Chapter 8

“Congratulations, your game character has been created successfully! There are still twenty-one minutes until the game starts, please wait patiently!”

Next came another boring wait; I had never experienced time passing so slowly!

Back in my student days, everyone played together, but now, it’s just me left, entering Ling Tong all alone. I don’t even know if I’ll ever meet any old friends again!

Twenty minutes later, a pleasant chime sounded in my ears, and the countdown finally started from 60 seconds!

Rumor has it that players who enter the game first can get equipment and lucky draws, so I must seize this opportunity!

So, I stared intently at the countdown, ready to enter the game at any moment!

  “Ding!”

“System prompt: Dear player, please note, there are only 10 seconds left until the game starts!”

  “9!”

  “8!”

  “7!”

  ……

  “3!”

  “2!”

  “1!”

“System prompt: The game is now officially open!”

I had already put the system chime out of my mind. The moment the countdown hit zero, I used my mind to enter the game!

A bright light flashed before my eyes, and I found myself in a small village. It looked like the Stone Age, with buildings so primitive it was enough to drive anyone crazy!

  “Ding!”

“System prompt: Hello, you are the 6th player to enter the game and have received 100 experience points!”

I was stunned for a moment, then felt a warm sensation all over as golden light rained down—I actually leveled up immediately!

I opened my character stats and saw my experience was at 0. Looks like it takes exactly 100 experience points to go from level 1 to level 2!

A little disappointed—so there’s no divine artifact or attribute bonus. Still, jumping straight to level 2 isn’t bad; at least it saves a few minutes!

I checked my inventory: only a rough wooden stick and a piece of cloth clothing that barely covered anything.

  【Damaged Wooden Stick】 (Rough Quality)

  Attack: 0-1

  Required Level: 0

  【Rough Cloth Garment】 (Rough Quality)

  Defense: +1

  Required Level: 0

  ……

Hmm, two decent pieces of equipment. Might as well put them on!

So, I grabbed the wooden stick, put on the cloth garment, and headed out to level up. At this moment, white light flashed repeatedly at the teleportation array as a large number of newbie players came online. I had to leave the village quickly, or I might not even get a chance to kill any monsters!

Volume One: The Comeback Chapter 6 Goblin Battle Axe

After leaving the village, I looked out and saw the vast forest filled with little green monsters, but not a single player in sight. Looking back, the players from the newbie village were already swarming out!

I dashed forward immediately. Just as I was about to get started, I noticed a young girl in rough linen clothes standing not far away. She kept glancing around, as if looking for help!

“Hmm? Looks like there’s a quest!”

I was the first to leave the village, so I didn’t hesitate and ran over right away.

When I reached the NPC girl, she said to me, “Grandpa lost his axe while chopping wood recently. I heard it was taken by some nasty little goblins! Big brother, can you help me get Grandpa’s axe back?”

  “Ding~!”

System prompt: Do you want to accept the quest 【Collect Goblin Battle Axes】?

  ……

How could I refuse such a good thing?!

I immediately clicked accept, and another system chime sounded—

  “Ding~!”

System prompt: You have accepted the quest 【Collect Goblin Battle Axes】! (Beginner quest, current difficulty 10)

Quest details: Help the girl Little Lily find the lost axe. The axe should be on the goblins outside the village. Kill goblins and collect 10 battle axes from them!

I was a bit stunned. She clearly said Little Lily’s grandpa only lost one axe, but now I have to collect 10 of them. As expected, this is right up my alley—just like me, doing business with nothing but empty hands!

After talking to me, the girl Little Lily sat down under a big tree, and it seemed the quest could no longer be accepted.

So I packed up and went to deal with those goblins first!

Just then, a goblin very close to me noticed that I, someone who shouldn’t be here, was around. It immediately charged at me with its axe raised. Its short body looked like a little winter melon, and it was even wearing a ridiculous green helmet!

I took a look and found that these low-level monsters’ stats were easy to see—

  【Little Goblin】 (Normal Monster)

  Level: 1

  Attack: 1-3

  Defense: 1

  HP: 100

  ……

The little goblin’s attack is only 1-3. With my 2 points of defense, it shouldn’t be too hard to fight!

So I rushed forward, swung my short stick, and smacked the goblin hard on the head!

  “Bang!”

With a crisp sound, the number “12” floated above the goblin’s head!

The goblin’s axe also slowly landed on my shoulder, stinging a bit and costing me 5 HP!

Fortunately, my HP isn’t much different from the goblin’s, so I should be able to hold out!

The important thing is, my attack speed is much faster than the goblin’s. As a beginner monster, a goblin naturally can’t one-shot a player!
