Chapter 4

This is basically a force that can’t even be called a sect.

“Right.”

Emma Sullivan nodded. At this point, she already had a rough idea of William King’s background.

He was originally a martial arts enthusiast who, by chance, was taught by a wandering ancient martial artist. In his early twenties, he made a name for himself in the martial arts world, but after realizing his own limitations, he withdrew from the ancient martial arts community.

Such martial artists may have once roamed the martial world, but as a comfortable life wore down their temperament, they could no longer be called true martial artists. No wonder the Martial Arts Association never kept a record of him. If it weren’t for the coming chaos of the Six-Year Turmoil, with the martial arts world about to be plunged into bloodshed, and the Martial Arts Association needing to do everything possible to maintain order in the ordinary world and restrict the ancient martial artists from causing trouble, they probably wouldn’t bother to spend any effort on a drifter who had already left the martial arts world.

As Emma Sullivan thought about this, she continued to ask about William King’s basic situation while taking notes. In just a short while, she had filled in all the key points on several sheets of A4 paper. Finally, she reiterated, “Since you no longer intend to be active in the martial arts world, if you have any conflicts with others in the future, please call the police and seek help through legal channels. Do not act according to the rules of the martial arts world anymore. Otherwise, once you get entangled in those rules, life and death will no longer be protected by ordinary law.”

“I understand.”

William King nodded.

“Alright, let’s leave it at that for now. If there’s nothing urgent during this period, Mr. William King, please try to go out as little as possible. If any old friends from the martial arts world invite you, try to decline.”

“Try to go out as little as possible if there’s nothing urgent…”

Hearing Emma Sullivan’s words, William King seemed to think of something: “The Battle of the Galaxy is about to begin?”

“What Battle of the Galaxy?”

Although William King spoke softly, Emma Sullivan herself was a second-tier martial artist with keen hearing, so she heard him clearly and couldn’t help but ask.

“It’s nothing. I’ll be careful.”

William King replied.

“But I clearly heard you say ‘Battle of the Galaxy’.”

Lily muttered. Seeing that William King didn’t seem willing to answer, she didn’t press further. After all, their job was just to register those martial artists outside the Martial Arts Association; they had no authority to force them to obey orders.

Emma Sullivan made a mental note of those words. Just as she was about to turn and leave, she asked again, “By the way, Mr. William King, may I ask what level you are as a martial artist now?”

This question once again drew the attention of all four people in the room.

Even Claire Carter, who thought she had figured out William King’s background, was no exception.

“What level? I haven’t fought anyone in almost ten years. I don’t even know what level I am now. I’ve probably already returned all my martial arts to my half-baked master.”

William King himself seemed unable to explain.

Emma Sullivan took this question quite seriously: “A martial artist should have at least a rough sense of their own level. Mr. William King, please give us an accurate answer.”

“An accurate answer…”

William King glanced at Emma Sullivan and was silent for a moment. “About fifth or sixth tier, I guess.”

“Pfft!”

As soon as William King finished speaking, Claire Carter was the first to burst out laughing. If she had been drinking water, she probably would have spat it all over William King’s head.

“Fifth or sixth tier, haha, about fifth or sixth tier, haha, that’s killing me.”

Claire Bailey didn’t laugh, but she looked like she was struggling to hold it in.

As for Lily, she just curled her lips.

About fifth or sixth tier!?

The grandmaster-level figures she mentioned earlier—Li Yunsheng, master of both fist and sword, and Zhao Yunxi, the Dazzling Sword—were only fifth-tier martial artists.

In the ancient martial arts world, first tier was just an apprentice, second tier qualified as a martial artist, third tier was considered a skilled hand, fourth tier could be called a master, and fifth tier was already a grandmaster of the highest order.

Emma Sullivan rolled her eyes at William King: “Mr. William King, please answer this question seriously and give me an accurate answer.”

“I already said, I haven’t moved in so long, I really don’t know what tier I am now. If you don’t believe me, I can grit my teeth and spar with you for a couple of rounds, but… you’d better call an ambulance first.”

Lily was directly amused by William King’s words. Call an ambulance? Afraid she’d get beaten up badly? She waved her hand, “Alright, alright, Feiyun, don’t make things difficult for Mr. William King anymore. Can’t you guess something from William King’s living situation? Life is hard enough as it is.”

Living situation…

Emma Sullivan couldn’t help but recall the scene where Claire Carter kept claiming her brother-in-law was Tang Zhongting. Looking at his gentle appearance, she figured he probably didn’t have much status in this household and was just using this ambiguous answer to save face. So she didn’t press further: “Alright then, Mr. William King, thank you for your cooperation. We’ll take our leave.”

“I’ll see you out.”

William King stood up.

“No need, please stay.”

“You go on being your martial arts grandmaster. Miss Shen, I’ll see you out.”

Claire Carter glanced at William King and then turned to Emma Sullivan.

“Thank you.”
