Andrew is Thomas's personal lawyer, and also Chris's personal lawyer.
He has been serving Thomas since the 1990s, starting out as a junior lawyer at Sidar Law Firm. Later, with Thomas's help, he gradually rose to become a partner at Sidar and one of New York's top lawyers.
Back when Chris was adopted by Thomas, it was also Andrew who handled the paperwork.
He and Thomas have known each other for over thirty years, and he is the person Thomas trusts the most.
In Andrew's eyes, Chris is no different from his own child.
A trace of sorrow flashed in his eyes, and Andrew sighed, saying, "I'm also very saddened by what happened. Believe me, Thomas was just tempted by the devil... Chris, you're a good kid, don't resent him."
"I will."
The car soon arrived at the entrance of Ghost.
Andrew and Chris got out and walked into the funeral home.
Mia was cleaning. When she saw Chris, she hurried over and gave Chris a hug.
"Chris, I'm so glad you're back. You really scared me just now."
Chris comforted Mia a bit and softly asked, "Where are Anthony and Bruno?"
"Mr. Anthony got a call just now and left first. He asked me to tell you he'll contact you tomorrow... Oh, here's your phone, I've fully charged it. Also, Bruno went to Mulberry Street to restock supplies."
Restock?
Chris was momentarily stunned, but quickly understood.
Mulberry Street is New York's funeral supply street, the wholesale hub for all kinds of funeral goods.
"OK, Andrew and I have something to discuss. After you finish cleaning up here, wait for Bruno to come back, then hurry and take care of your own troubles."
"Alright."
Mia nodded, greeted Andrew, and turned to get back to work.
"Uncle Andrew, let's go upstairs."
Andrew smiled and gestured for Chris to lead the way.
The two took the elevator to the third floor. Like an old hand, Andrew walked ahead and entered an office.
It was a suite: the outer room was an office, and inside was a bedroom.
Andrew took a bottle of Johnnie Walker from the liquor cabinet, poured himself a glass, and sat down on the sofa.
"Chris, have a seat."
He was clearly a frequent visitor here, so everything felt very familiar.
Chris smiled and sat down beside him.
"In 2012, Thomas made a will; but last April, he made another amendment. According to his wishes, all his assets are to be inherited by you after his death. Besides this funeral home and the house he currently lives in, he owns two apartment buildings in Sheepshead Bay—one is the Greenfield Apartments next to Kings Plaza, and the other is on Ocean Avenue, the Chris Apartments next to the medical center."
"The Chris Apartments?"
Chris asked in surprise, "Is that the Chris Apartments behind the aquarium?"
"Yes!"
"That's Thomas's property?"
"Yup!"
"Every time I pass the aquarium, I see it. Tony even asked me once if that Chris had anything to do with me."
Andrew laughed heartily, raised his glass, and took a big sip.
"Those two apartment buildings were bought by Thomas thirty years ago, when I was just a rookie intern. That was also my first assignment after starting my career. They were cheap back then, but now... they're probably worth over thirty million."
Chris nodded to show he understood.
"Both apartment buildings are currently rented out, bringing in a total monthly rent of eighty-seven thousand dollars. This money is all deposited in a trust fund account that Thomas set up for you, totaling three million seven hundred forty thousand dollars."
After speaking, Andrew took out a stack of documents from his briefcase.
"In addition, Thomas has three houses in the Brooklyn Park area and two in Flushing, with a total value of about twenty-seven million. Of these, three in Brooklyn and one in Flushing are rented out, with a monthly rent of thirty-six thousand dollars. These rents are credited to another trust fund in your name. Also, Thomas owns two properties in Los Angeles, one in San Francisco, and one in Miami."
As he spoke, he handed the documents to Chris.
"Thomas has excellent credit and no debts. He has one million three hundred forty thousand dollars in his Wells Fargo account, plus about eight million dollars in bonds and stocks. Compared to his real estate, his cash isn't much. OK, that's all his assets, totaling about seventy-eight million dollars."
According to the original memories, seventy-eight million dollars is definitely a huge fortune.
But Chris didn't feel much about it.
"Uncle Andrew, what about the estate tax on this inheritance..."
"Don't worry about that, Thomas already made arrangements. You don't have to worry about being unable to pay the estate tax."
"No, I have a question. How much money do I actually have right now?"
"You?"
"Not counting what Thomas left me."
"Thomas set up three trust funds for you during his lifetime."
