Chapter 18

William Clark spoke bluntly: "I died, killed by a falling object from high above, but this falling object came from a supernatural event—something like a ghost or a curse killed me."

As William Clark started the topic, the others also began talking about their own deaths. For example, John and one of the women comforting a child—they were both employees at this bank. John was a security guard, and the woman was some kind of manager. They both died in a supernatural event, and the rest were much the same: either they encountered monsters, or were killed by stray bullets or car accidents during monster-related incidents.

They all remembered their own deaths, and had seen their own corpses with their own eyes. Then, they were pulled down by a tremendous force and brought to this afterlife.

The tall, thin man still shouted unwillingly, "But this is New York! Shouldn't the afterlife be something like the underworld? Why is the afterlife New York City? Weren't we kidnapped by aliens, or is this some government conspiracy, like a lab leak or something?"

Everyone started talking at once. Just then, the entire vault suddenly shook violently, and a huge booming sound echoed from the metal walls. Instantly, everyone fell silent, staring fixedly at the metal wall of the vault. For the next ten minutes or so, the booming and shaking continued on and off, only gradually subsiding and finally falling completely silent.

Only then did everyone finally relax. There was no doubt—the human-faced dog couldn't break through the vault wall, not even the ten-meter-long human-faced dog king.

Among the adults staying in the vault, a frail young man with glasses said, "Those monsters are just flesh and blood. Unless they have supernatural powers, how could they possibly break this alloy? Everyone, we were just caught off guard. Those monsters aren't actually as strong as we imagined!"

The tall, thin man immediately retorted, "If you think you're so tough, why don't you go out there? It's easy to talk from behind. We killed two monsters to save the kids. If you think they're not that strong, why don't you go kill one yourself?"

The frail young man immediately blushed. The tall, thin man was about to continue, but William Clark reached out and stopped him, so he fell silent. William Clark said, "He's right. These monsters really aren't that formidable. Judging by their size, speed, and attack methods, they're about on par with tigers or lions. The only difference is that tigers and lions aren't as aggressive, and it's unlikely they'd hunt in packs of a dozen or more. The only exception is that largest human-faced dog—its size far exceeds any existing land animal. You could say its strength is at the level of a dinosaur, but it's still just physically powerful. The fact that they can't break through this vault says it all."

The frail young man jumped up excitedly. He ran to William Clark, reached out his hand, and said, "Adrian Young, sir, you're absolutely right! These monsters really aren't scary. They've lost all their supernatural powers from the world of the living. They're no longer invulnerable, and there are no curses or anything like that. They're just beasts in a different form. We can kill them!"

William Clark shook hands with Adrian, then smiled wryly and said, "But here's the key problem: firearms don't work. You all know that, right?"

John shook the gun in his hand and said, "Yeah, all the gunpowder in the bullets has changed. Guns don't work. With just our bodies, we can't fight those monsters."

Adrian immediately slumped down in despair and said, "Oh God, is this our punishment? Is Judgment Day coming?"

At this moment, the tall, thin man suddenly pointed at William Clark and said, "No, his pistol can fire. No, that's not a pistol—that's some terrifying high-tech weapon from the future! He shot out ball lightning! That's how we killed two monsters!"

William Clark's eyebrows twitched, and he looked at the tall, thin man, who had already instinctively hidden behind someone else, still talking about the wonders of William Clark's pistol and the power of the ball lightning.

Everyone turned their gaze to William Clark, and as thoughts flashed through his mind, he calmly removed the magazine from his pistol, then pinched a colorless light particle between his fingers, holding it out to the others and saying, "Can you see what's in my hand?"

Everyone looked confused, and John deliberately or unintentionally shielded the others behind him, while Adrian instinctively took a few steps back.

"You’re all hungry and thirsty, right?"

After confirming again that they couldn't see the colorless light particle, William Clark pressed his palm to the ground.

The next second, a small bottle of mineral water and a long loaf of bread appeared on the floor.

Chapter Ten: Five Loaves and Two Fish

William Clark didn't trust these white and black people.

To put it simply, he didn't trust Americans!

He had just arrived in this afterlife, and was immediately stabbed in the back.
