Chapter 16

“Like the Great Emperor of the North Wind, who led three thousand iron cavalry to sweep across the northern wastelands of the demon race, crossed the Tiancang Mountains straight into the Western Regions, allowing the human race there to flourish and prosper to this day…”

“And then there was Immortal Lord Yun, who established the Three Halls of Yun Prefecture, destroyed the demon god Yunmo, and turned the once demon-infested lands into our human Yun Prefecture…”

“Emperor Chengyang once said, this world will ultimately belong to our human race. Generation after generation of immortals have bathed the Nine Provinces in blood, fought across the Five Domains, protected the lives of our people, and defended our territory. Only then have countless mortals enjoyed peace and tranquility, and this must be remembered.”

“It is not that the four corners of the world are peaceful, but that someone is shedding blood to protect them.”

“Our Great Qian Emperor, moved by the sacrifices of the human ancestors through the ages, often laments that the deeds of the immortals are frequently forgotten. Thus, he ordered me, the Supervisor of the Skytower, to record the deeds of our human immortals, dividing them into two books, ‘Immortals and Demons of the Nine Provinces’ and ‘Heaven’s Chosen of the Five Domains’, to be widely circulated throughout the Five Domains, so that all human beings may remember the contributions of the immortals through the generations.”

Henry Young slowly flipped through the pages.

He had actually read the contents of this first page many times over the past few years, but every time he opened it, he couldn’t help but feel his blood boil, as if witnessing those mighty immortals throughout human history slaying demon kings and demon gods.

“Immortals…” Deep inside, Henry Young harbored a faint longing.

The Martial Academy taught both the civil and martial arts. Henry Young’s martial cultivation was considered top among his peers, but his literary skills were mediocre at best. When it came to poetry and literature, he was almost completely clueless.

However, he had loved reading history books since childhood, especially stories about the deeds of immortals.

History books were easy to find—there were plenty in the Martial Academy—but very few people wrote about the deeds of immortals. For most ordinary people, immortals… were somewhat distant, almost mythical.

It was these two books, “Immortals and Demons of the Nine Provinces” and “Heaven’s Chosen of the Five Domains,” that broadened Henry Young’s horizons and allowed him a glimpse into the world of immortals.

“Immortals and Demons of the Nine Provinces” was published monthly, mainly recounting the deeds of immortals in the Central Plains’ Nine Provinces, and was Henry Young’s favorite.

“Heaven’s Chosen of the Five Domains” was published once a year, mostly covering major events across the Five Domains. Over the past few years, Henry Young had only seen two copies from his teacher, so his impression was not as deep.

From these books,

Henry Young learned a lot.

For example, he learned that in ancient times, the human race was oppressed and enslaved by the demon race. But since the time of Emperor Chengyang, for the past six thousand years, the world—especially the Central Plains’ Nine Provinces—had long become the stronghold of the human race, and the demon race could no longer stir up great waves.

In the other four domains, immortals had likewise established new nations and immortal sects. All of this was fought for, generation after generation, by immortals who risked their lives.

“Let’s see what this issue talks about.” Henry Young continued flipping through the pages.

“On August 16th, in the Tiefu Mountains of Liangzhou, Great Liang Empire, a ‘Level Two Beast Tide’ broke out. The Ninth Army stationed in Liangzhou went to assist… In Wuxian City, Weishui County, the city fell, and over ninety thousand human civilians were killed or injured. ‘Sage Donald Carter’ slew two demon kings by the Xuanluo River in the Tiefu Mountains…”

“On August 18th, the Immortal Crowning Ceremony was held at Xingyan Palace, Xianzong Star, Great Qian Empire. The immortals crowned were ‘Sage Benjamin York’ and ‘Sage Howard’—a blessing for our human race.”

“On August 21st, a ‘Level One Beast Tide’ erupted in the Dongyan Mountains of Yangzhou. Likewise, sea demons attacked along the Ningjiang Pass. Eighteen immortals from Xuyang and the two provinces descended to help the army slay demons, ultimately killing three demon kings and countless great demons. However, ‘Sage Lynn Hughes’ unfortunately fell in this beast tide battle…”

“On September 9th, ‘Sage Charles Young’ and ‘Sage Clark’, after slaying two demon kings in early August, continued to patrol the Ningyang and Heilong Lake areas, slaying countless great demons over dozens of days…”

Henry Young slowly read through these reports. Many of the immortals’ deeds, if ordinary, were only briefly mentioned; if extremely important, they would be described in greater detail.

If an immortal unfortunately fell in a beast tide battle, there would be a lengthy account of that immortal’s life story.

Because that would be the last time this immortal appeared in the books.

“Just from August 15th to September 15th, in one month, there were twelve beast tide wars across the Nine Provinces, including two Level One beast tide battlefields.” Henry Young sighed inwardly.

A beast tide was when demon kings and great demons with awakened intelligence led countless demon beasts to attack human territories and cities. It was a battlefield between two races, extremely brutal.

Henry Young did a quick calculation. In just this one month, eleven demon kings fell at the hands of human immortals, but the human race also lost two immortals.

One could imagine how fierce the war was.

“Battles rage on, yet most ordinary people feel little of it. The control that our Great Qian and the northern Great Liang have over their territories is evident.” Henry Young thought to himself. “The flood dragon I saw slain in the city today, the one that was about to transform into a dragon, must have been killed by Charles Young and Clifford Clark, those two immortals.”

This disturbance in Ningyang and Heilong Lake could only be considered a Level Two beast tide. Although no county city was breached, the impact caused by the flood disaster was no less than that of a Level One beast tide.

Whoosh~

Henry Young turned to the third-to-last page.

The front of “Immortals and Demons of the Nine Provinces” always recounted the deeds of immortals, but at the end of each issue, an immortal would be invited to share their own cultivation journey.

This time, it was ‘Sage Kyle Hughes’ who was invited to tell his story.
