Chapter 3

A real experiment—was this strange dream of mine actually real? Did that world truly exist?

Was this really just a dream?

Did I really spend so many years in that world as a wandering con artist... uh, fortune-teller?

“Money... you are the eternal regret in my heart...”

Three hundred a month really isn’t enough.

……

Noon.

The aroma of food filled the living room.

With a creak at the door, a voice said, “Smells great! Looks like I’ll have to have a drink today.” Then, a man in his thirties walked in.

He was tall and slender, with sword-like eyebrows and starry eyes, handsome and elegant, his black hair as dark as ink; his well-fitted clothes made his figure appear even more distinguished; his black, shiny leather shoes and calm, gentle face completed the look.

This was Brian Carter’s father, Robert Carter.

He called himself Robert Carter, the one whose path stretches long beneath his feet.

“Is Nian not back yet?”

Robert Carter asked out of routine, though he knew well that his daughter always came home about fifteen minutes later than he did. Everyone in the family had a keen sense of time, and there was rarely any mistake. If she missed this window, she basically wouldn’t come home for dinner.

As he spoke, he sat down at the dining table, smiling. “Emily, that thing, I found it for Nian.”

Emily Wright came out, wiping her hands, her face lighting up in surprise. “You found it? How much did it cost?”

“Just a little money,” Robert Carter smiled. “Don’t worry about it.”

Brian Carter’s eyes instantly lit up like light bulbs: Money?!

“Oh.” Emily Wright smiled gently. “Alright, when Nian gets back, she’ll be so happy.”

In the kitchen, Brian Carter was ladling soup, listening intently, his lips pouting: Another gift for my sister, huh? I wonder if there’s anything for me... If there is, I’ll just exchange it for cash...

“What’s making everyone so happy?” A gentle voice quietly drifted in, accompanied by a soft sound at the door, as if someone was changing into slippers; then, a young girl in a blue long dress walked in.

Her slender figure was about 1.7 meters tall, a bit thin, but perfectly proportioned; her long hair was smooth, her face serene, and her beautiful eyes were like two small, crystal-clear pools... She was like a pure lotus blooming in clear water, untouched by the dust of the world.

Anyone who saw this girl would immediately feel: This girl is so clean, so pure! And then, suddenly, be struck by her beauty.

This girl seemed to possess a natural aura that made anyone who saw her feel calm and peaceful inside. In the face of such natural beauty, no one could even think of disrespect—only pure admiration!

This was Brian Carter’s older sister, Grace Carter.

“Daddy, you’re home early.” Grace Carter’s gentle face warmed as she looked around and asked, “Is the puppy not home?”

From the kitchen, Brian Carter roared angrily, “Don’t call me puppy!”

Grace Carter giggled, and with that laugh, she seemed even more lively and charming, rolling her eyes and saying, “What can you do if I call you puppy? Doggie! Little puppy! Haha...”

Brian Carter rushed out holding a rice ladle, but Emily Wright grabbed his ear in one swift motion: “Are you rebelling?!”

“Ow, ow, ow...” Brian Carter twisted his head, his face contorted. “Mom! You’re being way too obvious with your favoritism! I’m your son too! Your real son!”

Brian Carter could never figure out his mother’s ear-twisting technique.

How did she master it? No matter how fast he was, as long as he passed by her, if she wanted to twist his ear, she never missed!

One reach, and she’d grab it and even twist it around!

“Favoritism? Hmph, you must have misunderstood what favoritism means.”

Emily Wright snorted coldly.

Isn’t this favoritism? Brian Carter tilted his head, watching as Grace Carter made an ear-twisting gesture at him, then stuck out her tongue...

This kind of girlish behavior only happened at home; outsiders would never see it.

……

During dinner, Brian Carter finally understood what real favoritism was.

“Nian,” Robert Carter said calmly as he ate, “how confident are you about breaking through the Yin-Yang Realm this time?”

Grace Carter instinctively straightened up and replied respectfully, “There shouldn’t be any problem. I’ll break through in the Martial Academy’s star power chamber, where the energy is abundant. I’ve prepared plenty of spiritual medicine, and I have a few star beast inner cores as backup. Also, the place is heavily guarded, the instructors are responsible, and my master and a few others will be protecting me. Nothing will go wrong.”

Robert Carter nodded. “As long as you’re confident.” As he spoke, he took out a small, exquisite box from his pocket, placed it on the table, and pushed it forward. “Take it. If you can use it, don’t hesitate. If not, just keep it for yourself.”

Grace Carter nodded, took the box, opened it, and suddenly gasped, covering her mouth, her eyes filled with shock and disbelief: “Life Origin Pill?! Father, this... this...”

She was so shocked she couldn’t even speak.
