Chapter 16

I finished flipping through this crappy thing in no time. As for the battle aura, I only practiced it for a little while, but when I realized it wasn’t getting me anywhere, I just tossed the book aside and went out for a stroll.

Ever since I arrived in the city, I haven’t had a real chance to explore it. How can I get by if I don’t understand the local customs and culture?

Walking down the main avenue wide enough for three carriages to go side by side, I saw that most of the buildings on either side were about two stories high, mostly made of earth and stone. As for the architectural style—well, it was basically all ancient European. People’s clothing was also pretty similar to what you’d see in old Europe. The women’s tops were relatively tight, perfectly showing off the beauty of their upper bodies, while their lower halves were completely hidden by wide skirts, leaving men to imagine endlessly about what was underneath after seeing the top half.

Looking at all the beautiful women passing by, I could barely contain my excitement!

“Hit him! Hit him!” A burst of shouting came from the crowd. For someone like me who loves a commotion, how could I miss out on this? I quickly ran to the edge of the crowd, stood on tiptoe, stretched my neck, and tried my best to see inside.

In the center of the crowd, a few burly young men were beating up a well-dressed youth. The boy desperately shielded his head with his hands, curling up and staying silent as they kicked him over and over.

“Beat him harder! Let this brat try dining and dashing again!” Next to the big guys was a sexy young woman in her twenties, with curves in all the right places, wearing a tight leopard-print outfit and her long hair tied behind her head. One hand on her hip, the other pointing at the well-dressed youth, she shouted. Her loud voice made the two peaches on her chest tremble slightly.

Damn! This chick is seriously spicy! But right now, the important thing is to save the kid getting beaten up. Judging by his fancy clothes, he definitely looks like a fallen rich kid.

“Stooooop!” I shouted, striding slowly into the crowd in the standard white robe uniform issued by the church.

“God loves all people… We are all God’s children and should love one another.” I imitated Pastor Dent’s tone, putting on a solemn face as I spoke slowly. I was hoping to get the kid out of there without having to pay for his meal.

“Respected servant of God, I make a living running a restaurant. If all my customers ate without paying, I’d be dead and you’d be singing hymns at my grave in a few days.” The sexy woman looked at my unique church-issued white robe, with an olive branch embroidered on the chest, and immediately recognized my identity, replying without hesitation.

“How about this, why don’t you pay his bill?” Seeing that my expression didn’t change, the sexy woman realized I was about to come up with another excuse, so she cut me off before I could speak.

Chapter 11: Repaying Kindness with Enmity

She actually put me on the spot!? I looked at the youth lying on the ground—he didn’t look poor at all. That noble air about him was something a rascal like me could never fake. After a fierce internal struggle, I decided to invest in this little “dine and dash” incident.

“God loves all people. As a servant of God, of course I’ll help this friend pay for his meal.”

“Alright! He ate two blue gold coins’ worth. Please pay up.” The hot chick stretched out her right hand in front of me and said something so shocking it could make the heavens weep. About two-thirds of the onlookers collapsed on the spot when they heard it. The rest, like me, just had stronger nerves.

“Two blue gold coins!? Are you selling dragon meat here?” I asked, patting my wallet that only had one blue gold coin in it.

The hot chick giggled and said, “Dragon meat? No one in this world would sell that. But what he ate was a dragon’s inferior product—earth drake lizard meat! So, are you paying or not? If not, I’ll start beating people up!”

Earth drake lizard? What the heck is that? Whatever, the main thing now is to bluff my way through this. I boldly pulled out my gold-threaded wallet from my robe pocket, waved it in front of her, and said with swagger, “Take it yourself, just give it back when you’re done! Don’t be scared by how many blue gold coins are in there!” With that, I tossed the wallet into the air.

While everyone’s eyes were glued to the spinning wallet, I dashed over to the guy lying on the ground, grabbed his arm, and dragged him out of the crowd.

Just as we broke free, I heard the chick shout behind us, “Catch those two bastards! There’s only one blue gold coin in here! Whoever catches them, I’ll give you this blue gold coin as a reward!”

One blue gold coin! That’s enough to feed an ordinary family for three months. How could people not be tempted? Instantly, the street became a frenzy. I was dragging someone and running for my life, while a whole mob chased after us, with even bystanders joining the pursuit.

“This servant of God, why don’t we just stop and let them beat us up to vent their anger?” The youth I’d just rescued, who clearly had no idea what getting beaten up felt like, tried to negotiate with me.
