As for brushing teeth, that’s out of the question—there isn’t even such a thing as a toothbrush here, and even in the memories of this body’s previous owner, brushing teeth was never a thing!
Perhaps in this world, the upper nobility might have something like toothbrushes and toothpaste, but for now, William Carter doesn’t need to think about it.
William Carter secretly made up his mind: in the future, I’m definitely going to invent the toothbrush. As for what material to use for the bristles, William Carter hasn’t decided yet, but for the handle, he’s already made up his mind—nothing else will do, only the finest agarwood!
Hmph! Hmph! I’ll humph again!
If I’m in a good mood, I can brush once and toss one away—no, brush once and toss two away!
With the little Lolis still clinging to him, William Carter made his way to the training ground on the west side of the courtyard.
Just as he expected, a few of the kids practicing there were indeed not very focused.
William Carter waved them over.
Those little ones had been watching the courtyard gate this whole time, and when they saw William Carter coming, their eyes lit up. The moment he waved, they all came running over in a flurry.
“Big brother William Carter, are you going to start teaching now?” a little boy named Abel Adams asked.
“Of course not. I saw you all weren’t practicing seriously. Go on, start over from the beginning and practice properly! If you’re still not focused, then I won’t teach tonight,” William Carter threatened, putting on a stern face.
“Huh? We have to wait until tonight?”
Hearing this, everyone protested. Ivy White and another Loli grabbed William Carter’s arms from either side and shook them back and forth.
“All right, all right, I surrender.” William Carter was getting a bit dizzy from all the shaking, and more importantly, a few of the adults over there were watching with sly grins. William Carter said to the boys who were supposed to be doing morning exercises, “As long as you go back and practice seriously, after breakfast I’ll start teaching.”
That did the trick.
The boys immediately ran back and started practicing from the beginning, each more focused than the last, not a single one sneaking glances his way.
William Carter nodded in satisfaction, then, surrounded by a group of little Lolis, went to sit on a bench by the training ground, watching everyone practice while waiting to bask in the sun.
“Brother William Carter, why don’t you whisper and tell us a little bit first?” Little Ivy White leaned in and whispered in William Carter’s ear.
“Haha, my shoulders are a bit sore right now, I don’t feel like talking.”
Immediately, William Carter’s shoulders received a gentle tapping and massage from two little Lolis.
How pitiful! I used to be a fine young man, and now not only am I stuck in the body of a thirteen-year-old boy, I’ve even fallen to the point of coaxing little Lolis.
William Carter enjoyed himself while half-heartedly feeling guilty.
Before the sun had even risen, Captain Owen Smith had already finished his training and come over to William Carter.
Before William Carter could even greet him, this man—who always gave William Carter a steady and imposing impression—rubbed his hands together and said something that nearly made William Carter drop his jaw: “William Carter, so what happened to Sun Wukong after that?”
While William Carter was still stunned, another member of the group, a rather familiar guy called Slim Adams, also finished his morning practice and dashed over, pushing aside the two little Lolis and slinging his arm around William Carter’s shoulders. “Hey, little William Carter, hurry up and tell me—what happened to the Handsome Monkey King? Did he learn any skills?”
Staring speechlessly at the two of them, William Carter was at a loss for words.
After breakfast that day, William Carter was completely surrounded by people of all ages.
Good grief! All twenty or so strong men in the group who weren’t out on a mission were there, not a single one missing! Of course, they could only sit on the outer edge; the ones closest to William Carter were still the little ones, and their numbers had doubled since last night.
And Auntie Lillian White and the others, clearly just as curious, had also followed over, intentionally or not.
The result was that it seemed like everyone in the whole courtyard had gathered here.
—Who says information spreads slowly in a society without the internet?
With so many people around him, William Carter had no way to refuse, so after briefly recapping what he’d told yesterday, he began telling the second chapter of “Journey to the West.”
Chapter 10: The Irresistible Charm of the Handsome Monkey King
The second chapter of “Journey to the West” is titled “Comprehending the Subtle Truths of Bodhi, Severing Demons and Returning to the True Spirit.”
The content of “Journey to the West” is tight and compact, nothing like some of those serialized novels on the internet in William Carter’s previous life, which dragged on endlessly like a smelly, long footcloth. In this book, each chapter is packed with endless changes and is incredibly rich in information.
So, after the Handsome Monkey King received his name and rejoiced, he spent his days with his fellow disciples, learning manners, discussing scriptures, and debating philosophy. Day after day passed, until finally the Patriarch ascended the platform and began to expound the Great Dao.
At this point, everyone was overjoyed, and the one called Slim Adams in the group was so happy he was scratching his head and ears.
Seeing this, William Carter held back his laughter and continued—
Sun Wukong, listening from the side, was so delighted he scratched his head and ears, his brows dancing and eyes smiling, unable to help waving his hands and stamping his feet. Suddenly, the Patriarch saw him and called out, “Why are you in class jumping and dancing about instead of listening to my lecture?” Wukong replied, “Master, I am sincerely listening. When I hear your wondrous words, I am so overjoyed that I can’t help but leap for joy. Please forgive me, Master!”
