ben Carter, gave him a look, asking if he needed help. After all, Ben Carter was a friend of their boss, and there were a few tough guys in the bar—they weren’t afraid of these thugs.
Ben Carter shook his head slightly, signaling it wasn’t necessary. He turned to the big guy grabbing his shoulder and said, “Who wants to see me? Tell him to come himself. I don’t have time to waste.”
With that, he turned again to get in the car.
“Kid, don’t refuse a toast only to drink a forfeit! Don’t be ungrateful when we’re being nice!”
With that, he yanked Ben Carter around and, clenching his other hand into a fist, swung it at Ben Carter’s face. They had come to beat up Ben Carter anyway, so any excuse would do. The others stood by, grinning, thinking one man was enough to handle Ben Carter; the extra muscle was just to keep him from escaping.
Ben Carter was spun around easily, but the man’s fist never touched his face. Instead, Ben Carter caught it in one swift motion, gripping the huge fist and pressing it down hard. The pain was so intense that the big guy had to grab his own wrist with his other hand, his body gradually bending until he finally dropped to his knees. This scene stunned everyone—no one expected Ben Carter to be so formidable.
Hearing the big man on his knees groan in pain, the others finally realized they’d run into a tough opponent. Exchanging glances, they all rushed at him together, knowing one-on-one wouldn’t work—they’d have to gang up. It was already late, and the street was deserted. Even if someone saw a group of thugs, they probably wouldn’t dare intervene. The bar’s waiter quietly ran back to get reinforcements.
As the men lunged at him, Ben Carter spun around and flung the kneeling guy in front of him aside. Who knew how much strength it took to toss a grown man like that? The flying body even knocked down another attacker coming at him. This move caught everyone off guard.
Taking advantage of their shock, Ben Carter knocked all the men to the ground with a few swift punches and kicks. He had secretly activated his ability—there was no way these ordinary men could withstand his strength. With a single blow, they were all left writhing on the ground in agony, unable to move, only able to let out low groans. In that split-second, Ben Carter had already withdrawn his power, and no one noticed any trace of his beastly transformation, not even the taxi driver just a few steps away.
Clapping his hands lightly, as if brushing away a few flies, Ben Carter casually glanced in the direction of the playboy, making him tremble with fear. Then he got into the car and told the driver to go, leaving behind a complete mess.
When the bar’s waiter returned with reinforcements, they saw the scene: the burly men were helping each other up from the ground, their faces twisted in pain, while Ben Carter was already speeding away in the car. The waiter couldn’t figure out how Ben Carter had managed to deal with those guys, and those who knew certainly weren’t going to tell him.
Chapter Five: The Beast Within Unleashed
As soon as Ben Carter got in and sat down, the taxi driver turned around, gave him a thumbs up, and praised, “Young man, well done! You’ve got some skills! Those guys always bully people, relying on their numbers. They finally got what they deserved today. Let’s see if they dare to pick on people again. Where are you headed?”
Even though he was still a bit excited, he hadn’t forgotten his job.
Hearing the driver say this, Ben Carter was pleased at first, but then started to get a headache. He didn’t know where Emily Harris lived, but he couldn’t just tell the driver that. So he could only smile helplessly and say, “Sir, just drive ahead for now. I’ll ask and let you know.”
