Chapter 13

Brian White’s flying sword was of extremely poor quality, containing only two layers of restrictions, and it didn’t quite match the Red City Daoist arts. Coupled with Brian White’s meager magical power, even the most peerless swordsmanship could hardly unleash any real might. Of course, things were different now.

Chapter Ten: The Five Lusts and Seven Treasures

Apart from the Dual-Aspect Ring, the other six treasures of the William Parker each had their own renown.

Among them was a bone bead, white as death and the size of a fist, from which the faint wails of countless vengeful spirits could be heard. Who knows how many living beings’ corpses had been refined to make it? Among the seven treasures of the William Parker, this was the most ferocious. This sinister artifact was the White Bone Relic, ranked first in the Xuanming Codex, and it was this item that reminded Brian White of the origins of the Xuanming Codex. In the past, the Red City Patriarch John Brooks had once told his disciples about the strengths and weaknesses of the major sects’ cultivation methods, and had specifically mentioned this item. When the White Bone Relic was fully refined, it could transform into a White Bone Demon God, possessing boundless magical powers and unmatched might. If one could go further and communicate with the Heavenly Demon, refining it into the White Bone Relic, then this item would become the number one demonic treasure—the Heavenly Demon Relic—whose power would be unrivaled under the heavens. In the present age, aside from a handful of rare immortal treasures, nothing could stand against it.

However, even the Xuanming Sect’s founder Matthew Harris had failed to refine the Heavenly Demon Relic, let alone his other disciples.

There was also a small white bone bridge, ranked just below the White Bone Relic in the Xuanming Codex, called the Bridge of Forgetfulness. It was a treasure for flying and escaping, adept at connecting yin and yang and traversing the underworld. If this bridge could be fully refined, then in magical duels, one would always remain undefeated; no matter how powerful the enemy, they could never trap the user, who could escape at will.

Both of these treasures required the refinement of countless souls to increase their power. In order to refine these two treasure embryos, the William Parker had harmed countless people, yet it was still not enough to fully refine them to the point where they could merge with his body. Finding the process too troublesome, he switched to using the flying sword as his life-bound artifact. If not for his accumulated evil and destined retribution, he might not have died at the hands of a mere novice cultivator.

The other four treasure embryos were not so vicious.

One was called the Five-Colored Bracelet, a treasure of the five elements. Brian White, having inherited David Stone’s memories, knew that five-element treasures were most popular in the Southern Toad Continent. After all, all things are born of the five elements, making materials easy to find, and such treasures were not easily countered by other spells or artifacts. The Xuanming Sect was famous for its artifact refinement, and their methods were unique. Thus, this Five-Colored Bracelet was a top-tier five-element treasure, able to emit the great divine light of the five elements, combining offense and defense with endless marvels. The deeper it was refined, the greater its power.

This Five-Colored Bracelet was also highly ranked in the Xuanming Codex, coming after the Dual-Aspect Ring, at sixth place.

Another treasure was the Black Fiend Hook, forged from the yin fiend energy accumulated underground over hundreds of millions of years, tempered with hundreds of deadly poisons, repeatedly refined and distilled. It was extremely sinister. Although not highly ranked in the Xuanming Codex—only fourteenth—it was one of the seventeen most poisonous heterodox flying swords in the world, and a supreme treasure among the unorthodox.

The last two were rather proper treasures. One was the Rosy Cloud Chain, made from the light of dawn and dusk and refined from multicolored clouds. The other was the Yimu Flying Sword, forged from ancient wood hundreds or even thousands of years old. The Rosy Cloud Chain could both attack and defend, and could be used for flight and escape. Though its power was below that of the Black Fiend Hook, its five-colored radiance was beautiful and righteous, ranking seventeenth in the Xuanming Codex. The Yimu Flying Sword was actually a set of swords, notable for their great number. The Yimu energy was especially good for nourishing life, so those who used this as their life-bound artifact could easily extend their lifespan. However, its killing power was not great, so it ranked nineteenth in the Xuanming Codex, the last among the treasures.

All these treasure embryos had their own refining methods. Though David Stone was of poor aptitude, he had received the true teachings of the Red City Patriarch John Brooks, and his foundation in Daoist arts was solid. Brian White, having inherited David Stone’s cultivation, found it not difficult to follow suit in refining these artifacts.

Brian White pondered secretly, thinking, “That William Parker is not truly dead yet; his soul is still out there. If he discovers this and uses magic to summon these treasures, they might return to their original owner. I’d better not rush to examine Cynthia Parker’s stolen goods. I should refine these seven treasures first. I’ll start with the Dual-Aspect Ring…”

If the William Parker knew at this moment that, after begging countless peers and gathering endless materials with great effort, the treasure embryos he had painstakingly refined were now being picked over and slowly absorbed by someone else, his heart would surely bleed. Alas, he was still wandering atop Jietian Peak, plotting to collude with the traitor “David Stone” to steal the Red City Patriarch’s Elixir of False Appearance. All his thoughts were on how to have his way with Cynthia Parker, never realizing that his lover had already been killed, his own body lost, and his treasures fallen into a thief’s hands. If he wanted to be intimate with Cynthia Parker, he could only do so as a ghost, not in the flesh.

After Brian White finished refining the Dual-Aspect Ring, he moved on to the White Bone Relic, then the Bridge of Forgetfulness, the Five-Colored Bracelet… When he finally began refining the last set, the Yimu Flying Swords, the set of divine swords suddenly trembled. Although Brian White quickly suppressed them with bursts of true energy, he realized that his actions had already given himself away.
