Chapter 4

Before Eric Ford could explain, "Ding!" The system voice sounded again: "Player Eric Ford selected 'which one', but the system could not find any internal skills, martial arts, mental techniques, ultimate skills, or equipment with that name. Searching for similar meanings, found 'random'."

"Ding! Player Eric Ford has learned the first move of the ultimate skill 'Wind Sweeps the World'!" Before Eric Ford could react, there was another chime.

"Ding! Eric Ford is the first to complete the hidden quest in 'A Life in Jianghu'. The system will reward you randomly!"

"Ding! Eric Ford has learned the mental technique 'Mind's Eye'!"

Eric Ford was completely stunned by all the 'dings', dumbly waiting for a while longer. When no more 'dings' came, he mechanically checked the things he had unintentionally learned.

"Wind Sweeps the World": Ultimate movement skill. Seven moves in total, each move has ten levels.

First move, Lightning Speed, currently at level one, movement +100%;

Second move, third move, fourth move, fifth move, sixth move, seventh move, not yet learned.

"Mind's Eye": Supportive mental technique. Ten levels in total, currently at level one, attack speed +50%, accuracy +50%.

What does all this mean? Eric Ford still didn't really understand the game. Oh well, he's been playing for a long time anyway, better head back first and ask Brian and the others when they wake up.

With that thought, Kevin Young logged out of the game. Standing up, he really did feel a bit tired. He staggered over to the counter, where the boss was as enthusiastic as ever: "Done for now? So, how was it, pretty fun, right?"

"Yeah, it's kind of interesting!"

"Heh, otherwise you wouldn't have played for over ten hours straight! At least take a break to eat something!"

"What, has it really been that long?"

"Yeah, just over 11 hours. I won't charge you for the extra bit!" the boss said generously.

"Thanks!" Kevin Young replied politely, but was muttering to himself inside, Time passed so quickly, I didn't even notice. Thinking back, he really did spend a lot of time running around in the game. Guess it's his own fault for not knowing anything and having to figure everything out by himself!

Chapter 4: The First Lesson of Jianghu

After leaving the internet café, sure enough, it was almost dark. He had left when the sun rose and returned when it set—his schedule was now completely out of sync with the sun.

Back at the dorm, the Leader, Brian, and Paul Brooks had just gotten up and were making instant noodles, still arguing non-stop about "Jianghu".

"Aiya, I'm exhausted. I went out this morning and played that 'Jianghu' game you guys talked about. Played all day!" Kevin Young shouted at the three of them.

"What, you played 'Jianghu'?" The three of them responded almost in unison.

Kevin Young nodded.

"What level are you?" asked the Leader. "Got any good gear?" asked Brian. "What skills did you train?" asked Paul Brooks. This time, the three of them actually asked different questions.

"Uh, who should I answer first?" Kevin Young couldn't help but laugh. He'd never seen them this enthusiastic about studying.

"One at a time," the Leader replied.

"I haven't started leveling yet, just left the newbie village; as for gear, I have nothing at all. Skills, well, I did learn two!"

"What did you learn?" Again, they spoke in unison.

"'Wind Sweeps the World' and 'Mind's Eye'!"

"What? Never heard of those!" Paul Brooks muttered.

"Yeah, you're just making stuff up!" Brian laughed so hard he could barely breathe. "You even made up the names pretty well!"

"If I'm lying, I'm a dog!" Kevin Young swore a little oath.

"Really? How did you learn them? Tell us!" the Leader asked.

Kevin Young briefly recounted how he did the quest.

The three listened, nodding frequently. Paul Brooks sighed, "So you have to do all the quests in the newbie village! We never did that! Everyone just wanted to leave as soon as possible. If it weren't for having to help the village chief, I wouldn't have done any!"

"Yeah, so that's how it is. Next time, let's go back and try again, see if we can still trigger it!" said the Leader.

"And then, you just picked your two skills?" Brian asked.

"Damn, don't get me started!" With that, Kevin Young recounted what happened next.

"Ah... hahaha..." After hearing Kevin Young's story, Brian burst out laughing again. "You really are unlucky!"

"Sigh, this must be a bug with the smart NPCs. You're really unfortunate!" the Leader commented.

"But you just said the system gave you one skill, so how did you get two?" Paul Brooks asked, puzzled.

"Oh, it randomly gave me 'Wind Sweeps the World', and 'Mind's Eye' was an extra reward. The system said I was the first to complete the game's hidden quest, so it gave me another one at random..."

"What, the system said you were the first to complete the hidden quest?" Brian interrupted Kevin Young, jumping up. "So many people have done that quest, how could you be the first!"

He looked over at the Leader and Paul Brooks. The two of them were also staring at each other in confusion.

"How should I know!" Kevin Young was surprised by Brian's reaction.
