“Shit!” Edward White cursed inwardly, but had no choice but to walk over and obey the other party’s orders, because among the people opposite was a baron. In the world of Light and Darkness Martial Arts, being one rank higher meant the other party held the power of life and death over you, and could take your life without any reason at all.
“Baron, what are your orders?” Edward White asked helplessly.
“Lord Marlow is going to slay the Giant Rock Demon. All of you must follow him and are responsible for clearing out the Small Rock Demons.” The lackey shouted at everyone, flaunting his authority.
“Damn it, making us, who don’t even have weapons, go deal with the Small Rock Demons—this is clearly treating us as cannon fodder.” Edward White cursed inwardly.
The Giant Rock Demon was famous around Daolun City, possessing the strength of a baron. After being killed, it would only resurrect in the Undying Altar after about a month.
Along with the resurrection of the Giant Rock Demon, there would also be a group of less than a hundred Small Rock Demons. Although each was only at the soldier level, their bodies were hard as stone and they possessed immense strength. Moreover, the Small Rock Demons always acted in groups, so ordinary people were no match for them.
Many barons liked to hunt the Giant Rock Demon because it would drop a full-body armor called “Giant Rock Demon’s Hardness.” It was a baron-level piece of equipment, but its toughness was astonishing, almost comparable to a viscount’s armor, so many barons wanted to own one.
Chapter Two: The Pure White Knight’s Two-Handed Greatsword
A group of several hundred people marched mightily toward the valley where the Giant Rock Demon resided. Except for Baron Marlow and a few of his close followers, everyone else was like Edward White, cannon fodder temporarily rounded up.
The valley was barren, not a single blade of grass, with exposed blackish rocks everywhere. All around the valley were Small Rock Demons, two meters tall, their bodies entirely made of stone. A gigantic Rock Demon, over five meters tall, was sitting atop a huge boulder, looking as if it were asleep.
“You, you, you... and you... charge into the valley and kill those Small Rock Demons.” Baron Marlow shouted, pointing at the group of cannon fodder.
Edward White had no choice but to charge into the valley with the others. Most of these people had no weapons at all, and the few who did only had some useless junk, so how could they possibly defeat those incredibly strong Small Rock Demons?
“What should I do? Charging in like this is no different from seeking death.” Edward White saw that the group was about to reach the Small Rock Demons. Spotting a narrow rock pit nearby, his eyes flickered, and without a moment’s hesitation, he let out a miserable scream and rolled into the pit.
If he weren’t afraid of overacting, Edward White really wanted to shout, “I’m dead!”
Some people had already reached the Small Rock Demons, and everyone’s attention was on the battle, so no one noticed Edward White rolling aside and playing dead. At Baron Marlow’s command, the group engaged in a fierce fight with the Small Rock Demons.
The Small Rock Demons’ bodies were hard and their strength immense. Ordinary people without weapons were no match for them. Even with several people surrounding one Small Rock Demon, they couldn’t win. In no time, the cannon fodder were slaughtered, their bodies torn apart, while only two or three Small Rock Demons had been killed.
“Useless trash,” Baron Marlow cursed, instructing a few of his followers to prepare for battle.
Those people summoned their equipment, all of them with armor and weapons. Although their gear didn’t match, it was far better than what the cannon fodder had.
They charged at the Small Rock Demons and, as expected, were much stronger than the cannon fodder. While several cannon fodder couldn’t handle a single Small Rock Demon, each of these people managed to kill at least one in a short time.
Baron Marlow looked pleased, still watching from the side without making a move.
“Boom!” The mass slaughter of Small Rock Demons enraged the Giant Rock Demon, who stood up and charged at the group. Its massive size made the entire valley shake with every step.
“Ah!” A huge fist came crashing down. Someone tried to block it with a shield, but both man and shield were smashed to pieces, blood splattering everywhere.
“Damn it.” Baron Marlow was heartbroken. He didn’t care about the death of his follower, but the equipment on that follower had been hard-won, and seeing it destroyed pained him deeply.
No longer just watching, Baron Marlow summoned his own equipment: armor shining like gold, flaming bracers, and a pure white two-handed greatsword. Even his boots were a piece of black metal equipment.
“Kill!” Baron Marlow leapt into the air, raising his two-handed greatsword high and slashing down, instantly cleaving a Small Rock Demon in two.
Such strength made Edward White, who was playing dead nearby, extremely envious.
“You all deal with those Small Rock Demons. I’ll handle the Giant Rock Demon.” Baron Marlow charged at the Giant Rock Demon, his two-handed greatsword slashing rapidly, hacking off chunks of rock from the demon’s body.
With Baron Marlow keeping the Giant Rock Demon occupied, the others quickly finished off the remaining Small Rock Demons. Soon, all the Small Rock Demons were dead, leaving behind many life markers, but no one paid them any attention as everyone rushed to help Baron Marlow.
