Edward White did not refuse directly this time. Participating in the martial arts tournament would bring him nothing but benefits: he could observe the martial skills of other barons to improve himself, and if he happened to win first place, he would receive personal instruction in martial arts and the art of longevity from Baron Dao Bo. No matter how he looked at it, there was no downside.
"Alright, I agree to join your team."
"Great! Come with me now. The rest of us are all living together at the moment, so we can study teamwork and tactics as a group." Stephen Brooks couldn't wait and pulled Edward White toward the Dao Lun Society.
"I still have some things to take care of. Just tell me where you all are staying, and I'll come find you first thing tomorrow morning," Edward White stopped and said.
"In that case, why don't you tell me where you're staying, and I'll come pick you up tomorrow morning," Stephen Brooks said a bit anxiously.
Edward White had no choice but to tell Stephen Brooks where he was living.
As they parted, Stephen Brooks reminded Edward White over and over to make sure he packed up all his things tonight, promising to come pick him up early in the morning.
After leaving, Edward White didn't go home. Instead, he walked straight onto the main street and entered a shop that sold weapons.
The Lingluo Sword definitely couldn't be used within Dao Lun City. That was the prized sword of the Dao Lun Earl's beloved daughter. Considering everything he had done to Sophie Lee, if the Dao Lun Earl found out, he would surely have Edward White torn to pieces, so the Lingluo Sword absolutely could not be revealed in public.
As for the pure white knight's two-handed greatsword, he was now a baron, just like the former Baron Marlow. Even if others discovered that the greatsword once belonged to Baron Marlow, there was nothing they could do to him. From now on, he could use it openly and without fear.
However, a greatsword was still not a saber, and it conflicted with the characteristics of the Pain Blade Technique. It also wasn't suitable for prolonged combat, so Edward White still planned to buy a real saber. The grade didn't matter; he just needed a blade he could use to perform the Pain Blade Technique in public.
This weapon shop, called "Knight," wasn't very large and was decorated in a somewhat retro knightly style. Inside, there were many handcrafted knight shields, suits of armor, and spears on display as decorations. These were all ordinary items, not real weapons, and served little purpose beyond decoration.
Edward White walked into the shop and was slightly surprised when he saw the shopkeeper.
It was a woman—or rather, a mature woman. In the world of Light and Darkness Martial Arts, people's bodies and appearances stopped changing after the age of twenty, so you couldn't judge a woman's age by her looks. But this woman exuded an aura of mature femininity from head to toe.
She wore a black lace court dress, and through the intricate patterns, you could faintly see her fair, delicate skin. Even her lower body was clad in black stockings. In fact, not much of her body was exposed, but there was still something about her that made men want to lose control, to pounce on her and tear her clothes off right there.
"What an incredible figure—this woman is a true femme fatale." Court dresses were usually very puffy, making it hard to discern a woman's real figure, but even under such clothing, Edward White could instantly see her alluring curves, not just the chest and waist accentuated by the dress.
In fact, up to this point, Edward White still hadn't seen the woman's face; her hat and the draping black veil concealed her features.
"What would you like to buy, sir?" The woman's voice wasn't exactly sweet, nor was it husky or magnetic, but when it reached one's ears, it made your heart itch, as if you wanted to grab it but couldn't.
"I want to buy a saber." Edward White was a normal man. Although the woman's body exuded a strong sense of allure, since he hadn't seen her true face, his reaction remained restrained, so he didn't feel much interest in her.
"Are you looking for an ordinary weapon or a baron-grade weapon?" the woman asked again.
"How much is an ordinary weapon? And how much is a baron-grade weapon?" Edward White asked in return.
"Ordinary sabers range from one thousand to ten thousand units, while baron-grade sabers cost anywhere from one to ten years of life units," the woman replied crisply, clearly very experienced.
Edward White had long known that weapons were expensive and was mentally prepared, but he was still shocked by the price of baron-grade weapons.
Thinking about it, it made sense. When he was at the Undying Altar, he killed so many mutated Headhunter Ghosts with baron-level strength, yet never got a single Headhunter Axe. In the end, it was only the Skull-Splitting Ghost that dropped a Skull-Splitting Axe, which showed just how rare and precious weapons were.
"If only that Skull-Splitting Axe hadn't been swallowed by the Sword Casket—who knows how many life units it could have sold for!" Edward White wished he could tear the Sword Casket apart right now and dig out the Skull-Splitting Axe to sell.
Chapter 10: The Viscountess
"Let me see the ordinary weapons," Edward White gave up on buying a baron-grade weapon and decided to just get an ordinary saber for appearances' sake. When he went out to hunt the undead for real, he would still use the Lingluo Sword and the pure white knight's two-handed greatsword.
"You're a baron—why not take a look at the baron-grade weapons?" The woman didn't fetch any weapons, but instead said something that made Edward White's scalp tingle.
