Chapter 13

The little girl turned her head to look behind her.

"Don't look!"

Eric Carter stepped forward and reached out to cover the little girl's eyes. No one knew what would happen if she saw her own corpse lying on the hospital bed.

Would she break down?

Would she realize she was dead and then simply vanish?

When Eric Carter's hand touched the little girl's body, his fingernails grew slightly warm—not longer or darker, but he could feel the heat. At the same time, the little girl's body began to distort, transforming into a ring of light that circled around Eric Carter's fingertips. Clearly, no one else could see this light.

"Move aside, she can still be saved!" Eric Carter rushed toward the hospital bed again.

"Ryan Cooper!" Dr. Sullivan's chest heaved. The dead were already gone, and she didn't know why her husband was still rambling on like a madman. Besides, her husband had studied civil engineering, which had nothing to do with medicine.

This time, when Eric Carter rushed over, the two young nurses didn't dare stop him. Eric Carter lifted the white sheet and placed his hands on the girl's chest.

Yes, this was exactly how he had come back to life before.

Your soul has come out,

But it can still go back in,

You can live!

When he saw the light at his fingertips fully enter the girl's body, Eric Carter began CPR, stacking his hands and pressing down on the girl's chest.

"Wake up!"

"Wake up!"

The two nurses didn't dare approach and both looked at Dr. Sullivan.

"She's dead."

Dr. Sullivan walked over to Eric Carter and said.

"The golden window for resuscitation isn't over yet. I've been keeping track of the time," Eric Carter shouted as he continued pressing, "She can live, she can live!"

Dr. Sullivan pressed her lips together, then directly pushed Eric Carter aside and began pressing her own hands on the girl's chest.

"You're using too much force. She has injuries. Claire, reconnect the equipment and continue the resuscitation."

Eric Carter was pushed aside, but he wasn't angry. He just kept staring at the little girl on the hospital bed.

The only consolation was probably that the parents had been stopped by the traffic police, and with so many children making noise outside, no one was paying attention to what was happening here.

Dr. Sullivan continued pressing, sweat beading on her forehead. She didn't know why she was going crazy with this man, but for some reason, she had just seen something unusual in his eyes.

And this man was her husband. Today, though, she found him hard to read.

The equipment was reconnected, but the monitor still showed a flat line.

The two young nurses stood by, at a loss.

Was she beyond saving?

Even after putting the soul back in,

Was she still beyond saving?

A sense of loss and regret welled up in Eric Carter's heart.

"Beep... beep... beep..."

At that moment,

The previously flat line suddenly rippled.

Dr. Sullivan stared at the monitor in shock.

Was this

A medical miracle?

……

By the time they drove home from the hospital, it was already evening. Eric Carter sat in the passenger seat while Dr. Sullivan drove. The two of them remained silent.

Silence seemed to be the norm in their relationship. Usually, it was Ryan Cooper who tried to break the silence, but today, it was Dr. Sullivan.

"Have you studied medicine?"

"No."

"Your technique just now was very professional," Dr. Sullivan could tell.

"I had some training when I got my driver's license," Eric Carter made up a reason.

"But you don't have a driver's license," Dr. Sullivan frowned slightly.

"..." Eric Carter.

Hmm, in his heart, Eric Carter silently despised Ryan Cooper once again.

Dr. Sullivan didn't plan to press further and simply said, "Thank you for your persistence today."

"No need to thank me," Eric Carter waved his hand. As... at least in his heart, he still considered himself a doctor. Saving a patient really didn't require thanks.

The girl still hadn't woken up and was still unconscious, but at least there was hope now.

"I'll thank you on behalf of that girl," Dr. Sullivan glanced at her phone, "It's almost eight. My parents are still waiting for us to come home for dinner."

Parents?

Eric Carter suddenly felt a headache coming on.

Was he about to meet his mother- and father-in-law?

The car drove into a high-end residential complex. Tongcheng was close to Shanghai, geographically located at the opposite end of the Yangtze River's mouth from Shanghai. Although it wasn't as insanely expensive as Shanghai, housing prices here weren't cheap either.

Dr. Sullivan parked the car and walked inside, with Eric Carter following behind. They entered the elevator together and got out together. Dr. Sullivan took out her keys and opened a door.

The apartment was nicely decorated, a duplex layout. In fact, you could tell from the car Dr. Sullivan drove that the Lin family's financial situation was quite good.

Of course, his current status as a "live-in son-in-law" was further proof. After all, a family without some money and confidence wouldn't be able to take in a live-in son-in-law.

On the living room sofa, an elderly man in a sweater with graying hair was sitting and watching TV—a rebroadcast of the evening news, which he was watching with great interest.
